If you are 40s and double jabbed but recently got Covid, how long did you take to get better?

Just that really. Me and dh both 40s. Both double jabbed with AZ since end May. Got Covid, now on day 10.

Suffered quite badly for 7-8 days and then both turned a corner. We are left with tiredness, minor residual cough and headache. Dh has lost smell/taste. The symptoms that we had before we improved were crippling tiredness, temperature, cold, cough, fuzzy head, headache, aching limbs.

If you have been ill like this, and are roughly similar in age, how long before you properly recovered?

Thanks for any answers. (It came from teenagers’ school for info!)

I felt the illness but not too bad for about five days (sore sinuses, cold, blocked nose, sneezing, loss of taste and smell). But then the fatigue and spinning head and jelly legs set in and I wasn't right for about four to five weeks. I improved quite suddenly though.

Feel normal now, two months later. Still quite headachey, but I've always had a lot of headaches.

I am 52 tested positive in Saturday, double vaccinated. Terrible metallic taste in my mouth, really tired wobbly legs, aches and pains, no cough though. Pottered out of bed for a bit yesterday morning but had to go back soon after. Wheezy chest at night so i have been sleeping propped upright on a stack of pillows.

Mid 40s, double jabbed had covid in summer 14 days till I felt myself again. Dh 50s, jabbed about 7 days. Waiting for the results of my pcr, have same symptoms as last time, except higher temp, fingers crossed I've not got it again, dh is due his booster soon.

@Silkieschickens Sorry to hear you are so unwell. My GP has prescribed a Pulmicort Turbuhaler, which apparently is becoming a recognized treatment for more severe cases. Nothing to lose in asking for it.

Silkieschickens · 21/10/2021 19:36

Thanks Bookridden I actually managed at 4am to get seen in hospital today and put on a drip for 8 hours and lots of tests done for sepsis etc. Its basically covid plus long covid and a bacterial infection so have antibiotics and have to sit out the horrific d&v at home but was great to finally get some help. Our GP is refusing all covid patients saying 111 only.

Silkieschickens · 21/10/2021 19:54

Hope you feel better soon Bookridden Mine was 94/95 today so up on what they have been and hospital said fine, a lady by me was sent home at 91 though they told her to get up to 95.

Same story as you. Same symptoms. We are on day 10 here and have turned a corner but breathlessness and exausted. Was hoping to go back to work on Monday but don't think I'll rush back. Never slept so much.

Bookridden · 22/10/2021 08:46

@Silkieschickens Thank you. Luckily, I'm well on the mend. It sounds as if you have finally been given the treatment you need. What an utterly horrific experience you have had. Hopefully you begin to turn the corner today and begin the slow return to normal. Keep us informed. Having had my own very scary experience a fortnight ago, I'm proof you can pick up from this and I'm cheering on everyone fighting this bastard illness.

Silkieschickens · 23/10/2021 19:26

Thanks Bookridden Glad to hear you are better.

I'm late forties and double jabbed. I started to feel much better on around day 10/11 when the tiredness suddenly seemed to lift. I'm pretty much back to normal now, apart from having no sense of smell!

43 and double jabbed normal bmi good health normally. Feeling utterly terrible. Headaches, awful pain in sinuses making my whole face ache, tiredness, constant runny nose, sore throat, body aches . Paracetamol doesn’t seem to help with the headaches. Basically feels like the worst flu I’ve ever had. Can barely get out of bed.

mudlarks · 25/10/2021 09:21

48, BMI 26.1 and unfortunately I'm a lazy beggar who mostly gets her exercise via walking as part of my daily activities, though before Covid I was trying to factor in more reasons to walk further. Really wish I'd upped my fitness before getting this bastard, as I feel like an old crock right now!
Tested positive on my second PCR in two days, after DD2 identified as close contact (he tested positive on his first PCR) and my first PCR was 'inconclusive'. I had a mild case - no fever, barely any aches, headaches lasting about ten seconds, but a bit of a cough developed from about halfway through the initial ten days, sneezing a bit too. My main symptoms were feeling very tired, dizziness and eventually the cough.

But from about day 8 or so I started experiencing palpitations (eg where I'm very aware of my heartbeat, particularly at night) and bouts of racing heartbeat. That has got progressively worse and it's stopping me from getting to sleep. Last night I couldn't sleep until past 3. I'm exhausted now, but hard to tell if it's Covid or lack of sleep! The heartbeat stuff is really unpleasant and freaking me out, and I'm being called back by a GP this afternoon.

I'm now on day 14. Since I came out of isolation I've been to the local shops a couple of times and it made me feel quite tired, also light-headed. Yesterday I took DS in to our local big town to go to a single specific hobby shop and wondered if I was going to be able to get us home safely again, so that was probably a step too far. Hmm Half term has just started and I have DS2 on my hands. He's severely autistic and had already had a long while off school because of his own Covid (which was, thankfully, symptomless apart from sneezing and about one hour of moderately high temperature). He's already frustrated about the break in routine and I honestly don't know how I'm going to manage, feeling like this. DH has to be in work this week rather than WFH.
