Covid after booster!

Just leaving this one here - now know of 3 people who have caught Covid after having their booster jab! 1 in 30’s, 2 in 40’s! All 3 never had covid before. Is this just showing us that people are going to get it regardless of if they are vaccinated.

The vaccine has been proven to reduce serious illness at population level. That’s a fact. Of course no one KNEW for sure if they themselves would have been unlucky enough to succumb to the worst of covid, as covid was a lottery in some respects.

Really unsure as to what is even being discussed here.

We all know that vaccines don’t stop you from catching and being able to transmit. I mean surely we all knew that right? Hmm

Fallagain · 20/10/2021 18:22

You know 3 people who caught covid 2 weeks after their 3 vaccination? I’m surprised you know so many when the program has only been in place 3 weeks.

Of course anyone can get covid but the vaccine reduced the risk of you catching it, being very ill and passing it on.

Like @Treblebass says this thread is but of a none story and I’m not sure what the point of it is.

SpringRainbow · 20/10/2021 18:23

The makers of these vaccine have only ever stated that it will reduce the severity of Covid.

They never suggested that it would prevent you from catching Covid.

There may be ‘some’ reduction of transmission, however you can still catch and spread Covid. However, the risk of you ending up in hospital or dying is reduced.

middleager · 20/10/2021 18:26

No one knows if they would have had it mild or not without the vaccine.

This.

The vaccine booster won’t be at it’s best for 2-3 weeks.

I had a colleague who had their first jab back in winter and 4 days later tested positive: they were already infected with covid when the were vaccinated.

I’ve been fully vaccinated and had a booster last week. I’ve worked with covid positive patients throughout, delta even more so and haven’t caught it despite being coughed over etc. I’ve been in restaurants/bars without a mask. I do believe it reduces the chances of catching it but it isn’t infallible and that reduces over time as research has shown.

With the cases as high as they are it is showing to be working with serious illness/death because without it thugs would be much worse. So it’s doing what it should in most people.

If anyone thinks this is not of interest to them - or a non story. You don’t actually need to respond! 😁

I just feel that the vaccines are barely stopping transmission at all! So then that obviously leads to the whole - why should those at practically no risk of getting seriously ill (kids) be vaccinated!? If the only protection is for yourself??

And one of the 3 who had it has quite bad cold/flu symptoms. And she is super fit and healthy!

Anecdotes are not data. Because you (weirdly) know three people who tested positive after their booster does not therefore mean the vaccines aren't reducing transmission.
But this now looks suspiciously like yet another anti vax thread dressed up as "oh, but I don't understand why people are still catching it" so I'm out.

@Anothermuddywalk
Oh please!
I love how people on this forum think that posters make up numbers or facts if they don’t like what is being written. But that’s your prerogative. I have been on here long enough for it be known that I am not some sh£t stirrer.
I am not anti vax for adults! I have had both my jabs even though I didn’t want to.
I do openly admit, and have on previous threads, that I don’t see the point in children having them! And life should not become more difficult for kids just because they haven’t had this jab that barely stops transmission!

So the percentage of adults in England testing positive for Covid antibodies is at 93.6% as of 8th Oct 2021. Source: ONS
www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19latestinsights/antibodies

Despite this the level of cases is nearly double the number for this time last year when no one has been vaccinated. Source :BBC
www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58954793.amp

Yet the same BBC article shows that hospitalisation rates and death rates are much lower than when the number of cases were this high.

IMO this would suggest that the vaccine or natural antibodies are not that effective against either catching or spreading the virus but that the vaccine is effective at reducing the severity of infection leading to lower hospitalisation rates and death.

Alternatively as devils advocate one could argue that the reason the death rate is lower is that those who were most at risk of dying from Covid (the old and medically vulnerable) have already died from Covid. And the reason that hospitalisation rates are lower is that people are less panicked about contracting Covid or reluctant to go to hospital so are more inclined to recover at home than go to hospital. I am not to yet inclined to believe this argument without further evidence but we will have a clearer view once writer is over.
