Curious about what happens re info in school outbreak

Our primary school (so 4 - 13 year olds) has just had its first confirmed Covid case. Got a message Monday evening that there was a case. But no information on what class it was in. It’s a very small school so it wasn’t long until it was known.

Then yesterday evening another message saying there were 2 further cases - again no information on what class and that message said there would be no more messages on cases.

So I’m just curious what other schools so about information.

Nothing at all from the school since September (Secondary)

toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 08:38

Schools don’t have to give any information unless advised to send a warn and inform letter

Plumbear2 · 20/10/2021 09:01

Nothing in my son's secondary. I only know about cases that my son knows about but nothing from the school.

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 20/10/2021 09:01

There is no contact tracing done in schools anymore……

ihavenoidea20 · 20/10/2021 09:07

My daughters school have been telling us when there's been a positive case in her class. It very quickly got out of control though in the last week and my daughters class had to close yesterday, several kids positive and teachers off ill with it, staff shortages all over the school because of sickness so no one to cover classes. They've also asked all pupils in her year to have a PCR.

antsinyourpanta · 20/10/2021 09:09

Nothing from my DC secondary school. There are about 15 cases that DD knows about in her year...

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/10/2021 09:10

If its a case in one of my children's classes we get told that they are a 'low contact' and are advised to do a LFT and keep an eye out for symptoms.

If its a case in the wider school we just get a 'warn and inform' letter which again pretty much just says LFT and watch out.

Bopahula · 20/10/2021 09:12

My daughters class (yr4) had two positives and we were recommended to LFT them. By Friday 8 had Covid and the following Monday 12 (including my daughter) had it. We didn't get told the numbers. Just they were moving to a mix of home schooling and in class due to the numbers at home and recommended PCR tests for the whole class.
We only got the figures from the class WhatsApp group and parents sharing information.
Thankfully all kids fine, mine had a runny nose, some had a cough, but all well in themselves and back at school well before half term.

HSHorror · 20/10/2021 09:14

School arent telling us after saying in sept there were loadsof y6.
I know there are.cases through friends (3 kids) and cases as scouts and guides are telling us

MrsMariaReynolds · 20/10/2021 09:33

Nothing. If infections reach a certain benchmark, they'll send out the usual canned message that they are following advice of local public health authorities and have stepped up hygiene measures, encouraged staff back into masks, etc and are "keeping an eye" on things. But realistically, nothing will change.

PrpleRain · 20/10/2021 09:38

There are currently 6 confirmed cases in my DS’s class (Y2). They obviously need to self isolate but the rest of the class is in a school.

Maryann1975 · 20/10/2021 09:41

As @MrsMariaReynolds says. Our secondary school have said very little about positive cases until this week when we found out that cases were so high they sent the whole year group for pcr tests to try to get it under control. Have heard nothing from any of the other school years (other children at the same school).
No mention of masks/bubbles (although they were a bit ridiculous when there were 250 dc in the bubble) or any other measures to control the spread, but realistically I’m not sure what else they could do?

Molehillfromamountain · 20/10/2021 09:42

We get an email addressed to the parents of Class 2 with a document from Test, Trace and Protect team attached. All children in the class are identified as close contacts and a PCR test is recommended on Day 2 and 8.
We don't hear about cases in other classes unless it's from other parents.

We are a small school in Wales.

Kiduknot · 20/10/2021 09:47

There is massive secrecy in our school. Staff aren’t even told when there are cases in their class.

toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 10:12

I suppose it is medical and therefore personal info @Kiduknot

ifonly4 · 20/10/2021 10:22

Ten notified cases in school at weekend. Business as usual, but please do LFT tests and keep any ill children off, not mentioning Covid symptoms. Two thirds of a class off yesterday, which is a bit concerning. Primary.

Tinysnickers · 20/10/2021 11:19

Mine are primary. We hear nothing except we got the warn and inform letter when one class bad 3 cases. But I'm pretty sure school is full of it now because of the negative pcrs scandal (we're south west) and we've heard nothing.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/10/2021 12:02

my child has tested positive today. after I informed the school they sent out a class message, which suggested that people may wish to get a PCR test but can attend school as normal.

I have separately texted the parents of the eight kids that were in my house this weekend, as it seemed like the right thing to do, even though there's no requirement for those kids to test or isolate.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 12:06

Fuck all. Despite both schools agreeing to let me know about cases (immunosupressed) there have been many cases in their years and I've had one warn and inform letter.

Springhere · 20/10/2021 12:08

Schools are dealing with this differently. The primary school I work in lets parents know when there is a case in their class. My daughters' primary hasn't informed us about cases. I wish they were more forthcoming so that we could make informed choices (e.g. about seeing vulnerable family members).

WhathaveIdoneagain · 20/10/2021 12:09

We get a breakdown of cases by year groups every week. There is a serious outbreak in the schol though.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 13:00

We're having a massive outbreak and still nothing.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 20/10/2021 13:11

I've got 5 dc. 4 in primary, 1 in secondary. We get an email advising a PCR test whenever there is a positive case in their class/on the bus. From both primary & secondary. Secondary send us an email weekly telling us how many total cases per year group & reminding us to keep up with twice weekly LFDs.

NothingIsWrong · 20/10/2021 13:41

I have heard nothing from either primary or secondary. No idea if there are cases or not. I can't and won't stop sending them unless they themselves are positive, so what's the point in knowing every single in and out?

Jobsharenightmare · 20/10/2021 13:53

Step children's secondary is regularly saying which year group and class have cases and asking people to test regularly and keep kids off with symptoms whilst awaiting PCR.
