The exhaustion after covid is unreal :(

A week into covid and the temp/sweating/feeling ill has subsided but the exhaustion is crazy.

My house is an utter mess (have kids in isolation too)

Every morning I wake up in bed and think I don't feel ill today but by the time I've got down stairs and make something to eat/drink I need to sit on the couch for 20 mins to recover.

I did the dishwasher and kitchen yesterday and had to sit on the floor halfway through for a break.

How long does this last? I haven't even bought a single Christmas present yet. House is a tip. I'm panicking.

I'm about 18 days since I tested positive, and I would say that yesterday and today are the first days I've started to feel anything like normal, I have felt so fatigued. I hope you're feeling better soon.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/11/2021 13:41

I'm 14 days from testing. I feel a lot better than I did. But if I do much I need a rest after. The first day I was allowed out I pottered around a small supermarket and then had a 2 hour sleep to recover!

lunarlandscape · 21/11/2021 13:50

I'm so sorry you feel this way OP. Can you simplify Christmas this year. Bulk by generic gifts online for any adults you usually buy for. Order all DCs stuff online.

And order in ready meals for the next two weeks. You can all survive on shop bought lasagnes and curries and oven-baked fish and chips etc for a while.

Simplify Christmas too. Get as much as possible ready made including roasties, stuffing, pigs in blankets, mince pies, Christmas cake etc.

Greenhand · 21/11/2021 13:56

I am so sorry to hear this. Do buy as much for Christmas as you can online. Don’t panic but also don’t be afraid to ask friends to help you do some shopping etc.
Your body obviously wants the rest so I think that’s all you can do. Over doing it might set you back. It did for a friend of mine.

Beesneeze82 · 21/11/2021 13:57

I'm a month in and still fatigued. I'm off work still and just managing the basics of life by ensuring I take proper rests. Have a look at the long COVID support videos on YouTube.

itsgettingwierd · 21/11/2021 14:01

Sorry to say but mine lasted weeks.

I spent whole days lying on the sofa watching tv and sleeping through most of it.

Glinsk · 21/11/2021 16:44

3 weeks on I still had to lie down for a rest after a shower.
So much emphasis on Covid being a minor illness for most people so when you are actually feeling pretty ill it's a shock

Chaosandmadness · 21/11/2021 16:48

Day 21 for me. All I can do is get out of bed, go downstairs and lay on the sofa. At the end of the day I go back up to bed. I sleep constantly.

scochran · 21/11/2021 16:54

I got a little better everyday till I stopped noticing I felt ill/ tired and realised I was fine again. Maybe 4 weeks in total.
Just keep resting when you need to.

QueenofLouisiana · 21/11/2021 16:56

I’d say I felt better in week4, still not quite there though. I’m now 8 weeks after my positive test and yesterday was the first time I had a normal, busy Saturday. However, I’m lying on my bed now as I’m tired today.

Inforapenny65 · 21/11/2021 17:01

I had covid in August- am still struggling with fatigue and sweats...brain fog....unable to go back to work....it's horrible

HesterShaw1 · 21/11/2021 17:04

Don't worry, firstly. Secondly you might struggle if you push yourself to do Christmas "properly" so just relax about it. The world won't fall in.

I started feeling suddenly a lot better after four to five weeks. But it did need lots of R&R.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/11/2021 21:45

Yes, I agree with that. I'm over 2 weeks in and 'fine' now, but even that first 10 days were a proper shock. 'Mild illness' my arse. If someone felt like that with flu we'd be talking about needing proper time to recover, not back to work on day 11 as if nothing has happened.

murcimari · 21/11/2021 22:10

start taking vit B3 (Niacin), the non flush variety and zinc - you'll soon feel normal again.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 21/11/2021 22:23

About 3 weeks for me. At its worse I could only stay awake for a few hours before needing to sleep

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 21/11/2021 22:25

Although I've just had the cold that's going around and felt much more ill with that. With coving it was just the tiredness

Soupsetforson · 21/11/2021 22:31

Oh wow these posts are quite scary! I’m on day 3/4 ish I think and feel fine apart from a slightly runny nose and a headache.
I feel a bit sluggish I guess but I think that’s more due to lack of exercise.
Do I have worse to look forward to?

jenkel · 22/11/2021 00:00

17 days for me, can now function pretty normally, but went christmas shopping yesterday and was exhausted in the evening. Also still got a weird pressure thing going on in my head.

Dee1975 · 22/11/2021 07:34

Took me around 6 weeks for energy to be back to normal. I got a cleaner in to do a one off clean as I just couldn’t manage the extra!

TreeLawney · 22/11/2021 10:23

I didn’t feel that bad in the 10 day isolation (as in, felt ill but able to get up, dressed every day, homeschool the dcs, keep up with my work) but afterwards really noticed that if I did anything particularly active (& not even as much as my usual activity levels), I was absolutely exhausted afterwards. Come 5pm every day I was so tired I physically hurt. That was probably the hardest part.

But 5 weeks post positive test I am finally feeling back to normal. Last week I suddenly woke up and just felt back to normal energy levels, thank goodness.

Hope you feel better soon

Crazyworld1979 · 22/11/2021 10:41

Hi op
So glad I came across this post but not glad your still feeling ruff
Im on day 6 of covid and wow the exhaustion is sonething else still feeling terrible with chest pain and a heavy full head but I've never been so tired I brush my teeth and have to lie back down I can't cope with this 😢
Hope your better soon

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 22/11/2021 10:49

Took me just under three months.

Was horrendous. The house was a tip, I was sleeping all of the time and I was dragging myself through my shifts at work by my fingernails.

I felt like a zombie in a fog.

It’s shit. But you’re not alone. Don’t feel bad about the state of your house. Do what you can when you can and concentrate on getting better.

Tiredoftiers · 22/11/2021 10:49

Took me till day 18ish. Still tired but not crippling any longer. I had a bit of a meltdown last week thinking I wasn’t going to feel better and this was now going to be me. I never felt that unwell, it just seemed to go on way longer than I felt it should.
@Crazyworld1979 have you had your chest pain checked? I would definitely get checked out

Crazyworld1979 · 22/11/2021 11:19

I'm thinking my chest pain is panic as my oxygen is sitting at 98/99 but I will keep an eye on it my biggest fear is going to that hospital covid has controlled my life for 18 months

Budapestdreams · 22/11/2021 11:27

Hi, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I'm 3 weeks post positive test and am still so tired. I just need to lie down most of the day and still need to sleep at some point during the day. I've never been this drained before. I've been having baths because having a shower is too much and I need a nap afterwards. I am getting slightly better each week but I can't even imagine being able to have a normal life at the moment.
I feel guilty too because I feel I should be able to shake this off. I am double vaccinated and it should have just been like a cold.
