Covid after booster!

34 replies

SoOvethis · 20/10/2021 14:00

Just leaving this one here - now know of 3 people who have caught Covid after having their booster jab! 1 in 30’s, 2 in 40’s! All 3 never had covid before. Is this just showing us that people are going to get it regardless of if they are vaccinated.

I've been double vaccinated, so have my husband and daughter. We have all had Covid over the past fortnight. We were very, very mildly ill. I am extremely grateful that I had the vaccines as the evidence shows I would have felt much worse without them.

PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2021 14:04

Do you mean booster or second jab?

polkadotpixie · 20/10/2021 14:09

I tested positive for COVID 3 days after my booster jab. I've been mildly under the weather (headache, snotty nose and loss of sense of smell) but have WFH throughout and been absolutely fine...I'm glad the jab has done what it's supposed to do and stop me getting seriously ill

Sahara123 · 20/10/2021 14:10

It has never been said that vaccination stops you getting COVID, but lowers the chance of infection, and if you do get it you are likely to have milder symptoms.

Mindymomo · 20/10/2021 14:10

But has the booster vaccine stopped them being very ill or needing to be hospitalised?

bizarrustii · 20/10/2021 14:10

I think you mean 2nd dose as the booster programme only started up 3weeks ago OP.

Coldpressed · 20/10/2021 14:13

Lmao. We're being taken for fools.

Coldpressed · 20/10/2021 14:13

Loads of young NHS and social care staff have been boosted
Treblebass · 20/10/2021 14:18

I’m sorry this isn’t news. Did no one tell you you can still catch covid after vaccination? They’re very unlikely to be severely ill.

This isn’t news.

bizarrustii · 20/10/2021 14:22

@Coldpressed
Yes I know that being a HCP myself 🙄, the boosters started to be offered by Trusts 3 weeks ago.

SoOvethis · 20/10/2021 15:24

Yes they work in healthcare!
And I mean 3rd jab, not second….
You would think having 3 jabs might mean it’s very unlikely you will even catch it no!??

@Mindymomo Btw - I know of at least 50 people who had it pre vaccine - nobody ended up in hospital, the majority were mildly ill. I was actually one of the more poorly ones out of everyone I know.

So how can you tell me that the person who caught Covid post vaccination wouldn’t have been fine prior to vaccination. That’s you guessing - nobody knows that for a fact as you can’t actually test the theory on the same person!

OP posts:
Giveaschitt · 20/10/2021 15:36

You are much less likely to catch it after being vaccinated, but its not 100% effective, no vaccine is. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1025358/Vaccine-surveillance-report-week-41.pdf
Page 7 of this shows the %age effectiveness, and its pretty impressive, but its not 100%. Some people will still catch it even after they've been vaccinated and given a booster.

Treblebass · 20/10/2021 15:38

If you can catch if after the second vax what makes you think you can’t after a booster?

Like I said, not even news. No one cares if people have essentially caught a cold after a booster. They haven’t been seriously unwell and the booster is just a tokenistic gesture from the government to be seen to be doing something. There’s plenty of evidence to suggest a booster isn’t even that necessary unless you are seriously CEV.

ItsAlwaysThere · 20/10/2021 15:39

But we know this though. The vaccine helps to give milder symptoms.

Riggsisadino · 20/10/2021 15:40

The Covid vaccine reduces your chances of getting it and if you do it's more likely to be mild. When I first got it early in the pandemic I almost ended up in icu I got it a few weeks ago and didn't even know before it picked up on a PCR it made a massive difference

iwishiwasafish · 20/10/2021 15:41

How on earth did you not know this Hmm

It lessens the risk of severe illness. That’s still worthwhile.

SoOvethis · 20/10/2021 17:07

@Riggsisadino

And you don’t think the fact you had natural immunity from your first infection had anything to do with the fact that the second time you got it it was less severe!?
You think it’s only down to the vaccine?

OP posts:
Riggsisadino · 20/10/2021 17:08

Yep. I have a weakened immune system. My hody wouldn't have built such a good immune response no way

SoOvethis · 20/10/2021 17:09

@iwishiwasafish
Would one not think that it would make it less likely!? Surely that not a totally whacky thought 🤯
And this is only after the booster has been out for a few weeks.

Again, who is to say that they wouldn’t have been fine after just one/two vaccines or none at all.

As I said earlier you can’t prove how sick someone would have been without the vaccine if they have already had it. And likewise you can’t prove that the vaccine made it milder if you have already had covid.

OP posts:
iwishiwasafish · 20/10/2021 17:56

@SoOvethis

Yes, you can. Control groups and statistics.

ILookAtTheFloor · 20/10/2021 17:58

I think there is something in the theory that the vaccine, whichever dose, results in an immune drop which means you're more likely to pick up covid or another infection, for two weeks after the jab before protectiok kicks in.

Whose theory is this?
Foghead · 20/10/2021 18:01

I think everyone will get it sooner or later. Hopefully, milder but immunity will probably be enhanced for those who are vaccinated after they have actually got covid. That’s when we’re likely to come out of it.
That’s why I think natural immunity shouldn’t be ignored.

Bellabelloo · 20/10/2021 18:02

How poorly did they get?

Foghead · 20/10/2021 18:09

I agree with you op - I know lots of people who’ve had covid. It ripped right through dcs secondary school and our whole area. We all had it fairly mildly. The only people I know who had to be hospitalised were those with comorbidities or some very elderly. Many of them had it mild too including my friends in laws in their late 70’s. No one knows if they would have had it mild or not without the vaccine.
