What were your child’s Covid symptoms?

8 year old DD complained of a headache after school yesterday. She was also very tired and off her food (very unlike her!).

Quickly progressed to a high temperature and she has been sick twice in the night.

She’s not well enough for a PCR right now and she hates them at the best of times! Will try and do a LFT in the meantime though.

I know there are so many viruses doing the rounds at the moment but wondered what your primary aged children’s symptoms were if they tested positive for Covid?

Hi OP, sorry she's sick.

LFT for you is a good idea but obviously they are not meant for symptomatic people.

Step child's first symptom was saying they felt a bit yuck Saturday night then came a bad head Sunday and temperature on the Monday morning. Much slower than their friends who had the full shebang within a day.

Fivetoomany · 23/10/2021 08:28

I have had myself and 4 children at home positive this week. All of us have had headache and tiredness.
2x children have vomited.
Sore throats
Coughing
High temp
Sneezing
All symptoms come and go at different times.
The new flow flex lfts have worked best for us. Only need to do nostrils and positive result almost immediately. We then booked pcrs.
Hope your dd is ok Smile

ParmigianoReggiano · 23/10/2021 08:31

One DC had a headache and a temperature. The other one just had a cough. Neither vomited. Both said their sense of taste was mildly affected.

OP, if she's well enough for a LFT then you can order a home PCR rather than going to a testing centre.

littlepeas · 23/10/2021 08:39

My ds is 10 and had classic symptoms - a cough and a temperature - but they were very mild and only lasted for around a day.

Bunn5 · 23/10/2021 08:41

I haven’t attempted the LFT yet but have ordered a home PCR.

Thanks for the replies so far. It’s so hard not to immediately think it’s Covid!

body aches, high temperature, mild cold-type symptoms (not very persistent cough, snotty nose).

DaxtheDestroyer · 23/10/2021 08:45

Sore throat and sniffles for a day. She was pretty tired too but only by about a week in.
According to the covid Zoe app, I think fatigue, sore throat and headaches are the most common symptoms in children.

MistyFrequencies · 23/10/2021 08:47

Sore throat, sneezing, red eyes like allergies. Then came cough. Only one of them had a temperature

Louiselady500 · 23/10/2021 08:55

Headache, tiredness for a few days. Then all ok.

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 23/10/2021 08:56

DC1 has a sore throat on summer camp but LFT negative. Tested 4 days later on return home and was positive. Had a headache for a couple of days then lost taste / smell. Calpol for a couple of days.

DC2 looked flushed for a couple of days and said had a headache. Didn't want / need Calpol. Also lost taste / smell.

After taking every possible precaution to avoid them getting it up to Summer camp, it was so mild I do not fear them getting it again and feel less fearful for myself too. I can understand why the young don't feel at risk when it comes to taking precautions.

Bunn5 · 23/10/2021 09:07

Interesting how some have it so mildly.

DD is pretty unwell & miserable 😢
In the night she complained of either being boiling hot or freezing cold with shivering. Says her throat feels like a lump (but not sore) and I’m not sure if this is from vomiting. I’ve tried looking at her tonsils but can’t see because her tongue is in the way.

Poor thing. It’s horrible when children are unwell and it’s so rare for our DD.

1 dc had sore red eyes, that was it.

The other had a mild temperature / bit out of sorts for a day or so.

If we hadn’t tested as close contacts, I really wouldn’t have known.

I hope your dd feels better soon.

Beesneeze82 · 23/10/2021 09:11

Red eyes.

I thought it was conjunctivitis.

Other child chin asymptomatic.

Ah poor poppet Sad

Only person in our house who has had it (knowingly) is 17 year old DS who had it last Christmas. He had a bad headache, high temp then body aches and lack of appetite.

I've known a few younger children to have it since and most had a sore throat as their main symptom

polkadotpixie · 23/10/2021 09:22

My just turned 3 year old DS has just had it. He was snotty like with a cold and off his food. He later developed a mild cough. Never had a fever, didn't mention a headache and is too young to understand the concept of losing his sense of smell and taste so I don't know about that...overall very mild, he's been much more unwell with colds in the past

Beekindbeehumble · 23/10/2021 09:22

Symptoms in my child:
Headache
High temperature for 2-3 days
Fatigue

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 23/10/2021 09:23

Dc is 4, and just wasn’t quite themselves. A little bit more tired (although sleep pattern barely changed), slightly off their food, and a bit more grumpy/teary than usual. It lasted about 3 days. If it had been a couple of years ago, I wouldn’t have even given it any thought, and we would have just carried on as normal. We only tested as a precaution, because we’d been in contact with a relative who when on to test positive.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 23/10/2021 09:23

Forgot to add, hope your daughter is feeling better soon!

5 kids in DD’s class tested positive on PCRs this week with those exact symptoms.
IamJuliaJohnson · 23/10/2021 09:26

Please also try and look at her tonsils because those are the same symptoms my child had with (recurrent) tonsillitis. Especially the throat feeling like a lump. They are also all good covid symptoms so it could be that. I tested a child this week for headache, fatigue, sore throat and cough which was ultimately negative but also seems to fit the pattern.

Butterfly44 · 23/10/2021 09:30

12yo, sore throat, headache, fatigue, achy eyes. Positive LFT waiting on PCR result.

Yellow85 · 23/10/2021 09:48

8yo / completely asymptomatic bar sleeping an hour longer one day

Yes definitely going to try & look at her tonsils again later.

DS aged 8 had a bit of a snotty nose, raised temperature and oddly had 3 nosebleeds. He caught it off me, I tested positive first then he did 6 days later.

@Waxonwaxoff0 I’ve had the nosebleeds too, apparently infection settled in sinuses and nostrils. GP gave me an anti infection cream for up my nose - the same one they use to kill mrsa in nose. It’s worked wonders for me
