Travelling to Spain with unvaccinated teens

Stircrazyschoolmum · 29/11/2021 06:33

As covered by another thread, Spain has changed its entry requirements to double vaccinated tourists only. This impacts my son who has been unable to get a single jab yet due to having COVID.

Up to now the answer was a PCR test, but that seems to not be an option. I’m going to talk to the airline and travel company later, but wondered if anyone else was in a similar situation and had done so already?

What happens if you are medically exempt from getting vaccinated for example? Could this be argued in this situation?

Teens can be double jabbed now , 3 month minimum gap. Finally .

Stircrazyschoolmum · 02/12/2021 15:24

Good news that teens can finally have 2 jabs but doesn't help us with Christmas plans unfortunately. Neither will it help anyone with an 11 year old turning 12 before next years summer holidays.

Popped back to give a quick update having spoken to Easyjet yesterday (it took 7 calls where the line dropped out after 5-9 mins waiting... grrr!)

Basically, they have said they won't refund us as they are waiting a policy update on 15 Dec (wtf!?!) This is despite their travel restriction pledge saying they would. For the reasons stated above we are reluctant to rebook the flights for the spring as we are unlikely to travel due to DD then.. so I guess we wait it out.. I can't see how things are going to improve though?!

Whilst understandable that Spain is looking after its own population as a priority, its bloody infuriating that Boris keeps changing his policies and hasn't been consistent with the rest of Europe!

Also watching with interest as we were booked to go but one teen has had one jab and our second teen had COVID in October and can’t have first jab until January.

@Stircrazyschoolmum

We were due to travel to Spain just before Christmas and airline cancelled with full refund. Single vaccinated teen not acceptable to Spain even with a negative test... only want those with 2 vaccinations.

It's a no go to Spain for you/me and others at present.

mrsbob · 03/12/2021 15:36

My teen is double jabbed but the NHS aren't issuing vaccinations certificates to under 16 year olds so we've had to cancel our holiday to Spain anyway! Absolutely ridiculous situation!

Hi,

I have a 15 year old who has received one dose of vaccination, I found below information on Canary Island travel and it clearly says we may have ONE of the following along with control form:

1.2. IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING FROM RISK COUNTRIES* WITHIN THE EU AND SCHENGEN

Contenido

  • Risk countries are those on this list.

Control form. We recommend completing the form digitally, including all of the necessary documents in order to speed up airport checks (fast control).

and one of the following requirements for persons over the age of 12:

a) Certificate of full vaccination against COVID-19.

b) Negative Diagnostic Test of Active COVID-19 Infection. Antigen tests taken a maximum of 48 hours before arrival in Spain and NAAT tests (PCR, TMA, LAMP) taken a maximum of 72 hours before arrival in Spain will be accepted.

c) Certificate of recovery confirming that the holder has recovered from COVID-19, issued at least 11 days after the first positive NAAT test (PCR, TMA, LAMP). The certificate is valid for 180 days.

By way of an exception, and randomly, certain passengers may be required to perform a diagnostic test of active COVID-19 infection in the forty-eight hours following their arrival, the result of which they must communicate to the Border Health Service by the means indicated for this purpose.

May I add that we have tickets to travel on the 19th of December to Canary Islands.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 09/12/2021 10:26

Best of luck @Rumrak I certainly hope you get to go. We have had a full refund from our travel company and credit note from EasyJet. Both agree we can’t go. I think some websites are out of date as it only changed on 1 Dec. We used the UK gov one. Quite relieved given the Omicrom variant to be honest as isolating on our return would have been a pain.

Thanks Stircrazyschoolmum, but I am in 2 minds as do not want to take the risk so most likely opting out soon. We do not have to cancel till 16th Dec. Also both my 15 year old, myself and my husband had Covid in Nov but considering the problems it just does not seem worth taking the hassle for 3 nights.

FromTheAshes · 09/12/2021 12:51

Are you in the UK, @Rumrak? The UK is no longer part of the EU or within the Schengen Zone so the information in your list above wouldn't apply, but would if you're in another European country. My partner has had to cancel taking his 15yo to the Canaries for Christmas as she's not double vaccinated.

Rumrak · 13/12/2021 07:46

I am in the UK and yes we are not going it seems. All parents with 12 to 15 year olds are in the same situation.
