£200 for first time and can double up to £6,400!

Interesante I have not seeing a police man in London for ages.

Sleepyblueocean · 30/11/2021 10:03

"No exemptions"

Portugal has been mentioned before. There are exemptions. It doesn't take much imagination to think of people who could not keep one on.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2021 10:04

I live in a small market town and I've never seen a police person in any shop, ever. Who is going to pin the miscreant to the floor while 999 is dialled?

User5489205347 · 30/11/2021 10:15

It's only half that amount if paid in 14 days, so from £100

Nchangsd · 30/11/2021 10:19

Nice. They are going be rich in no time cause no fuckers will wear a mask, I hope they enforce it

Madmog · 30/11/2021 10:23

I've just been to Tesco's. Police car visible outside and two policemen walking down an aisle together. Could well be on a break, but makes me wonder why!

Sleepyblueocean · 30/11/2021 11:28

I think them being on a break, shoplifting or antisocial behaviour are far more likely than looking for people to fine.

leafygarden42 · 30/11/2021 12:44

@Madmog - were they in the doughnut aisle?? Xmas Wink

@Sparklingbrook

We were discussing this on another thread. On paper it sounds great in practice completely unworkable. Unless you have police in every shop.
It works in other countries as the poster in Portugal says. No mask. No entry.

There are exemptions in all countries where mask wearing is mandatory It's just that you don't get to self-identify. You need a doctor's certificate.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/11/2021 12:53

They had this previously but how can it be enforced?

changingstages · 30/11/2021 12:58

@Grumpasaurus

It's ridiculous how few people in England wear masks.

I live in Portugal. You very literally cannot cross the threshold of any premise without a mask. Or any form of transport. Many wear them outside. No exemptions. All seem able and willing to comply!

What is WRONG with England?

It's so depressing. Was in Paris a few days ago and mask wearing was incredibly high. If you forgot to put it in people - politely - reminded you.

@Grumpasaurus what do you do about hearing impaired people over there? Are certain people just not able to participate in society?(!)
Skinnytailedsquirrel · 30/11/2021 13:46

@grumpasaurus I assume people in Portugal have manners and respect for their fellow countrymen.

Amazingblossoms · 30/11/2021 13:54

Or autistic people or traumatised people?

Do they have to wear a bell advertising their disabilities and make them an even easier target for the bullies like those wewho torment my son?

All the self.righteous pricks who say "just wear a mask it's not that hard" and "wear a lanyard so we'll know" have no fing idea what life is like for some people.

Same as it ever was.

DillDanding · 30/11/2021 14:01

I just popped into a M&S food shop. Mask wearing was no different to normal. It was about 40% wearing them.

I was quite surprised.

DriftingBlue · 30/11/2021 14:13

The bar for exemptions is much higher in most countries. For example, my claustrophobia and panic attacks are definitely not worthy of an exemption. I never expected it should be. Some days I still have to make a run for a shop door so I can rip my mask off. It is what it is.

Exemptions also don’t always mean admittance. It might mean an adaptation to bring a service to a person who can’t wear a mask in a different way.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2021 14:17

I am going out shortly. I'm having my eyebrows and lashes done. I'll have my mask on and the lady doing them wears a visor and a mask. Also she'll take my temperature outside before I go in, and I've done a LFT.

But then I'll be going to the supermarket. Could be interesting.

There was a very significant increase in mask wearing both on the train and tubes I was on this morning. Last week it was probably 50-60% (less on trains than tube) but this morning it was almost everyone on the train and about 80% in my tube carriage.

StopGo · 30/11/2021 14:45

Just been to Sainsbury's. Very few people wearing masks including staff. An awful lot of people with chin slings on

MrsLarry · 30/11/2021 14:49

Maybe you should change your your misleading thread title. The article refers to the London Underground.

OnceUponAWhine · 30/11/2021 15:01

Exactly this. Also, so many people claiming they can tell when people don’t really have an exemption🙄 You have no idea/judging on the way someone looks. It’s utterly depressing to hear the narrative of ‘you’re selfish if you don’t wear a mask’
I believe it’s also selfish to enjoy all your health privileges- including mental health state- without thinking of others who aren’t so lucky.

TomelettewithGreggs · 30/11/2021 15:05

At least 70% of people on the Tube are not wearing masks. They can't all be exempt. I am going to assume they are taking the piss. I don't think this is a wild assumption.

OnceUponAWhine · 30/11/2021 15:12

Taking the piss? See that’s what I mean, why are they deemed as taking the piss when it wasn’t even mandatory yesterday, yet it is today? Anyone popping a mask on today is just obeying laws, not necessarily thinking of others🤷‍♀️ Lucky them that they can easily pop a mask on without any sort of associated trauma.
