I've got a couple of shows booked for dd and me in London in December and February.

Now thinking they'll probably be cancelled?

They were meant to be part of her Christmas and birthday presents, so if they're cancelled I'll probably get her something else.

Does anyone know? OK, I know nobody knows, but can anyone make an educated guess?

Maybe I should buy her back up pressies anyway and just stash them if not needed.

Wasn't sure whether to post in this board or Christmas BTW. I know it isn't a serious issue, just a minor inconvenience, but they were expensive tickets.

I don't think anything will be cancelled. There'll maybe be compulsory vaccine passports/testing.

I've been a few times since things got back to "normal". The first in the very early weeks was a West End show where your were "asked" to wear masks throughout and most peope did.

Since then, you're still asked/reminded but very few people do. I was at a classical concert in London this weekend and didn't see anyone except staff with a mask.

I've been to the theatre a few times recently. Sometimes I've been asked for my Covid pass but not always. Some theatres have said masks when moving around, others have asked for masks all the way through but most people didn't bother. I can't see them closing theatres again but making covid passes and masks mandatory may happen.

littlestmunchkin · 26/10/2021 08:13

But they're hardly going to have ushers clambering through the seats demanding people mask up so I imagine just covid passports ?

CarlaH · 26/10/2021 08:27

@littlestmunchkin

Yeah I think wearing them til seated is fine. I can't see how they can enforce beyond that anyway so that's what we'll do.
Do you stop breathing when you sit down then?

That's a rare talent.

Yep ATG wouldn't let you in without COVID Pass. We have about 8 concerts/ theatre trips booked. Many postponed from two years ago. Will definitely be wearing a mask.

littlestmunchkin · 26/10/2021 10:36

@CarlaH I had covid last week, so did dd. Theatre tickets are early November. Therefore there's no way we could be infectious. But thanks for the judgy!

Well I am pleased that you personally are no risk to anybody but there are hundreds of people in a theatre sitting elbow to elbow with other people.

Some of them might well be exhaling covid for two or three hours.

I cannot understand why it is considered unsafe to move around without wearing a mask but not while sitting still.

MagicWorkout · 26/10/2021 13:47

When you're moving around you come into contact with loads of people. Sitting still, realistically you're only a "risk" to a handful. Any restrictions are and always were, about reducing the number of infections, not eliminating them.

Amberflames · 26/10/2021 13:52

My view on this stuff is there’s one way to guarantee you don’t get to go and that’s not to buy tickets in the first place. I have quite a few things booked for over Christmas.

thewhatsit · 26/10/2021 13:54

I have been to the theatre quite a few times since it reopened this summer and have plans to go around Christmas too. I think it will go ahead. To close would be to destroy that industry which is only hanging on by the skin of its teeth.

Fair point.
