I'm fed up of "in a pandemic?"

As the title says. I'm fed up of, "but we're in a pandemic Confused?" every time I want to do an activity someone else doesn't consider essential or safe.

In the beginning I got it. I still get it if my friends want to impose social limits on their social life. Want to meet in the garden? Fine with me, but don't be surprised if I don't stay long in the cold.

I am very flexible in considering my friends own wants and will make adjustments if I want to socialise with them.

However, I don't appreciate the comments on my own activities. Apparently I shouldn't travel, attend work's Christmas party or meet people indoors as coronavirus is still around. Because we're in a pandemic. Again.

Everything I do is legal. Coronavirus isn't going anywhere. If I'm double vaxxed, get the booster and wear a mask, then I can happily say I've done my part and am resuming normal life, no matter what. Even then, I am more conservative with precautions than the millions who won't get vaxxed or masked.

Does anyone else feel like this? Like they've done their part, got vaxxed and that once you've done that, your duty is done because coronavirus isn't going anhwhere? Or do you feel happy restricting your life for the next year, five years, ten years, inevitably?

I'm not trying to be goady. I just feel down again and Omicron is making me imagine a society in which our healthcare system gets overloaded again but I become so selfish and fatigued and think "eff it." I genuinely don't think I'd comply with another lockdown and that's not me being facetious, it's just the point I'm at mentally and realistically.

It's a GLOBAL pandemic donchaknow

Hotchocolateandcake · 03/12/2021 13:10

Gosh I agree op.

All that slowing the spread does is prevent the hospitals from filling up all in one go. But it delays the inevitable.

Ormally · 03/12/2021 16:10

Had covid yet, OP?
Not sure whether you will be just as indignant about that, as you've done everything right and legally, and yet it's still struck, because it's a novel virus that has affected every continent on the planet and hasn't had the courtesy to be mild and predictable and a bit of an inconvenience for each of the millions it's infected so far. Or whether you'll just feel like shit and wish for it to get out of your system again, like me and anyone else whose turn has come up in the last few weeks. I'll be incredibly relieved when this has gone, because watching the fight in those I live with is maybe even more painful than also having to sit it out myself.

Well yes I’m fed up of being in a pandemic and the constant knee jerk reaction of this government.

I want to hear some long term strategic planning about tackling this. It can’t just be vaccines, we need a more robust and properly funded NHS and adult social care system so that it can handle further surges.

Sadly I see none of that, I hope it’s coming but don’t hold out hope.

And we’ll keep this going far longer than necessary.

I honestly can't believe people are still coming out with stuff like this
