People who were vaccinated early but not eligible for booster

We were lucky enough to get the vaccine early through work (SEN school) and I was double jabbed by April whereas if I’d waited for my age group it would have been August.

But now boosters are only being offered to frontline care staff so we won’t get one.

Assuming vaccine immunity lasts around 6 months that leaves us a lot less protected than the rest of the population over winter.

I’m not overly bothered as I’m not vulnerable but would like the same level of protection as people my age, especially as the reason for getting the vaccine early in the first place (working with vulnerable children) still applies.

I'm SEN staff but my county council deemed us not eligible for the vaccine earlier this year. So i had to wait but managed to get my first in late March when I took a vulnerable family member to be done. My second jab was June so my six months are up around Christmas. I doubt I'll be eligible for a booster. Just keep my fingers crossed none of my kids pass it on to me at school in the new year!

We were jabbing staff in an SEN school yesterday that were over 6 months.

I hope you get 3rd booster.
Will school cases so high baffles me why they won't offer teachers the booster.

I'm not in an SEN school, that's the problem. SEN teacher working closely with pupils and unable to wear a mask when communicating with them, but because they're in a base attached to a mainstream school, we weren't considered eligible.

I’m 7 months from the vaccine because I worked in an eligible job and then left. Under 50 so it will be months until I’m eligible.

Why don’t govt just open boosters for all eligible people? Get the willing ones done first. They keep saying take up is too low but their criteria are too strict - and those of us with teens or children are desperate for protection!

The booster roll out is really disorganised!!

The initial vaccine rollout made sense and felt you knew where you were in the line… this time no one has a clue!! If you had it six months ago get the booster? But there seems to be rules - why we can’t just go with the six months ago it’s your turn…

I’m in one of the groups so six months later would be due in December if I’m allowed it..I’ve no idea if I need to book it? Phone them? Online?

Sorry but it seems like you're moaning a bit that you are less protected now than other people your age, how did you think other people your age felt when you got the vaccine early and they were told they had to wait until everyone else had it first!

Pleasenomoreglitter · 21/10/2021 08:26

Well I've decided to just book one under social care worker and see what happens when I turn up. I'm over the six months, they deemed me eligible the first time and my job hasn't changed since then. I'm getting a letter from my employer to say as much in case they ask for proof. It does seem ridiculous though that they go on tv last night saying take up isn't enough and then put barriers in place to some of us who are willing to have it and were deemed eligible back at the start of the year!

Well I’d imagine they felt glad that the vulnerable kids I worked with had staff who were less likely to pass it on to them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just thought I'd update. I decided to just book in as a social care worker as that's what I'd been classed as the first time. I was asked once so they could tick a box on the system, but no proof was requested (although I had a letter from my head teacher in my bag in case). Booster done. It was a busy mass vaccine centre and I was on,y one amongst lots that looked under 50.
