If you are 40s and double jabbed but recently got Covid, how long did you take to get better?

Just that really. Me and dh both 40s. Both double jabbed with AZ since end May. Got Covid, now on day 10.

Suffered quite badly for 7-8 days and then both turned a corner. We are left with tiredness, minor residual cough and headache. Dh has lost smell/taste. The symptoms that we had before we improved were crippling tiredness, temperature, cold, cough, fuzzy head, headache, aching limbs.

If you have been ill like this, and are roughly similar in age, how long before you properly recovered?

Thanks for any answers. (It came from teenagers’ school for info!)

It took a while..I was back to work after the 14 days but reduced hours as still didn't have the energy. It's only now 4 weeks later I feel ok and energy back. Still can't smell a thing though which is very annoying xx

Wagsandclaws · 20/10/2021 19:01

I'd be interested to see the responses. I'm in day 9, today is the worst for my chest, it's sore and I haven't got much puff so to speak.

I'm 49, bmi of 26 and have type 2 diabetes and asthma, dh, dd29 and 2 ds's 12 and 9 are really getting better, me not so much. I'm on steroids and antibiotics so I'm hoping they will do the trick but I feel v weak and pretty crap truth be told.

Lost my taste and smell too which is most disconcerting.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 20/10/2021 19:04

I felt really rough for about four days. Day 9 of isolation now, and I am fully recovered. I'm 42 and have relapsing remitting MS but, luckily, I'm very healthy.

SinnyLou · 20/10/2021 19:08

I had 2 weeks off work but should have taken longer as went back in still exhausted. All in all it took 5-6 weeks to feel ok again and not as exhausted and short of breath. Don't know if going back to work too soon prolonged it? Hope you feel better soon

Jowak1 · 20/10/2021 19:15

I'm 43, double jabbed and no health issues. I was really poorly for about 2 days in bed then felt better on day 3/4 but just really tired. Each day till day 10 felt better just exhausted. Even after isolation ended I was shattered and am only now ( day 14 ) feeling less tired.

Bookridden · 20/10/2021 19:48

48, doubly jabbed, started with Covid 2.5 weeks ago. Felt very unwell and feverish for about 6 days. Lost over a stone in weight. Now feeling much better but struggling with breathlessness. Hard to get SATs over 95/96. I anticipate another week off work likely to be needed.

PermanentTemporary · 20/10/2021 19:52
  1. Had Covid for the second time a month ago. Vaccinated around Christmas. Quite ill for about a week then took another week to feel right (back at work for most of that). Then I got a really chappy cold so think I was still a bit rundown. Taste took a third week to come back.
Faircastle · 20/10/2021 19:52

Late 40s, high BMI, two doses of AZ vaccine.
Caught it at work (healthcare role in a school).

10 days of being ill, worse than a bad cold but able to manage symptoms at home.
Then 2 weeks of post-viral symptoms: breathlessness, pains in arms & legs, fatigue. These gradually improved but in week 3 I felt worse again for a few days.

It's now 4 weeks and I feel mostly back to normal. But very glad it's half term next week.

VeeringTowardsMuff1ns · 20/10/2021 19:58

I’m 40, CEV due to taking immunosuppressants, double jabbed with AZ in Jan/Apr and I caught it in school and only knew about it because I was doing LFTs 2x p/w. I had a headache, slight runny nose and sneezing and then a few days later my sense of smell pretty much disappeared but was back within a few days. I felt basically fine and in usual times would hardly have noticed it, let alone been off work for the best part of 2 weeks.

middleager · 20/10/2021 20:00

I'm 48, double jabbed, last dose June.
I caught Covid off teen 4 weeks ago. It knocked me about. Still is. I'm struggling with exhaustion, brain fog, headaches.

pearlsthatwerent · 20/10/2021 20:05

43, two doses of AZ in March/May, reasonably healthy, normal BMI. Caught COVID via DC at school (I think). Now on day 7; haven't been ill enough to stay in bed any day, but still fairly miserable: runny nose, loss of sense of smell, aches, nausea and constant headache. I started to pick up a bit on day 3/4, but it's been static since then - though I'm optimistic every morning that this will be the day!

Karwomannghia · 20/10/2021 20:11

Similar story here. 45 double Az, probably caught from teen, so tired, headache, feel sick, lost taste and smell for a while but that’s back. Mild cough. Feel ok ish in the morning and wiped out in afternoon. Terrible sciatic pain down one leg. Going back to work following end of isolation tomorrow hoping for the best.

