I think I have covid and my wedding is two weeks tomorrow

Just here for a rant and a hand hold really. Can’t actually believe this is happening. Sore throat started this morning, temp just now 100.5 and coughing has started up too.

We’ve had several positive lateral flows at work which then led to negative PCRs, so people with symptoms have been coming back in thinking they don’t have it but we now think possibly they do( I’m in the SW where this has been an issue recently).

If I do have it, I’d be out of isolation by the wedding, but DP or DD could get it later on so everything would be called off anyway. Tbh I’m more concerned about everyone being ok, I spent the afternoon with my mum and elderly aunt yesterday- both fully vaccinated but still a worry!

We’ve been so careful since the start as I was pregnant for a lot of it, but at the last second it’s all gone wrong 😩 so depressing. I’m trying to be thankful for everyone still being healthy but we can’t afford to do this wedding again so I’m a bit sad.

I know someone who caught covid. From the moment she had symptoms, all the family constantly wore masks, tried to distance and were on top of constant cleaning, washing hands, airing rooms. Has to be worth a try.

sachaf08 · 09/10/2021 10:08

@starfish4 I've thrown the patio doors wide open (just need to keep 9 month old from escapingGrin)

We are in the SW and my son has just recovered. He was very sensible and text us from his bedroom the moment he felt unwell. He was able to wear a N99 mask when leaving his room to use the bathroom and none else at all caught it from him.

He had done a lateral flow test the evening before and it was negative. Once he started to feel poorly we did another one and it was positive 12 hours later.

Get your pcr test and use a proper n99 mask when you leave your isolation. Then you can't spread this if it is covid and others will be safe.

These are the masks:

www.ukmeds.co.uk/hygiene-face-mask-ffp3-n99

The tests (lateral flow) are showing clear positive results in the SW but there is an issue with pcr tests being negative. If you can, test with lateral flow, get a pcr back up but don't rely on a negative pcr result.

We tested twice a day using lateral flow tests whilst my son was covid positive so we could take precautions if we became infected.

lawofdistraction · 09/10/2021 12:52

That's an obvious positive sorry OP. OK so good news is you will be out of isolation by the wedding...you need to focus on your DP not catching it now! I know it may sound extreme but can he stay somewhere else until the wedding?

baggies · 09/10/2021 12:58

My son had it quite badly ( adult) and lives at home. My husband and I are double jabbed and didn't catch it. Make sure your partner at least sleeps in different room to you. He should leave meals outside your door. Make sure you have separate towels and keep anti bac spray and hand wash handy. Door handles, light switches clean regularly. Keep washing your hands and wear a mask anywhere near him. Hope you feel better soon Thanks

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/10/2021 13:03

Why is this an issue in the sw?

I have heard of this recently. An adult had positive LFT and negative PCR x3. Assumed all was well and went to work. Why is this a SW issue. Something odd in the lab?

SmileySandwich · 09/10/2021 16:29

Something very odd going on with the tests round here. I know a couple of people who have had positive LFTs then negative PCR so just going around like normal! They need to tell us what to do officially or it's going to spread.

Cruiser11 · 09/10/2021 16:33

Your LFT looks like COVID. If this helps I tested positive 2 weeks ago and felt really poorly. I was back to feeling my old self by day 11.

alreadytaken · 09/10/2021 17:19

Do you have an oximeter to monitor your oxygen levels? Worth keeping an eye on them and if staying below 94 get medical advice. Hopefully you and your partner are fully vaccinated.

If you have or can get vitamin D tablets take some - 50mcg a day will be fine while ill. Illness depletes it and small scale studies suggest a supplement improves outcomes. Eat as healthily as you can but get some simple food ready, even if it is canned food, in case you dont feel like making anything.

Wear a mask when near your partner and child if they cant stay anywhere else.

DaxtheDestroyer · 09/10/2021 17:27

We're one of the households in the sw going through the +ve LFT/-ve PCR cycle. My DC has had several positive tests over the last couple of weeks and several negative PCRs. We've finally got a positive PCR on a postal test today, which we ordered because I'd heard the same stories about the PCR problems and that people seem to be testing +ve on postal ones rather than drive-in ones.
So sorry OP, it does sound very like you have it. I hope you can get through it before the wedding.

Oh dear, that's not looking good. I hope you're not feeling too awful xx

Really interesting that the positive came on the postal test - which presumably wouldn't go to a SW lab?

