Hi. I know this has been talked about a lot but all seems to have gone quiet on this.

Has anyone seen any update on 16-17yr olds getting second jabs approved? My DS is now way past 8 weeks after his first and would love to get his second - I can't find any update so presume there's has been none, but very surprised the press aren't picking this up! I understand the reasons for the caution, but would just like for him to have the choice at this stage. He would not get it under any of the cater/CEV etc rules btw.

TIA, if anyone has seen anything I've missed!

JCVI recommending 2nd jab for 16-17 yos

That would be so great. On the NHS vaccine booking site they still say only one vaccine. Hopefully they just need some time to update :)

I guess government still need to approve it, but they usually go with JCVI recommendations eventually.

@beggsie I think your best bet is to put your postcode into the website, find a walk-in centre near you that offers vaccines for 16-year olds, and then turn up. Because the Pfizer vaccine comes in these batches of many doses, I would think the likelihood of having one dose available for your DS is pretty high. And the worst they can do is turn you away.

In my view at least, now that there seems to be plenty of vaccine availability in UK with the main obstacle being take-up, there is absolutely nothing ethically wrong with a 16-year old getting his second dose one month before Christmas when COVID cases in schools are still high, even if the ever-changing recommendations are not currently "on" for all 16-year olds at that particular moment.

That sounds like a good idea - going to search now! Feeling v relieved that this issue has been addressed - it will make Xmas with the grandparents a bit less stressful!

The NHS England site is confirming 2nd jabs for 16-17s from 22 Nov…they can have it from 12 weeks.
