Anyone else shocked about how ill they felt with covid?

Hey all

I tested postive last weekend.
I have been shocked how poorly covid made.
Being sick.
Stomach pains.
Nausea.
Whole body aches.
Fever.
Tiredness oh so tired.....
Runny nose
Headache
Cough
Lost of taste
Sore eyes

OK, so I'm no marathon runner but I'm mid 40s and no other medical conditions.
Healthy weight. Fairly active.

I suppose I was stupid to think I'd just bat this off like a mild cold.

I had it this time last year before vaccinations were available. I was very, very ill. I was hospitalized for 2.5 weeks and I think I had every symptom going. The worst part was that I was exhausted just trying to breath, I mean so bad at times I thought I just didn't have the energy to take another breath. A year later I'm suffering so many after effects that I'm basically disabled. My life has been devastated by covid.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 22/10/2021 20:18

Tested positive about 3 weeks ago. Surprised how poorly I felt from about day 3-6 then how tired I was even when I started feeling better and had a lingering headache

Also now another week later surprised how quickly I'm feeling back to normal other probably a bit more tired than normal. I work in a school though and it's the Friday of half term and I'd be pretty done in anyway!

I know this isn't everyone's experience but just wanted to share. A week ago I couldn't imagine feeling normal but have improved loads the last few days.

NeedSleepNow · 22/10/2021 22:43

I was terrified of covid previously but aafter being double vaccinated I started to relax a bit and believe that it would just be mild, like a cold. I caught it from my son who thankfully had it mildly but I have felt terrible. I have had the worst sore throat and headache of my life, muscle aches, temperature, chills, ringing in my ears, cough, my eyes ears and nose sting, dizziness, nausea, loss of smell and taste extreme exhausion. The only constants have been the headache and sore throat which I have had now for 12 days, the rest of the symptoms change throughout the day.

I just want to sleep for a month but am a single mum to 3 kids so have had to look after them whilst feeling like this, and they have been home the whole time as we all caught it. It has been horrible and I still feel awful.

@InexperiencedDogOwner

It's weird how people are feeling worse since vaccination. Those who had it last year didn't find it so bad but this year after the vax they feel worse. Is it because it's the delta variant or the vaccine makes you more ill? How can anyone prove they would have been worse without it?!
Lots that had it last year died. This year you say people are more ill yet less are dying from covid despite more having it.

Of course the anti vax lot will look for lots of reasons to slightly point the finger at the vaccine. It's what they do Grin

madmomma · 31/10/2021 01:37

tiddle would you be able to share your supplement regime please? Or point me in a helpful direction for info on it? Thanks.

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 31/10/2021 07:23

I had it last Christmas after my son caught it at school. Completely took me by surprise how sick it made me!
Splitting headache, Cough, Temperature, Extreme fatigue, Constant thirst, pains in legs. Thought I was turning a corner on day 7 then along came the breathlessness which was really scary. Took weeks to recover, awful virus. Weird how it effects everyone so differently

TiddleTaddleTat · 31/10/2021 09:59

@madmomma there's some info on it here
covid.joinzoe.com/post/long-covid-diet-nutrition

If you look up Gez Medinger and Dr Tina Peers you will hear more. All anecdotal and based on experience with little research having taken place yet.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 31/10/2021 10:03

I haven’t had it yet, touchwood.
Both my dad and brother have though and been very poorly. My dad has just been discharged from hospital after a 5 day stay requiring oxygen as he was so unwell. They’re both double jabbed too, one 30s one 60s so not mega old.

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 31/10/2021 10:07

I've had it twice before the jab and both were horrendous especially at night and a headache you just can't shift

MabelMoo23 · 31/10/2021 11:22

I’m currently on day 4 and feel so unwell

I’m 45, double vaccinated, no underlying issues

My symptoms are

Painful chest
Breathlessness
Cough
Aching body
Sinus pain / runny nose
Blinding headache
Sore red eyes
Exhaustion
Earache
Nausea
Dizziness

I feel horrific. I also believed the “just like a cold” and it’s total bullshit

I can’t believe how ill I feel - plus also after 2 kids, my pelvic floor is shot to shit, so every time I cough, I pee myself so have to drag myself to the loo, and it’s not an understatement to say I can barely manage it

StitchInLime · 31/10/2021 13:44

I was surprised at how mild it was. Same for the friends and family who caught it too. Slight sniffles, headache then that was it. The children we know were totally symptomless, so bizarre. I do wonder if it depends on variant and viral load. Of all the people I’ve know to have it since it began circulating, none have had more than what a normal cold would feel like.

