Spain effectively banning UK children from entering country

Anyone planning a Christmas holiday to Spain or the Canaries? You might have to rethink your plans. News broke overnight that Spain is only allowing fully vaccinated – ie, double jabbed – travellers from the UK and NI to enter the country, meaning anyone over 12 won't get in because they're only allowed one jab as things stand.

@Sombra

What happens if a child has had both jabs. They haven't got access to the Covid passport app so does that mean they still can't travel?
I am pretty certain you can access these records through your GP. They will be part of the medical notes, not just isolated to an app.

Child free resorts?! I'm in! Grin (Joke)

We’ve been hit by this as travelling with a large family party with one 12 year old only single jabbed. Sad

Loudestcat14 · 28/11/2021 10:52

Gensola Really sorry to hear that, it must be gutting for you all. Flowers

That will have to change. Can’t have kids that can’t visit family in Spain, surely? I can’t imagine this will last

Tal45 · 28/11/2021 10:53

They were saying on the BBC that a decision to double jab 12 - 16 year olds could come 'in weeks'. I expect it will, they weren't going to double jab 16 -18's, they weren't going to single jab 12 - 16's, now they're doing both those so I expect double jabbing 12 - 16's will be next seeing as everyone else is doing it.

lescompagnonsdeloue · 28/11/2021 10:58

@Bramshott

Travel with single jabbed teens is a nightmare - Germany already completely bans them, and Belgium & the Netherlands effectively do so by enforcing quarantine. France and Italy used to be easier but god knows now. Fingers crossed it will be sorted out by next summer, either by our teens being offered a second jab, or restrictions being relaxed for the unvaccinated/partially vaccinated.
France is going to be really hard too, the health pass is require everywhere and if you don't have one then you have to show a test that is less than 24 hours old, not 48 or 72. So if you are unvaccinated or not vaccinated enough, and come to France on holiday, you have to take a test every 24 hours to go to any restaurants or tourist attractions.
bumblefeline · 28/11/2021 10:58

I think they will probably 2nd jab this age group very soon. Sorry for those who have had their plans effected though.

Nationals will be exempt It s tourists not family
lescompagnonsdeloue · 28/11/2021 10:59

I don't see why people think this will be massive for the Spanish tourist industry. Families don't travel to Spain for Christmas that much do they?

DeliciousViolets · 28/11/2021 11:00

We are having to cancel our holiday to Spain at Christmas. Much needed especially for the 14yr old's mental health. Now he's the reason we can't go :-(

Gensola · 28/11/2021 11:03

@DeliciousViolets we are in exactly the same positon Sad

midsomermurderess · 28/11/2021 11:09

OP, you did not 'simply post for information' your post says 'effectively banning' and you are hoping for the inevitable froth.

Looks like my new year trip to Spain is off, single jabbed 12 year old. Interesting I recently had covid despite being triple vaccinated and 12 year who seemed to do the opposite of isolating from me avoided it.

Kennykenkencat · 28/11/2021 11:29

Whammyyammy

Flyonawalk
Presumably this will change when Spain analyse the devastating effect on their tourist industry

Doubtful as children don't tend to earn or spend a lot of money

But their parents do and they are t going to
Be going on a family holiday without their children

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 28/11/2021 11:32

If you can make a trip to Ireland teens can get a second vaccine there 3 weeks after their first. Just done this with ds2 and now he has an EU vaccine passport.
No need to be resident there. They will literally vaccinate anyone who wants it and needs it.

Fairylights25 · 28/11/2021 11:33

I think it is a good opportunity to holiday further afield, and explore the rest of the world.

So many children are recovering from covid and now have to wait for 12 weeks for any kind of vaccine even if they want to.

Poor decision given the dire state of the economy in Spain, as it is unlikely to make the slightest difference to infection rates and it just becomes another reason to holiday elsewhere.

Fairylights25 · 28/11/2021 11:35

lescompagnonsdeloue The canaries is a huge destination over the winter.

Many families go to the canaries is their current high season so no British will mean closing down hotels

@Mimi2021, You have ended up on the Corona Virus section with your post and you might prefer it to be in, say, Relationships?
If you click on the Report button by your post, you could ask MNHQ to move it for you?
Hope this helps.

CallmeHendricks · 28/11/2021 11:37

As others have said, Spain is not alone in this.
Some friends were planning on going to Canada to ski over New Year and visit family. One child is over 12, so that's that. They have had to change their plans.

LaMagdalena · 28/11/2021 11:42

"Nationals will be exempt
It s tourists not family"

Lots of British children have families in Spain.

I imagine the UK will start double vaccinating over 12s soon, it already seems to be an outlier.

speakout · 28/11/2021 11:42

I think anyone planning a trip abroad for fun right now is irresponsible.

Mimi2021 · 28/11/2021 11:42

@CallmeHendricks
Hey, yes I just realized this after posting it! Tried to delete it but there was no option so I’ve reported it. Thanks :)
