Sore throat

BlondieD · 30/10/2021 18:21

I am experiencing a sore throat today. It's a dry and sore throat.

I was at a function last week so that could be a place of exposure. I don't knot if it's covid or a cold because I haven't tested. I don't have any lateral flow tests and I don't know if I should be testiing with only one symptom of a sore throat. I'm monitoring myself for more symptoms and checking temperature and no fever.

Just wondering if covid started as a sore throat for anyone here?

I started with a sore throat bothe with covid and what's been called "the worst cold ever" so it could be either.

BlondieD · 01/11/2021 18:20

Something else to add as well, he lives at home with his mum. She doesn't have any symptoms of what he has and yet I picked up the dose he has. This leads me into thinking that covid is a possibility. I remember in the early days of the pandemic, there were nursing homes where the elderly residents went from symptoms to death in a matter of hours. I think there might be something about covid in some elderly people where they don't show symptoms as early and when they do have symptoms, it's harder. Something like that.

I will find out tomorrow what the results are. I avoided drinking water for about half an hour before the test today because I didn't want to dilute the phelym and the tester went digging deep in my nose too so I am confident that a good sample was taken. Results will be 24 to 48 hours

I have a seriously sore throat today and a banging head. Otherwise I feel okay not tired or anything but I’ve been down this road so many times and it’s never been Covid (although severe sore throat is a new one to me). I lat flow everyday whilst feeling like this so we shall see.

Suspiciousmind20 · 01/11/2021 20:21

Covid went for me: two day headache then sore throat, then cough, then fever and cough, then very snotty head cold, loss of taste and smell, two days of just coughing then nausea and headache. Now left with headache, fatigue and still no smell or taste.

BlondieD · 01/11/2021 20:38

Are you vaccinated suspicious?

That is the weird time line of symptoms.

It's so scary how there's a crossover between colds and covid. It's also scary how covid starts off mild-ish and it would be easy for people to dismiss the symptoms as a cold and continue on your business and potentially spread it to others and put them at risk of sickness.

I know a lot of people are vaccinated now and I am vaccinated but my worry is passing it onto someone vulnerable and also breaking out in sickness and flu for a week or two.
If all the symptoms appear together you could put it down to a high probability of covid and isolate yourself to protect others.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

I hope you feel better soon socially distain.

For anyone suffering with a sore throat, I'm finding coconut water very soothing. It might help others.

DH has a really sore throat at the moment but had Covid just over a month ago. He didn’t have a sore throat with Covid, mainly runny nose, sinusitis and aches. Onset was quite sudden like flu,

My first symptoms were an awful headache, the worst sore throat I have ever had and waking up each morning with blocked up ears. Day 3 pcr was negative then on day 5 of symptoms I had a positive lft, and then a positive pcr.

BlondieD · 01/11/2021 23:00

HELPNEEDHELP

You didn't get a positive til 5/6 days into your illness.

God, that leaves me in a bit of a pickle. I'm hoping my results will be with me tomorrow. The minute I get a result and if its negative I need to be back to work. I swear to god.

What if my dose ends up to be and on and off illness and same with tests?
You wonder how many more people are walking around symptomatic but testing negative in the early days and going with the original negative result.

Completely agree. The Government guidance is still the same (continuous cough, loss of taste/smell, fever) but symptoms for the Delta variant, which is doing the rounds, are different. If the Gov wants people to test it needs to update its guidance.

Mine started with a sore throat I didn't get a temp at all and I didn't notice I lost my smell until I was feeling better

My husband had different symptoms and my daughter had hardly any symptoms

whateveryouwantmetosay · 02/11/2021 03:51

Following as we were around friends literally yesterday, by evening the older child had a fever and today none of us feel well, slight sore throat and cough.

Greenrubber · 02/11/2021 04:22

I meant to say my LFT didn't show up positive for a few days i had my PCR come back positive before I got a positive off the LFT

Imfedupwithallofthis · 02/11/2021 06:29

"If my results come back positive tomorrow or in 48 hours, I really think my exposure came from him and I'm going to finish with him"

He has been going around the place with symptoms, which by law require PCR testing or isolation for 10 days.
You are happy to stay with him if your results are negative, you will finish with him if the results are positive - why? He will still be a law breaker and an irresponsible person, whether the result is positive or negative.

This was the same for someone I know. First pcr negative then on day 5 finally positive. In that time the exposure is done. That’s how I feel feel about work too, it’s a bugger!
CheshireSplat · 02/11/2021 07:16

Just to balance out the replies, I had a nasty sore throat and it wasn't covid. Wouldn't have wished it on anyone else though and it hung around for a while.

BlondieD · 02/11/2021 09:29

I'm on day 4 of whatever I have. I don't have the results back from the pcr test yet.

I'm able to get up and move about. I do t have a fever. My cough has increased in intensity. It feels like a chest infection but I know this could also spell covid.

My employer wants me back to work straight away. I am waiting on results and of the results are negative, she wants me back in even though I still have symptoms.

What kind of work do you do? If you are not well, you are not well! She sounds very uncaring.

I have only a slight cough but no appetite and if I get up I want to go back to bed, so I know I'm not right. My ears are ringing like crazy.

Itsnotallaboutyoubaby · 02/11/2021 19:40

I have the same :( it sucks

Holly30d · 02/11/2021 21:39

Hello, I have a nasty sore throat and feel a malaise of some sort. I had similar a few weeks ago with bad headache and slight dry cough, had a positive lateral flow and then a negative pcr. Wondering if I did have covid and if this sore throat is a hangover - or even a touch of long covid - anyone else have anything similar.

I think if anyone is under pressure to go back to work when they are feeling ill, they shouldn't let themselves be bullied into going back. No one at work will thank them for passing a bug around. Some of these things going round at the moment seem to take a while to get rid of.

LadyEggs · 03/11/2021 08:05

I'm on day 4. Woke up coughing in the night and this morning I'm snotty, voice has gone and still a sore throat. But I feel clearer in my head and have more energy. Just waiting for the PCR test result now.

How did you get on BlondieD?

sociallydistained · 03/11/2021 09:19

My sore throat (after one awful night) has disappeared and I feel fine. Still testing neg on lat flows so I guess that’s that. Another “scare” to add to the list 😳🤦🏻‍♀️

LadyEggs · 03/11/2021 10:25

That's good news Sociallydistained! Smile

BlondieD · 03/11/2021 16:57

I was dreading this cold because its the first one in a few years. Reading reports here online of people suffering for weeks on end. When I woke on Saturday with a sore throat, I was deflated and dreading it.

It's Wednesday now and I'm about 98% better. Sore throat is gone. Headache is gone. Cough seems to be gone. The only thing that remains is a slight drip and a sinus squeak to my voice.

Wonder why it’s taking so long for PCR results?
