Faint lft after time, what's your experience?

DS left for school 15 min after nose only test.
At a quick glance we all were negative.
An hour later his test shows a very faint line. I wonder if it was there but I didn't see it at 15 min, but probably not.
I am aware this doesn't "count".
However, in your experience, is this the beginning?
I will get him to do another one this evening.

I’ve had this on multiple occasions and negative PCRs and now I don’t bother if I don’t see it within half an hour. Test tonight when back though and tomorrow and focus on if the line gets stronger.

Goggleb0x · 03/11/2021 09:29

This happened with my son and daughter who were both positive when we did a LFT the next day and subsequently received positive PCR results too. We tend to keep them hanging around until we get chance to report them, otherwise they would have been in the bin (a bit gross I know).

trumpisagit · 03/11/2021 09:32

@Goggleb0x
Exactly. I was just reporting them, actually reported it neg before I saw/imagined the line.

I need to check if anyone else can see it, but now I have spotted it I can't unsee it.

I’d test when he gets home I think to see if the line appears again. You could always post a pic. I love a good spot the line Grin.

trumpisagit · 03/11/2021 10:19

These are 3 different people's tests all taken at the same time this morning. Can you see a line on one, if so which one?
I have tried shuffling them with names covered and can still see it.

No

Nuttymonkey · 03/11/2021 10:30

First test to the left... I'd do a repeat one later but we do get this quite often with our kids but the line is never there within the time frame

Lottie4 · 03/11/2021 10:36

I agree, test on the left.

Wnikat · 03/11/2021 10:37

The one on the left.

In the exact same situation my son was positive on PCR

Goggleb0x · 03/11/2021 10:49

The one on the left definitely has a line.

Everly18 · 03/11/2021 10:52

Book a PCR test for him!

My son had a very faint line on his LFT last Monday (he was also unwell) but I put the test down and forgot about it, so by the time I actually looked at it some time had passed, maybe an hour or so and it had a very faint line. I always leave LFT tests out, even over night and not once have I ever seen a faint second line. So i booked him in for a PCR test the same day, it came back positive the next day.

Everly18 · 03/11/2021 10:53

Also I spotted that second line on the left without even needing to zoom in on your photo lol

trumpisagit · 03/11/2021 11:04

OK. Yes it's the left one.
Bugger.
Thanks, we will lft as soon as he walks in the door and go from there.

BlackInk · 03/11/2021 11:08

You should book him for a PCR regardless but we do sometimes get test lines appearing when we leave tests out for longer than we should. Really you shouldn't look after the time limit, but if you do and there's a line then it's best to check with a PCR.

BlackInk · 03/11/2021 11:09

Meant to say, the pic above was my DD and left a few hours - was negative at time limit - PCR negative, so there is hope!

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2021 11:13

OK. Yes it's the left one. Bugger. Thanks, we will lft as soon as he walks in the door and go from there.
You’re going to leave him in school all day thinking you can see a line on his test (which I can see too)?

I would get him home for a pcr. Do it today and it will most likely be back tomorrow.

idontlikealdi · 03/11/2021 11:16

You should get him out of school.

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2021 11:18

Seriously, can you imagine the conversation with school where you tell them you thought his test was positive bit you thought it was fine to leave him in class if he tests positive when he comes home? How many people will be be in contact with today? You’re really happy to take that risk?

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2021 11:19

Apologies for the typos and very long sentence there
You think his test is positive but you’re leaving him in school to potentially expose loads of pupils and teachers. What is your thinking there?

trumpisagit · 03/11/2021 11:20

But I am pretty certain the line wasn't there at the end of the test time. It appeared later.
His lft is negative, or so the instructions say.
Before he left the house I looked at all tests said "we are all clear".
DS actually left the house approx 25 after test, but the test was clear in the test time window.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2021 11:23

Glad you’re happy to take that risk.
I wouldn’t.
How bad will you feel if he tests positive when you lft him when he gets home?

SaborDeSoledad · 03/11/2021 11:25

I had a thread on this last week. Took another LTF and two PCRs (cough then sore throat). All negative. So not the start of anything here.... For now!

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 03/11/2021 12:16

I am in this situation. Only 10 minutes over the time limit (negative at 15 and forgot to look at 30) and there is a the faintest line. At first I reassured myself that it was too high, I.e. the top of the T but now I see the control line is above the C so maybe the cartridge is loaded higher???
Feel grotty but no traditional symptoms.
PCR booked for later.
(Ignore the dust on my desk)

DaisyWaldron · 03/11/2021 13:14

Same situation here. DD's test was all clear after 15 minutes, but I picked her test up 4 hours later to report our results and hers has a very, very faint positive line.

BlackInk · 03/11/2021 13:18

@SaborDeSoledad On your pic it looks like there's a clear colourless line where the test line would be, with pink smudging in the background consistent perhaps with putting too much liquid on? Maybe leave it to clear/dry for a bit longer and see what you're left with. Of course, if in doubt you should get a PCR, especially as you feel under the weather.
