To have or not to have (a vaccine)?

Hi, so far, have avoided covid vaccine or covid itself. DH works with public (not health care), he is fully vaccinated, we have 2 DCs, going to 2 different schools, I work from home.
After couple of people I knew died from covid within 2 days, I got really scared and booked myself for vaccination. It's tomorrow and I am petrified. I am not antivax, I am just really really scared of getting clots, dying and leaving my DCs.
Please, give me positive stories from your own experiences.

I don't personally know anyone who has had serious side effects from the vaccine. My dd (17) and ds (15) have even had their 1st doses with only a sore arm as a side effect.

Which one will you get?

InMySpareTime · 12/10/2021 17:49

If you're trying to avoid clots, the vaccine is safer than catching the virus.
You'll be fine.

Fizbosshoes · 12/10/2021 17:50

Ds (12) had the vaccine at school last week. He said he would rather have that again that do the twice weekly covid tests!

I have known several people to feel unwell for maybe 24 hours after the vaccine but all were fine after a day or 2. I didn't have any side effects apart from feeling a bit tired the next day.

scochran · 12/10/2021 17:53

I know only of a few sore arms and headaches from jab but a few with long covid that is really messing with their lives, work and family. I couldn't not get the vaccine

Shelddd · 12/10/2021 18:03

I'm not some militant pro vaxxer like some on this board but I really wouldn't worry if I were you.

You're more likely to get in a car accident and die tomorrow than you are to get a blood clot and die from the vaccine. I'm sure you are not panicking every time you get in the car are you?

Haffiana · 12/10/2021 18:12

Every. single. person on this board didn't die from the vaccine.

Does that help?

reallyscaredof · 12/10/2021 18:31

Thanks, Everyone ❤️ I think I will get it...if will not chicken-out tomorrow 😳

@reallyscaredof I’m just like you- I’m scared of this vaccine and scared of Covid.

9 weeks back I managed to get my first dose- I was crying throughout but managed it

It was Pfizer and didn’t have severe side effects/ arm pain snd tired.

I’m planning to get my second tomorrow- I’m pretty much feeling the same, I’m still scared of this vaccine and scared of Covid- and with the second dose there is the heart inflammation etc to look forward to as well…

I hope I don’t chicken out but I totally understand where you are.

The vaccinators are quiet understanding-!so don’t feel bad about being anxious

ThePoint678 · 12/10/2021 18:49

If you’re scared of dying, get the vaccine ASAP. Simple.

Kb2942 · 12/10/2021 18:51

Problem is you could catch covid and it could give you a clot too. If it helps, I don't know a single person who's had a bad reaction to jab!

pompomsgalore · 13/10/2021 09:23

My friend and husband actually have a clot and still were advised to have the jab and
So they did. Everyone is fine months and months later. Good luck OP

Confused10101 · 13/10/2021 09:39

@reallyscaredof hope you are ok? I’ve not booked as cannot go ahead with the pressure so it’ll be a walk-in in later- I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go ahead but will try…I still don’t want it though…

Onegingerhead · 13/10/2021 10:04

I haven’t had my vaccine yet purely because I really, really don’t want the AZ one (and I’d be given that, ‘cos I’m 42). I also had COVID in August and it was super mild despite obviously being delta that was reported somehow more dangerous than the original variant.
I don’t know what to do now if they do bring vaccine passport. Any tips on how to get Pfizer?

CatAlice · 13/10/2021 13:11

Clots are a big risk with covid. I was in hospital with covid and given anti coagulant injections to prevent potential clots.
Lots of places doing Pfizer because of the younger age group.
Just go to a walk in and ask if you can have pfizer or moderna. They can only say no.

reallyscaredof · 13/10/2021 16:45

Had my Pfizer at 10:30am this morning. Still alive and kicking! Felt very tired suddenly an hour ago- just an excuse not to do any housework or cooking tonight, I think 🙈

Well done!

Djifunrsn · 13/10/2021 16:57

Well done. Essentially now there are 2 choices:

  1. get vaccinated
  2. get Covid

It is everywhere, absolutely rioting through schools, workplaces and all sorts of places.

greensnail · 13/10/2021 17:02

@Onegingerhead you're most likely to get Pfizer wherever you go now. Very few sites are offering the AZ anymore.
This website lets you search for walk in clinics in your area and tells you which vaccines they have available, so you can choose one that doesn't offer AZ and go there.

Well done OP. Takeaway tonight Grin
AlexaShutUp · 13/10/2021 17:07

Well done, OP.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/10/2021 17:08

Well done you. Put your feet up and read a book/Mumsnet to your heart’s content. I felt pretty ropy for a day or two after all of mine, but that was a minor inconvenience for all the protection it gives us.

PurpleDaisies · 13/10/2021 17:09

Excellent! It felt like shit the next day but was five after that. My arm ached for a couple of days.

Onegingerhead · 13/10/2021 17:15

@greensnail it’s very helpful, cheers! ☺️

Cornettoninja · 13/10/2021 17:19

Well done, you’ve definitely reduced your risk of complications if you contract covid for not much risk from the vaccine.

I had pfizer and although the milder side effects can be prominent they dissipate fairly quickly, or did in my case and those I know who had it. One or two days I’d say. I also subscribe to the theory that after so long with minimal bugs floating about and the expecting side effects it feels worse than it is. Usually you’d clear off to bed early and think no more about it.

OttilieStonelady · 13/10/2021 17:26

I live with a GP. Their area has given thousands upon thousands of vaccines and they don't have one report of a serious life threatening side effect.
