17 days since positive test - breathing problems

KatyMac · 04/11/2021 01:28

I had breathing problems around day 6/7 but then it got better

But the last 2/3 days its got worse again with pain and shortness of breath & I am totally belly breathing

But my blood oxygen is stable around 97 (it was much lower before)

Do I need to speak to the gp/nurse or just wait it out?

Have you rung NHS 111 for advice? They can assess what help you might need. Hope you feel better soon x

rrhuth · 04/11/2021 02:07

If you feel you have trouble breathing, you get medical assessment. No ifs, no buts.

I hope your seeking a medical assessment, I wouldn’t wait for it to improve off my own back without getting some professional advice.

KatyMac · 04/11/2021 08:23

I rang 111 last week when it was much worse and they didn't feel I needed any help

My worry is that it went and came back

I'll ring the gp

Thanks

I had this and still have bouts of breathlessness. It was also around the same timeline. I called the GP and he asked me to come in to sound my chest and in the end sent me for an xray. I hope you manage to speak to your GP!

ParkheadParadise · 04/11/2021 08:31

I was the same. I phoned my GP and they asked me to come into the surgery.
Was told my heart rate was very fast and my blood oxygen was 96. She sent me up to the hospital. I went to the covid assessment unit. Got bloods, x-ray and fluids. I was kept for 2 nights and gives doxycycline (antibiotics)
That was 2 weeks ago and it's only now I'm starting to feel a bit better although I'm definitely not back to my usual self.
Hope you feel better soon.

MrsAvocet · 04/11/2021 09:33

Definitely seek help. I don't want to panic you and am not saying it is the same thing, but you definitely need to be checked over. Something similar happened to my DH but because it was episodic and he wasn't too bad inbetween he kept ignoring it until be was very sick indeed. He turned out to have multiple blood clots in both lungs. The doctors in the hospital said that they are seeing clots after covid quite a lot so please do get yourself looked at @KatyMac
It may be something completely different of course and sometimes covid does take a long time to recover but its not worth taking any risks - breathing difficulties need to be assessed. Hope you feel better soin.

KatyMac · 05/11/2021 13:31

GP rang and I'm off to the surgery and maybe some tests

Thanks guys

Good luck OP , hope it resolves soon .

KatyMac · 05/11/2021 15:42

Chest is clear

ECG & blood tests booked - apparently thyroid is a possibility although he was very interested in my weight loss too

MrsAvocet · 11/11/2021 02:30

Just wondered how you are doing now @KatyMac?
I hope everything is ok.

KatyMac · 11/11/2021 11:42

Hi @MrsAvocet thanks for remembering and asking
I have just cone off the phone to the gp surgery

They rang to say my blood test showed borderline thyroid problems (but no values) the ecg was clear and I need another thyroid test in 3 months

I said well what do I do now and they seemed surprised I was still quite poorly

I pointed out with chest pain I wasn't waiting 3 months on the off chance it was my thyroid...so the gp will call me tomorrow

& I guess I research thyroid - I think, if I remember right they only do a basic check and there is a more indepth one...but I might be talking through my pants!

I dont have the energy for this!

What are your main symptoms KatyMac?

KatyMac · 11/11/2021 12:08

Chest pain, breathlessness faster heart rate, dizziness (which I haven't really discussed with the gp as I only just connected me falling over/overbalancing) & exhaustion

I also have cfs/fm and gut issues pre covid

OP posts:
Psyopsy · 11/11/2021 12:09

Did they tell you what your thyroid TSH value was? I'm wondering if they think it is overactive or underactive.

KatyMac · 11/11/2021 12:10

& to make life fun I am menopausal and on hrt

OP posts:
KatyMac · 11/11/2021 12:11

I'll ask the gp tomorrow

OP posts:
Psyopsy · 11/11/2021 12:19

If the thyroid is underactive and you are losing weight you might need your adrenal hormones checked.

MrsAvocet · 11/11/2021 12:26

Have they done a D-Dimer blood test @KatyMac?
My DH had breathlessness, chest pain, extreme tiredness and a very fast heart rate which was caused by blood clots post Covid. He had to have a CT scan to confirm diagnosis but it was that blood test being sky high that put the doctors onto the right lines.
You may have had it done already of course, but if not, I would definitely ask. We got fobbed off by the GPs initially but the A& E consultant said that they are seeinb this quite a lot a few weeks after Covid. It cant do any harm to rule it out. Keep us posted and hope you feel better soon.

KatyMac · 11/11/2021 14:10

I think the weight loss was diarrhea/not eating but 7kg is a lot in 2 weeks so maybe water loss/bit dehydrated too @Psyopsy - oddly I have just had some acupuncture and reflexology - she said my adrenal and spleen were very gritty/tender GrinWink

I wouldn't have thought they did that test @MrsAvocet she only took 2 test tubes!

OP posts:
Psyopsy · 11/11/2021 15:55

That makes more sense then Katymac if you haven't been eating etc, I thought it was unexplained weight loss. I agree with the other poster though, ask for a D-Dimer test.

KatyMac · 12/11/2021 11:02

TSH 7 & T4 14.6

Lord knows what that means

OP posts:
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/11/2021 11:14

I’ll third the asking for a D-Dimer test.

KatyMac · 12/11/2021 11:24

No according to the GP the symptoms are wrong for that

He thinks I may be having panic attacks and cbt would help

If you have an oximeter try walking up and downstairs a couple of times, then take a reading after that. If it drops dramatically (below 90%) then your GP needs to know.
