Would you still bother with vaccination in our circumstances?

Jabbed x 2 plus recently recovered from Covid. Vaccines clearly didnt prevent infection but possibly lessened severity. I had a terrible reaction to Oxford and GP reported due to family history contraindications.

Kids are unvaccinated, missed due to isolation/hesitancy. Both positive now but it's a very mild cold for them. Barely noticeable in youngest.

Given that I think I was worse with the jab than the disease and possibly will be the same for the kids would you rely on existing immunity from now on?

Struggling to see any benefit at this point. Happy to test/isolate but given our family history I think certainly for them vaccination is more of a risk. Any thoughts?

Booster will be an mRNA (Pfizer most likely), which you might not react to. I’d go for it personally.

SapereAude · 03/11/2021 10:39

Yes. Of course.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/11/2021 10:40

Yes, most definitely.

Legoninjago1 · 03/11/2021 10:45

Yes get it.

trumpisagit · 03/11/2021 10:46

I wouldn't for kids now, but you, Yes if offered.
How old are you?

Playdoughcaterpillar · 03/11/2021 10:47

I see your point. I had same dilemma but if you are planning to travel it will be worth getting them vaccinated. Some countries count COVID positive followed by one jab as double vaccinated. So I decided to go ahead for this reason. Kids will have less side effects with Pfizer (they won't be offered AZ). My daughter just had a sore arm for one day.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 03/11/2021 10:47

No I wouldn't.

Beeinalily · 03/11/2021 10:48

Read about the side effects and run for the hills.

Side effects of Covid? Or the vaccine? Presuming you mean the first as there are far more than for the vaccine aren't there?
Beeinalily · 03/11/2021 11:52

@SapereAude I meant for the vaccine, as I'm sure you're aware. The vaccine that doesn't stop you getting or passing on the virus.

SummerHouse · 03/11/2021 11:54

It's likely you have immunity for some months. I would take a break from even considering it till new year. Then see how you feel. Extreme side effects from the vaccine are a very, very valid reason for being hesitant / deciding against it. Not sure why anyone would dismiss them!

KylieKoKo · 03/11/2021 12:08

For me it would depend on how much I wanted to be able to travel in the future.

@SummerHouse I too am confused by why people don't understand why someone who had had extreme side effects and probably has immunity might be hesitant.

Doesn't stop you? At all?
Do you have a link for that?

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2021 12:13

Yes I would. You’ll get Pfizer or Modena as a booster.

If I had had extreme side effects I probably wouldn't either. What extreme side effects have there been?
TinaYouFatLard · 03/11/2021 12:14

I also had a very bad reaction after AstraZeneca. I won’t let anyone near my children with this vaccine.

Children are not being vaccinated with AZ.

You won't have to. What was your bad reaction?
TinaYouFatLard · 03/11/2021 12:19

Children are not being vaccinated with AZ.

I’m well aware of that. When I had AZ it was deemed perfectly safe and not at all linked to blood clots/bleeding. We don’t know the long term effects of Pfizer jab on children - see Professor Adam Finn of the JCVI.

So why did you say you weren’t letting anyone near your children with it if you knew they weren’t vaccinating kids with AZ? Bizarre.
TinaYouFatLard · 03/11/2021 12:27

@PurpleDaisies I apologise profusely for my unclear statement. I am sure you can figure out what I meant.

@SapereAude I had sudden and unexplained internal bleeding. By the time I got to a&e my haemoglobin was 55 (usually 120 ish) I was close to collapse and needed 3 blood transfusions and four days in hospital.

Please forgive my hesitancy in giving any of these jabs to my children.

tv2021 · 03/11/2021 12:28

No, don't risk your health and your children health.

SapereAude · 03/11/2021 12:29

I wonder if in the future there'll be studies showing how many people had vaccine reactions, severe and otherwise, and were also anti lockdown, anti mask, anti restrictions etc even before the vaccine was introduced.
@PurpleDaisies AS is your friend. Brew

roses2 · 03/11/2021 12:31

You don't need the booster to travel (yet). I would hold off as long as possible and only take if I need to travel or I feel worried about catching covid.

I really don't see yet how boosters are going to work if vaccine immunity wears off after 7 months. Are they really going to be jabbing the whole population every 7 months? That will kill the NHS

If countries start asking for boosters and the government don't offer to all then the travel industry will have a fit
