Sore throat

BlondieD · 30/10/2021 18:21

I am experiencing a sore throat today. It's a dry and sore throat.

I was at a function last week so that could be a place of exposure. I don't knot if it's covid or a cold because I haven't tested. I don't have any lateral flow tests and I don't know if I should be testiing with only one symptom of a sore throat. I'm monitoring myself for more symptoms and checking temperature and no fever.

Just wondering if covid started as a sore throat for anyone here?

I have a really bad sore throat today. I had a negative lft yesterday

Budapestdreams · 30/10/2021 18:28

It can be a symptom, yes. You can order LFTs online on the government website.

I’ve got covid, Monday I was sneezing, Tuesday very tired, Wednesday I had a coughing episode then shivers over night, and an awful sore throat, Thursday still a bad sore and hoarse throat and a temp and sweating badly over night and feeling a bit sick, Friday I was coughing up green phlegm and had a rattling chest/throat and sore and hoarse throat and couldn’t eat anything and also had a temp and awful sweats and really tired.

Today my throat doesn’t feel as bad but my voice is still hoarse, I’ve been resting my voice but feel a bit breathless when talking and have managed to eat today. I had a temp until about 2pm that’s gone off since I took paracetamol and had a shower. I’ve also got a post nasal drip, and I’ve had a bit of ear ache the first couple of days. Mines been like a bad cold/upper respiratory infection.

So a sore throat could be the start.

TreeFella · 30/10/2021 18:38

Sore throat was the start for me along with a slight cough. Same for two of my children. I'd say get a pcr if you're worried about possibly spreading it about. Then at least you know. But might need repeating depending on whether your symptoms get worse or different.

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 30/10/2021 18:40

I did a 2 Lft’s on Thursday both faint positive, positive PCR yesterday so about 3-4 days from first symptoms

BlondieD · 30/10/2021 18:41

Thank you for your replies. I am isolating and keeping my contacts low. I will monitor my symptoms over the next few more days. I will order some lateral flow tests online and I will decide early next week on going for a pcr test.

My partner was sick last week. He had several symptoms but he said it was the same dose as a colleague and he was adamant it was a cold and not covid even though he never tested.

I work with vulnerable people though and I won't be able to anywhere near them on Monday even if there's a slight hint of covid.

Hope you’ve not got it, I’ve felt shocking and really hope I’m over the worse

BlondieD · 30/10/2021 18:54

I think there's something brewing with me. I feel the cold and it's gone right through me, down my spine and into my bones if that makes sense.

I guess at this stage, it's waiting and seeing what happens. I will continue to isolate and I will pcr test Monday.

OP, for the future, have you considered logging with the Zoe app? That way, if you experience any possible symptom of Covid they will ask you to get a PCR test. There is a box you can tick when ordering a test to say that the Zoe app people have asked you to test. (I appreciate that many people will simply claim to have one of the officially recognised symptoms in order to get a test, but others don't feel comfortable doing that.)

KittenKong · 30/10/2021 19:42

Me too - coughing like a 100 a day smoker and feels like I’m being throttled. 2 negative years though Confused

BlondieD · 30/10/2021 22:31

I don't know what I'm facing just yet if what I have is a cold or the onset of Covid.

I take a cocktail of supplements every day and I look after myself. I remember the winter time 2019 and into the Spring of 2020 - so about 2 years ago - everyone around me came down with colds and bugs and I was able to escape it all. I put it down to the cocktail of supplements that I took back then but not much has changed since then. I'm still taking a load of supplements every day. I know a cold or a mild covid infection isn't the end of the world but I am distraught because I had such a good and lucky spell without illness.

Get a PCR. Do not use a lateral if you have any symptoms.

My dd's covid started with a sore throat.

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 10:29

I have a sinus drip now and also a cough but it's mild so far.

I continue to isolate and I will pcr tomorrow to find out what I have.