OP I have everything crossed for you that if it is COVID then nobody else gets it and the wedding can still go ahead. Can you chat with your partner about when you will make the final decision and if there is a minimum time to cancel in terms of being able to claim money back etc? Just wonder if it will help you feel slightly more in control of the situation if you can talk about and make these decisions now?

sachaf08 · 09/10/2021 21:49

@alreadytaken yes we do have an oximeter, it’s staying around 98/99 atm which is reassuring! We are fully vaccinated and I’m taking vitamin D every day which will hopefully help 🤞thanks for your advice

@DaxtheDestroyer that’s interesting- I think I will just assume covid and stay at home for the ten days even if my result is negative. Hope your DC is ok.

@MegaGengar thank you 😊 I think we will just wait to see if/when he gets symptoms, if he gets it by Wednesday we have enough time to get him over it too. I will probably contact our suppliers and explain what’s going on in the meantime. We’re doing a marquee/DIY wedding so I’m hoping if at least some of them are reasonable about it we can scrape together enough to postpone again. I would happily meet them halfway if necessary because I know how hard things have been for wedding businesses.

Thanks so much everyone for the well wishes and advice. I’m not feeling too bad right now, temp has come down a bit but cough is picking up. If it doesn’t get much worse than this I’ll consider myself lucky.

Sadly DP can’t really distance as we only have one bed, and the only place he could go and stay is his parents house but of course we want to keep them safe. Also wouldn’t be ideal leaving me with DD if I get really poorly. It’s difficult but I think we just have to hunker down for a bit.

I’m a bit concerned about the fact that his work will probably expect him in on Monday even if my result is positive. He’s going to phone them to discuss 😬

Update 2- PCR negative. I received the email at 3am when I woke up with a fever of 101. Have spoken to my cousin who is a doctor, she confirmed that it’s definitely covid if you’ve had positive lateral flows plus symptoms. Two other people at my workplace had positive lateral flows/ negative pcrs today and I think at least one of them has gone in Confused they really need to sort this pcr test issue ASAP!

Bobholll · 10/10/2021 15:24

Weird 😬

Your hubby can go to work regardless. I’m currently positive & my kids are back to school & nursery tomorrow following negative PCRs! 🤷🏼‍♀️ To be honest, I’m glad. My DD had so many 10 day isolations last term & was never ill. It was madness. On balance, these rules are far far better for her education!

I’m curious - why do use farenheight for your temp readings? Are you in the U.K.?

Cazzovuoi · 10/10/2021 15:29

Totally off topic but why on earth are you using fahrenheit? It's a stupid, illogical and outdated form of measurement that no forward thinking, progressive country uses. Grin Rag "newspapers" usually use it for sensationalist headlines to exaggerate heatwaves and such.

But I do hope that you recover well and the wedding goes ahead.

sachaf08 · 10/10/2021 15:35

@Cazzovuoi because that’s what my thermometer is set to? Confused and that’s what the NHS covid guidance I looked at used as well. Sorry if that offends, I probably am feeling a bit ‘stupid’ and ‘illogical’ at the moment.

OP posts:
sachaf08 · 10/10/2021 15:37

@Bobholll yes he probably will go to work unless he has symptoms or they tell him otherwise.
Regarding the fahrenheit, didn’t realise IWBU but I am in the UK, that’s what the nhs covid symptoms page I looked at used and it’s also what my thermometer uses.

MegaGengar · 10/10/2021 16:32

Are you in the South West OP? Hearing so many cases of positive LFT and symptoms and negative PCR.

cantkeepawayforever · 10/10/2021 16:46

I would request a postal PCR. I live in the SW and if I get a positive LFT, I'll request a postal PCR as they are sent to a different site for processing from the drive-in tests. there seems to be a real problem with false negatives from the local PCR processor.

sachaf08 · 10/10/2021 17:02

@cantkeepawayforever yes I’m doing exactly this. I’m hoping it’ll arrive tomorrow morning so I can send it tomorrow afternoon.
@MegaGengar yes I’m in the south west. I’ve seen some suggestions that it’s an issue with the lab in Bristol but of course no one really knows , it could be many different things.

Did you get your results back @sachaf08 ?

sachaf08 · 30/10/2021 21:20

Just wanted to come back and update, thankfully my partner didn’t catch it and the wedding went ahead Grin still actually can’t believe it all worked out.

Sorry @MegaGengar I didn’t see your question for some reason! By the time I got the test and trace text telling me to get a repeat PCR, I was already on day 9 of isolation, so didn’t want to risk being given a whole new 10 days to do Confused not sure if that would have happened but I’d heard anecdotally that it was possible.

We had about five guests drop out due to having covid, and thankfully no one seems to have come down with it since the wedding, so it seems (touch wood) that the testing system has worked here to keep everyone safe!
