How to book third dose (500,000 vulnerable)

User7261498 · 23/09/2021 19:46

Hi,
My mum is eligible for the third primary covid dose for which 500,000 extremely vulnerable people are eligible for (separate to the booster programme), she has blood cancer and had radiotherapy in the last 6 months. Her first two doses were over 6 months ago with less than a 3 week gap due to rushing through so she was fully vaccinated before her treatment. I'm really keen for her to get the third dose but she's heard nothing! On the NHS booking system you can only book your first two doses or the booster and when attempting to book the booster it won't let her. She has called her doctor and they said it's nothing to do with them. She has contacted her lymphoma team but has yet to hear back. Anyone else had more luck?

My doctors surgery called me yesterday and I'm booked for Saturday. Today I got an email and sms from the NHS saying in eligible. They're working their way through so expect an email or sms soon and then she can book online. I had my second dose 13th March.

Mindymomo · 23/09/2021 20:20

We had contact from GP practice that says how you were notified before with regard to getting first and second doses, the same will happen for the booster.

SoisGentil · 23/09/2021 21:05

Blood cancer uk has a template letter and help with how to get your GP to do it. It's definitely a problem, people are confusing it with booster, see above Smile. I sent the JCVI criteria and an email with my criteria, drugs., mentioned duty of care and they reluctantly did it. Seems the very stretched system did not cope well with finding this very vulnerable group of patients. The booster campaign is now drowning out the 3rd jab. It's dangerous, especially with the 'end shielding' advice on top. Keep going, good luck Thanks

SoisGentil · 23/09/2021 21:07

For anyone who doesn't understand, 3rd jab is for those likely to not have antibodies due to severe immunosuppression. We will also get a booster,4th jab when it is decided it will be most effective

Thank you for explaining that, I had no idea!
SoisGentil · 23/09/2021 21:17

Wreck You and most of the NHS, hence the confusion. It was announced on the 2nd September, this is the most vulnerable group in the country and it seems crazy that people are struggling to access the jabs.

WreckTangled · 23/09/2021 21:30

Also sorry to the OP I completely missed the part in the brackets in your post! I hope you get it sorted soon.

Kitkat151 · 23/09/2021 21:51

Mine was booked through GP for next week...I got a text alert to book....there has to be a 6 month gap between 2nd and 3rd jabs....practice nurse said my 4th one will be 8 weeks after the 3rd....I’m having my flu Vaccine at the same time....it’s the GP responsibility I was told.
Hope your mum gets sorted

User7261498 · 23/09/2021 21:54

Thanks, the 6 month mark passed 2 weeks ago since my mums second jab. GP said they didn't sort out any jabs during the first and second doses and won't be doing this either!

@Kitkat151 that's really strange as I thought the 3rd had to be min 8 weeks after 2nd but the booster (for us 4th) had to be min 6 months later - as for everyone else who has to have a min 6 month gap for their booster (for them 3rd)? User are you in Scotland?

StiggyZardust · 23/09/2021 22:04

I had an email today inviting me to book my 3rd dose. My 1st was in December and 2nd three weeks later. I'm 59 with severe asthma, although I wasn't asked to shield at the start of this. I'm having it at a pharmacy next week.

User7261498 · 23/09/2021 22:06

No England - mum is East Midlands

One person in my household is clearly eligible for third primary shot and we've emailed both GP (who claimed they had not received the 2 Sept guidance) and hospital unit in the hope that they will actually do the necessary admin to get the jab.

The last thing we need is for it to be muddled up with the booster (which for this group will be 6 months after the third primary).

Is this a third primary jab, or the 6mth booster?

The 6 month gap is for the booster.

Not the third primary for the 500,000 most immune suppressed - for whom the 6 month booster will be their 4th jab.

I didn't know BloodCancerUK had produced a template - good tip, thanks. If we don't get a decent answer to my emails by early next week, we might have to use it then - probably involving CCG at that point - because it shouldn't take a month to notify the people who were told to expect it ''imminently'

SoisGentil · 24/09/2021 07:40

It's outrageous there are so many in the same boat. CCG might be the next move, or MP if they're any good-mine wasn't. I don't understand why it has to be so hard.

Maybe I didn’t make myself clear....I am having the 3rd primary next week ( 6 months after the 2nd) ..GP told me I will have my 4th ( booster) 8 weeks after the 3rd

I was told by my GP that there needed to be a 6 month gap between both a booster or a 3rd primary....it didn’t matter to me as the 6 months are already up....he told me I will be invited for my 4th vaccine (booster) after 8 weeks from date of 3rd primary....I’m having both flu and Covid 3 next week together....if you have then separately there needs to be at least a week between them

CiderWithLizzie · 24/09/2021 14:42

Is that the case @Kitkat151? I’ve got my flu jab booked on Monday and covid booster on Wednesday?

Yes should be a week between.

Sorry late to thread. This 4th jab? I thought only 3 or is this 4th for cev ? I'm frontline and getting 3rd booster week beginning 4th October. And flu jab same day.
thisismyhill · 24/09/2021 17:16

Letters have gone out today in my area for people getting the booster with appointments from 30th September. My oh got one in and he's decided not to have it because people in the Congo haven't even had one.... my rage is high!

CiderWithLizzie · 24/09/2021 19:01

Boosters - national booking site now open to over 50s who had their second dose at least 180 days ago.

I got a text specifically about the 3rd dose vaccine last week and was able to book into a walk in clinic and had it the next day (SE London). It was very clearly third dose as well as they were doing first, second or third doses.

I've since had about 4 texts with a link to book the booster as well, so I think there is some confusion. Plus my third dose hasn't actually gone onto my patient record on the app either.