My partner was sick last weekend. It wasn't flu sick. It was like a cold/chest infection sick. He was coughing. He never isolated and he continued to go to work and a social function. I sat by him at the function where he continued to cough. He coughed into a closed fist where droplets were still spread from his coughing.

Is it likely I picked up the dose I have from him? I haven't been around anyone else sick.

Get a PCR. Do not use a lateral if you have any symptoms.
Lateral flow still works with symptoms, they just aren't quite as accurate. Why people think the virus disappears when you develop symptoms is beyond me. It's a good starting point, and if it's positive it's unlikely to be wrong.

Cookerhood · 31/10/2021 11:47

So your partner didn't test? Why not?

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 15:20

Because hesl was a selfish twat and that's all it was. He stuck his head in the sand and claimed it was a cold and went on his merry way coughing left, right and centre. Now it's up to me to isolate and test in order not to pass it on to others. I find it shocking how he was allowed to work while he was sick without a test and potentially putting others at risk - his colleagues and customers.

I'm hoping it's not covid but it's still not OK what he did. He was sick and he never isolated to help protect others.

I have a pcr test booked for tomorrow.

Hi BlondieD, I'm joining your thread with similar symptoms. Had a scratchy throat yesterday but felt quite chipper until the afternoon. Today I woke up with a sore throat, a bit of a tight cough (but not much) and generally feel a bit lethargic and fuggy. I've also got a metallic taste in my mouth.

It could just be a cold. LFTs have been negative. I've ordered a PCR test so interested to see how yours comes out. I've read that the symptoms for the Delta variant more closely match cold symptoms but people are passing it off as just that, so many are not testing.

How are you today?

Soulstirring · 01/11/2021 15:19

I started with aches and pains in my muscles, particularly on my back and a sore throat. Tested negative Thursday, positive Friday. It’s Monday and I have a high temp, sweats and a cough.

BlondieD · 01/11/2021 15:49

Yeah I think this is possibly covid with me.

My partner works in hospitality and he came down sick last week. He's wasn't very sick but he was coughing. He self diagnosed as a cold and not covid but he never tested. Whatever dose he has, he's flying around his work place. How many more people are self diagnosing and not testing? How come colds are going around high and covid is still high but its just colds that people are having. How come it's colds taking a hold and not covid. It doesn't make sense to me.

I woke up this morning feeling great. The sore throat was gone and all that remained the trickle in my throat. I spoke too soon.

I made it to the test centre with no issues. Then a while later my tummy was so sore and I needed a toilet. My arse was going to explode. I got to a toilet and then I was OK. Then I had the same episode again a while later.

I am now going to try and go home again and I hope I make the journey home without my arse needing an explosion. Fucking hell. I feel feverish in parts but my thermometer is at home.

Aside from all that I am OK and I am waiting on test results. Hopefully tomorrow.

I started with a sore throat and earache on Saturday, thought I was going in for a cold. Work suggested I have a pcr test yesterday, got a positive result todau5

SpookyPumpkinPants · 01/11/2021 17:48

Your partner is a dick. He's in hospitality. He's spreading his germs around to staff & customers alike as well as at a social function. Fucking plank.

SpookyPumpkinPants · 01/11/2021 17:50

Sorry, I hope you feel better soon. I also hope you made it home without an 'event'!!

If your test comes back negative, try again in a couple of days, as many people are taking a few days to show as positive.

Look after yourself (but get that idiot told)

BlondieD · 01/11/2021 18:15

Whatever dose he had, it went around his whole place. There's none of them testing and they are self diagnosing colds. There's some blame to his employer imo because I saw my partner coughing and he was allowed to continue to work even though he had symptoms.

I woke up this morning and I felt OK but the cough is increasing now. If my results come back positive tomorrow or in 48 hours, I really think my exposure came from him and I'm going to finish with him. He had symptoms and he was coughing and yet he never once restricted his movements and lowered his contacts nor did he ever test to put his contacts on a warning. I'm fucking fuming. If he tested and got a result I would be in a better position knowing where I am but he never did. He's put so many people at risk and he was so careless about it all.
