Did you catch Covid from your kids? If so how quickly?

My DD1 tested positive on an LFT on Tuesday (since confirmed on PCR). No real symptoms - only tested because of her friend testing positive. Now she’s pretty snotty with a bit of a cough but nothing major.

The rest of us in the family (DH, DD2 and me) are all negative so far. How likely is it that we will be spared?

I wouldn’t normally be so worried but DH has been very ill recently (not Covid related) and I worry that him catching Covid would be dangerous.

We’ve been keeping him and DD2 as separate as possible, but we are all in the same house. We’ve also been wearing masks and washing hands lots etc.

I’m hoping that since she’s likely to get less and less contagious we might be ok but any others have experience of this?

My daughter had a runny nose on a Thursday, was advised by school to test on the Friday. Had her positive result Sunday afternoon. By Monday I’d tested and in the afternoon I had muscle cramps which turned into a positive result on the Tuesday. It seems pretty fast moving but I’m sure she was contagious before the runny nose so it was developing in me before I even suspected her to have it. Good luck op x

SophieHatterPendragon · 03/12/2021 17:10

Yep! About 4 days after his symptoms appeared mine did

TenoringBehind · 03/12/2021 17:10

No

Vallmo47 · 03/12/2021 17:10

Just wanted to add that her dad and brother didn’t catch it full stop, even though we shared towels and everything before knowing. Some people are just more susceptibility to this virus. Fingers crossed you’re all lucky, it’s very possible.

One child tested positive in October, me and the other child didn’t catch it, child 2 had it 2 weeks ago and I caught it about 4 days after her. She was literally coughing right in my face though…. Child one had no symptoms though so don’t know if that makes a difference 🤷🏼‍♀️

Whatdoyawannado · 03/12/2021 17:13

DS1 had a positive on Saturday, DS2 positive on Tuesday (3 days later) and suspect DH is about to get a positive, so that'll be 6 days after DS1 and 3 days after DS2. I'm still negative as yet......

Whatdoyawannado · 03/12/2021 17:15

Oh, and we haven't isolated from each other although the DC do have separate bedrooms. I'll be sleeping away from DH now he has it but that's more because I don't want him to keep me awake all night rather than to not catch it.

PiratePetespajamas · 03/12/2021 17:20

No: DC aged 7 had it, no one else in the house (2 adults, one younger sibling) caught it. We didn’t socially distance - impossible and unkind with that age. DH and I washed hands a lot but kids are kids and were as revolting and in each other’s faces as usual.

Hereticetta · 03/12/2021 17:21

Yes, over the summer.
Both DCs had positive LFTs on the Saturday. I tested daily from that day Abs got a positive on Tuesday.

TheSnowyOwl · 03/12/2021 17:30

None of us caught it including two unvaccinated siblings. Hopefully you won’t either.

Our dd tested negative on a lateral flow on the Tuesday morning - but positive in the evening. I had had close contact with her in the car before she tested positive but we kept apart afterwards.

I started with a tiny little tickle in my throat on the Thursday afternoon. A few sneezes on the Friday although negative. And then I tested positive on the lateral flow on the Saturday. Dh remained negative throughout.

So based on my experience tomorrow is the key day.

steppemum · 03/12/2021 17:42

I did , a few days after dd.
But dd1 and dh nover got it.

dd1 was at home with ds when he got it in the summer, as soon as he had symptoms they isolated from each other, but had mixed until then. She didn't get it from him either.

Donatella · 03/12/2021 17:42

My 10yr old had it, very mild symptoms, we didn't isolate her and no one else caught it.

dollywoodlooksgood · 03/12/2021 17:47

DD tested positive 8 days ago, no real symptoms. So far we have tested negative on both lateral flow and PCR (me and DH).

Blabla81 · 03/12/2021 17:47

Dd10 tested positive 2 Sunday’s ago (asymptotic) - I started feeling dodgy the following Friday then tested positive the following Sunday, so exactly a week later. Husband and dd5 negative the whole time but I’m not holding my breath.

4yroldhelp · 03/12/2021 17:59

Yes we have COVID now, my DS got symptoms last Friday night, got his positive result Sunday morning, by Sunday eve DH and I were ill and tested positive Monday.

ComDummings · 03/12/2021 18:00

About a week after they started with symptoms

Vanillacupcake33 · 03/12/2021 18:04

My dd had it and I was with her constantly, even slept in her room with her when she had an horrendous cough abd didn't sleep well and I remained negative so did dp.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 03/12/2021 18:05

Toddler picked it up from an appointment at the health centre and it went through the whole household, this was back in January. All positive PCR.

Choccyaddict4eva · 03/12/2021 18:06

I caught it 12 days after my children tested positive

joysmoy66 · 03/12/2021 18:08

Yes within 3/4 days

greenweepingwillow · 03/12/2021 18:30

out of my 6 dc, 4 have had covid, one of them has had it twice. I have never had it (pcr tests and also 3 antibody tests would confirm this) We didnt even particularly isolate positive dc when they had it, and 3 occassions were pre vaccinations.

Porcupineintherough · 03/12/2021 18:53

5 days

NCasrecognisedanAIBU · 03/12/2021 19:10

No. Both my kids had it (both primary age). Neither me or DH (both double jabbed) had it. We all did day 0 PCRs and DH and I did daily LFTs and another PCR on day 8 to release. All negative.

Forgetaboutme · 03/12/2021 19:15

I'm in a similar boat here, ds has tested positive so I guess it felt inevitable. We haven't isolated him because too young in my opinion. We are on day 5 and still negative. Starting to think we've dodged it.
