I've got a couple of shows booked for dd and me in London in December and February.

Now thinking they'll probably be cancelled?

They were meant to be part of her Christmas and birthday presents, so if they're cancelled I'll probably get her something else.

Does anyone know? OK, I know nobody knows, but can anyone make an educated guess?

Maybe I should buy her back up pressies anyway and just stash them if not needed.

Wasn't sure whether to post in this board or Christmas BTW. I know it isn't a serious issue, just a minor inconvenience, but they were expensive tickets.

I have a small fortune in panto tickets for week before Christmas as part of presents. Confused

frozendaisy · 24/10/2021 10:21

I think it will happen, with vaccine passports.

Yep, plan B is coming. The government knows they/we can’t afford another lockdown.
Snugglemuffin · 24/10/2021 10:25

Ah shite, I'd forgotten about panto. Also have tickets to two of those. God damn it.

I was trying to buy less 'stuff' this year, so it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I am double jabbed and dd is only 6 (7 after birthday obviously). So, if that's the only criteria, I'll be fine.

I also work in hospitality, so that should be worrying me more, but for some reason all I can think about is the fecking theatre tickets GrinBlush

I think we just have to plough on, hoping for the best and assuming it will go ahead. Don't contingency plan. It's an important lesson for our children. Be positive. Accept if falls through. Fingers crossed for you!

Warhertisuff · 24/10/2021 10:36

I don't believe the Government will close theatres. The "worst" that will happen is vaccine passports and mandatory mask wearing throughout the performance, but I really don't think any more closures will occur.

I think the Government will plough on... vaccines will mean things won't be as bad as last year (or at least what they would have been had no restrictions been in place).

I don't think people realise that the hospitalisations and deaths that we had last year would have been "acceptable" had we been confident that those were the maximum extent of the crisis. The reason we locked down was to prevent things from becoming 3-4 times worse with people literally dying on the streets outside hospitals. We're passed that now.

IShouldProbablyHooverMore · 24/10/2021 10:56

It's a serious issue for those in the performing arts industry. (Which I know isn't how you meant it - I'm not being snarky.)
I've got loads of theatre events, concerts booked for the next few months and I will be gutted if they get cancelled - for my family, and for the performers.

Snugglemuffin · 24/10/2021 11:08

I agree - it must be awful for them, which is another reason I've bought so many tickets lately! Really wanted to support the industry.

I am a very regular theatre and gig goer and can't see a way out without vacccine passports and mandatory mask wearing. They should be here already.

frozendaisy · 24/10/2021 11:13

We went last week and needed proof of vaccination/Covid recovery letter to get in. This was part of the T&Cs when purchasing tickets so passports are here sort of.

MareofBeasttown · 24/10/2021 11:15

I went last week and while the ticket specified proof, they didn't ask for it at the door. I am going to a comedy gig today and no proof needed. Seems ad hoc.

Snugglemuffin · 24/10/2021 11:22

I definitely noticed that the tickets I bought states proof of double vaccination or immunity through having had covid needed.

This. I took proof of double vaccination plus negative LFT and they never looked at any of it.
DarceyDashwood · 25/10/2021 21:57

All theatres and theatre operators have their own rules and policies. ATG venues ask for Covid pass or neg LFT.

LizziesTwin · 25/10/2021 21:59

I’ve been to the theatre a few times recently and worn a mask throughout. I’d rather wear a mask inside than have everything closed again.

Cheermonger · 25/10/2021 21:59

We went on Friday and no restrictions or checks whatsoever.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 25/10/2021 22:03

As an aside Dd had Covid when we were meant to be seeing Six, it had been rescheduled 3 times and finally ended up the day before her birthday. The theatre (regional, not West End) had no problem canceling our tickets and giving me credit which I promptly used on another show. So hopefully all theatres are as obliging.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 25/10/2021 22:08

I agree with PP I don't think any businesses will be closed but you may have to watch wearing a mask and show proof of vaccination/negative test beforehand as worst case scenario

littlestmunchkin · 26/10/2021 07:28

I've got two musicals and a panto booked, all rolled over from 2020!

Really massively don't want to go if it's masked though (we both had covid last week). Not sure what current sit is in London West end?

littlestmunchkin · 26/10/2021 07:32

I guess as you don't have to show proof of mask exemption it can't be enforced though?

bengalcat · 26/10/2021 07:32

Have got quite a few booked too - hoping there won’t be any cancellations- wear a mask at work all day so not bothered to wear at a theatre .

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 26/10/2021 07:49

My experience (Midlands not London) is that I keep booking things that are then postponed or cancelled. I always get offered my money back though.

I’ve been to the theatre twice recently. At one venue you had to wear masks throughout. At the other you had to wear them until you were seated but could then take them off (and most people did),

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 26/10/2021 07:50

London is different than though in that theatres have the same thing one for weeks on end. Here we get them for one night or a week max.

littlestmunchkin · 26/10/2021 07:50

Yeah I think wearing them til seated is fine. I can't see how they can enforce beyond that anyway so that's what we'll do.

AuntieMarys · 26/10/2021 07:55

We went to our first gig last night and had to show proof of double vaccination. 1700 seater venue...full.
We have 6 more gigs/ theatre before Xmas so hope nothing changes. It was amazing to be listening to live music again.