OneToThree · 20/10/2021 20:26

Exactly the same details as you. 2 weeks and I felt better but another 2 weeks on from that I still haven’t got all my energy back and have got brain fog.

Tatum1234 · 20/10/2021 20:31

I’m 40, CEV and double jabbed with AZ. Today is day 12 and I’m pretty much back to normal, can be a little breathless and light headed but my worse symptom was a cough, have had worse colds. Feel very lucky.

Lougle · 20/10/2021 20:37

Early 40s, 2×Astra Zenica. Symptoms started on Saturday, mild cough. PCR negative on Saturday but aches and fever started on Sunday, so repeat PCR - not fit to drive so DH drove me to the test centre. Positive. Today I'm day 4 and feel ok as long as I don't move around. Haven't eaten much since Sunday evening - 2 dessert spoonfuls of casserole on Sunday evening, nothing on Monday, 2 dessert spoons of yoghurt and a jam sandwich yesterday, 2 dessert spoons of yoghurt and 4 crackers with cheese today. No appetite. Tea just tastes of warm liquid.

Djifunrsn · 20/10/2021 21:00

Thanks all. Generally it seems to drag on. At least my teen has recovered.

Early 40s. High BMI. Jabbed march/may. Currently on day 12/13. Still coughing a bit. Still quite breathless going upstairs. Antibs for Sinusitis, which I'm susceptible to anyway. Feeling in a bit of a mental fog.

Tiredout123 · 20/10/2021 21:11

Also no smell/taste

edisonbulb · 20/10/2021 21:13

41 double jabbed started with an awful sore theory a few days of aches. Justify finished the isolating period and feel exhilarating and brain foggy so haven't made it back to work yet. 40 year okd colleagues say they are still breathless 4 weeks on.

TheVampiresWife · 20/10/2021 21:13

I didn't get ill at all, thankfully. Had a few sneezing fits and a migraine a few days before I tested positive but I have migraines and allergies so very probably unconnected. I'm 49, BMI 38, have an autoimmune condition and am on immunosuppressant drugs so it was a huge relief to not become ill. DH was completely asymptomatic too but he's 37 and very slim with no health conditions. That said when we had covid last year pre-vaccines he was far more unwell than I was.

Whattodo121 · 20/10/2021 21:43

I’m 40, AZ double jabbed, asthmatic and overweight and am on day 5/6 of covid. Have completely lost my sense of smell and taste and feel completely wiped out. I made scrambled eggs for lunch and needed a sleep on the sofa after doing that and loading the dishwasher. I Had to order pizza this evening as I couldn’t face cooking and DH is at work. Couldn’t bloody taste it though! So it felt like a bit of a waste of calories 🤣 I haven’t had the high temp or the cough, but I feel bone tired and just plain viral and rough.

Silkieschickens · 21/10/2021 01:50

Started Sept 13th, still really ill.

confusedofengland · 21/10/2021 09:25

I'm 43 (44 tomorrow,in isolation 🙄). Tested positive on Saturday. Have only had mild symptoms all the way through. Extreme tiredness from Thursday, leading to dizziness, which I put down to starting a new job & not sleeping properly. Then developed stuffy head, slight cough & loss of smell & diminished taste. Also developed a few spots & ulcers like I do when run down. All that remains now is loss of smell. So 1 week total. I have not even had to take painkillers or any other medication/remedy, so really quite mild.

maudmadrigal · 21/10/2021 10:53

DH and I are mid-40s, both generally fit and healthy, though I have asthma.

Both ill, but 'with a bad cold' type ill with it. Tired, but both OK to WFH apart from one day when I had a fever as well. I had rash, mouth ulcers etc, both had awful cough.

Took us both around a month to feel fully fit again, I'd say. I'm completely fine now, two months on. DH is fine, apart from he has parosmia - he lost his sense of smell completely and it has come back 'all wrong', e.g. he finds the smell of onions completely nauseating, can't drink coffee, has to shower twice a day etc etc. It's quite common apparently, but also quite unpleasant and no indication of how long it will last.

VioletBick · 21/10/2021 11:03

I’m 42, double-jabbed (Pfizer). Initially not too poorly (headache, loss of taste/smell, fatigue), 4 weeks later now have horrific cough, extreme fatigue and palpitations.