Fr0thandBubble · 31/10/2021 13:46

Day 17 here; I'm much better than I was but very weak and still have a bad cough.

I'm early 40s, double-jabbed, slim, fit and I eat really healthily. I'm hardly ever ill. I'm one of those people who thought Covid was all blown out of proportion and that unless you were old or overweight or had underlying health conditions, it would be like a bad cold. Well, I was very wrong.

This is the illest I have ever been in my life. Temperature of 40 degrees for days on end, the worst headache I have ever had, back ache, nausea, chills, sinus pain, chest tightness, hacking cough, eye pain, loss of taste and smell - the works. I have completely lost my appetite and have lost 10 pounds; I look skeletal. I have to force myself to eat.

The weird thing is that DH is CEV and it pretty much was just like a bad cold for him! It's a very weird virus and there seems to be little way of knowing who will be badly affected.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 31/10/2021 15:08

I am on day 7.

It has been far milder than I feared. I had a seriously terrible cold in September that knocked me out of sorts for nearly a month. So far, although I’m moderately unwell with it, Covid has been much less bad.

I am late forties, double jabbed with AZ, overweight. I was very worried about faring badly.

It really does seem to be an absolute lottery.

MabelMoo23 · 31/10/2021 20:09

I’ve started being sick now as well

I feel utterly horrific. It’s only day 4

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 01/11/2021 19:28

Sorry to hear that MabelMoo23
Hope you start to feel better soon.

I wrote this last week and I am still breathless, being sick nightly from coughing, nauseous, groggy, no sense of smell or taste and so so tired.

mrsnoname · 01/11/2021 21:37

I'd really like to know how so many people in their 30s/40s can feel so ill with covid especially having been double jabbed. I haven't yet taken any vaccines for it and my symptoms (temperature, body ache, some headache and a little bit of coughing) were over in 4 days and was ready to go back to work way before my 10 day isolation was up, but of course couldn't. My unjabbed teenagers barely had any symptoms. We did, however, work on our general health in the run up to getting ill pretty much since the first lockdown and carried on taking the necessary vitamins and supplements during the illness... judging by what double jabbed work colleagues, friends and family say about getting ill and all the stories here I, so far, feel that I made the right choice by not getting vaccinated.

HelenaJustina · 01/11/2021 21:40

I’m late 30s, double vaxxed and currently on Day 6. Felt really rough on Day 2, proper flu type rough, achy, shivering, sweats, temp, headache. But picked up from Day 3 onwards. Only symptoms now are lack of taste and smell.

LemonWeb · 01/11/2021 21:42

I felt very ill. It surprised me how bad.

Arbitan · 01/11/2021 21:43

I had the opposite - I was shocked at how not-ill I was. 10 days and all I had was what felt like the start of a cold on one day, then fine the following. No idea why I got off lightly.

Wizzbangfizz · 01/11/2021 21:44

I'm mid 40s, fat, not the healthiest - I tested positive after losing sense of smell. Was more tired than usual for a couple of a days but that was it. The bug I had that wasn't COVID back in September after the kids went back was far far worse. PCR taken both times I was ill.

I suspect a lot of the difference will be in the initial viral dose people receive - less viral dose = less severe illness. Higher viral dose = more severe disease.
theemperorhasnoclothes · 01/11/2021 21:49

If someone sneezed directly in your face, you'd expect it'd be more likely you'd catch their cold / covid / whatever than if you merely spent some time in the same room.

Mybalconyiscracking · 01/11/2021 21:51

I was fine with Covid, rather have that than the bastard virus I’ve been trying to shake off for three weeks now.

Thewiseoneincognito · 01/11/2021 21:54

It was a feeling of being ill like I’d never had before. Considering I’m fit and healthy and I had it ‘mild’ it was still pretty horrendous. At one stage I felt like I was suffocating, absolutely not something you would want to experience if you had underlying health issues. The loss of taste and smell was VERY unnerving to say the least because it’s like your brain has forgotten what to do. The cough again was horrible and the sense of a foggy head was not like I’d ever experienced before.
