Hey guys. I'm day 2 into having covid, I've had both jabs I had Astra Zeneca back in the beginning of the year and to say I feel utterly deathly is an understatement!

How long can I expect to feel so poorly? Sad is there any magic remedy or medication you found helped your symptoms? Thanks Sad

DH had it in the summer after being double jabbed with AZ, he has no underlying health conditions and has a healthy BMI. He tested positive with no symptoms (DD had a positive LFT so we all had PCRs), didn't start feeling poorly until 4 days later, then had ~3 days of feeling headachey and too tired to work then was fine. No worse than a mild cold or flu.

IWishTheBishopWell · 22/10/2021 11:30

@BlibBlabBlob

I forgot to say that I too had AZ in April and March. Early 40s with no known underlying health conditions and normal BMI.

Had a strong reaction to the first jab, in fact it made me way more ill than COVID has so far.

But I'm only on Day 3 of testing positive.

So worried that I will become very unwell. Oximeter being delivered today as my smart watch is delivering some worryingly low pulse ox readings.

Also, having COVID at the same time as a very heavy perimenopausal period is NOT fun!

The oximeters are much more accurate than smartphones (not sure how accurate a smart watch is).

Keep a close eye on it and ask for advice if you're worried.

The NHS page for looking after yourself with Covid has what to look out for oxygen wise. Basically 93 or 94% test again within the hour and seek advice from GP or 111 if it hasn't improved. 92% or less check again and then call 999 or go to A&E.

I hope the pulse oximeter gives you better readings Flowers

Day 8 here, haven’t faired to badly in the scheme of things so I’ve wfh throughout. No taste or smell, dry sore sinuses, headache. I found nasal sprays, paracetamol and a daily hot bath helpful. And somewhere silent!

BlibBlabBlob · 22/10/2021 11:48

Thank you @IWishTheBishopWell, I'm expecting the readings to be higher when the oximeter arrives but will definitely be keeping a close eye on it.

I had a massive panic last night about what if I end up in hospital or worse; DH due to a long history of mental illness just wouldn't cope with running the house, or looking after the pets, or (most importantly) taking care of a distraught DD. I think I will feel a lot calmer a week from now, assuming I'm at least sort-of OK by then.

maz210 · 22/10/2021 12:15

I'm on day 5, have been double jabbed with Pfizer. I've felt really rough this week but starting to feel a bit better today.

I caught it from my 13-year-old, he's now on day 9 and has been much worse than me. He also seems a bit better this morning, his temperature finally going down.

Fairisfoul · 22/10/2021 12:42

Hi, I'm in the same boat, double jabbed and tested positive at the weekend - I'm day 7ish now. I had temps, sore throat, running nose, sneezing, aches, headaches, cough, nausea and total exhaustion. The whole lot pretty much. Now most of that is gone but I'm feeling completely wrung out and actually quite down/depressed Sad. My sense of smell/taste is completely gone which is very strange.

Flowers to all those suffering, hopefully we'll recover soon.

Yellow85 · 22/10/2021 12:44

I’m feeling so much better at day 8 except from my sinuses which are no bleeding from the dryness. Waiting on GP calling back and hopefully sort the last bits out.

Still no taste/smell tho

We’re all going to get it, even with two vaccine doses as it’s endemic.
But the vaccines should stop most of us needing hospital.
Sorry you’re all so ill, wishing you a speedy recovery. Every round with Covid gives you extra immunity.. that’s the positive from it anyway

Yellow85 · 22/10/2021 21:22

I’ve worked throughout. Took one day off today to get the schoolwork done and tbh just to let my body rest!

Bookridden · 22/10/2021 21:27

@BlibBlabBlob I'm on about day 18/19 and recovering fast. Like you, I felt panicky and was worried about needing to go into hospital. My GP prescribed a short course of diazepam to help me through the panic, and this was very good for a few days. Panic and extreme anxiety can be a response to low oxygen levels my GP told me.

Bookridden · 22/10/2021 21:30

@Fairisfoul I can relate to everything you say (am about 10 days further into my recovery). It sounds as if you're over the worst and you are likely to begin picking up quickly. The effects on your MH are absolutely shocking, aren't they? It's a combination of being physically unwell and having to confront the fear of serious illness I think. This gets much better as your health improves.

I wouldn’t be rushing back, I’ve been working and homeschooling DCs and its dragged it out for me. Days have went quicker, but by mid afternoon I was exhausted and breathless. I was given an antibiotic today from GP for sinus problems and tonight I can actually very slightly tasted my squash! 🎉🎉

toocold54 · 22/10/2021 21:53

I have exactly the same symptoms as you but I have done two PCR tests and both are negative so it’s just the normal flu.

I was finally well enough to nip to the shops today but it felt uncomfortable as I think people thought my cough was covid.

LemonWeb · 22/10/2021 22:00

I have felt better today - my sore throat has gone and the headache has eased too. Still got blocked nose etc but I can live with that. Cough still there though. Brew ⬅️ Lemsip cheers.

morticiamarkle · 22/10/2021 22:15

I am 24h post testing positive on LFT (waiting for my pcr to turn up)

I had headache & scratchy throat yesterday. Today just scratchy throat.

When should I expect to start feeling shit? So far I feel fine. Normal temp, normal appetite. Ran 4 miles yesterday & could have today if I wasn't isolating.

WitchyNameChange · 22/10/2021 22:25

I had it in January, we all did. Didn't feel great but it wasn't the worst I've ever felt with a virus. The loss of taste and smell was annoying though, lasted about 5 days. Headache was probably the worst part but I'm prone to migraines anyway. Wishing you a speedy recovery Thanks

All four of us have had it here. Positive PCRS earlier in the week. DH and I have had two doses of AZ and DS16 one of Pfizer. DH taken to hospital on Thursday morning with low oxygen levels and still there now. Really hoping he will be home over the weekend. Made me look at this all very differently, what would it have been like without the vaccine!

@karenb40 so sorry to hear that, really hope he will be home soon.

@Bookridden thank you, I so agree about the fear - I'm feeling a little better today and even starting to smell things a little...

Bimblesalong · 23/10/2021 10:48

Sorry to hear this @karenb40

Day 7 for me and still can’t get out of bed. Snot drying up and headaches reduced. Deep muscle pain (I think) in lungs - is this the deep stabbing pain people mention? Haven’t coughed too much.

I have a week clear until I need to start cancelling more work - self employed.

Son is out of isolation today and has fared much lighter.

TreeLawney · 23/10/2021 11:37

@morticiamarkle you might not feel worse.

I was testing daily because a dc was already +. When I got the + LFT I felt completely fine. Next day a bit of a sniffle, less taste. The next night was the worst I felt (temperature / shivers but nothing horrifying), then just a heavy cold / bit tired. I’ve been able to be up & doing every day, just with a few early nights.

IWishTheBishopWell · 23/10/2021 13:01

@Eightytwenty

How much (if any) time were you off work? I WFH. Wondering if I’ll be able to work next week (have been on holiday this week).
I also WFH. I had 7 weeks off sick followed by a 4 week phased return. I'm now back full time.

I had it quite badly though with a secondary chest infection and a kidney infection which took two courses of antibiotics to shift. I also had an arthritis flare triggered by it (it's an autoimmune arthritis).

It seems to really vary, some people have mild symptoms and WFH throughout and others take longer to recover. Don't be afraid to rest up if you need to - resting now could mean a faster recovery and reduce your long Covid risk.

My GP said it can take up to 12 weeks to recover and then they consider long Covid as a possibility.
