Is it just me or has anyone noticed that there isn’t much news on tv about Covid anymore. Also find it strange that some news online report that the schools going back hasn’t caused a spike. I find it odd as schools haven’t been back long…. Surely these people know it takes time for cases to multiply.

It's bloody marvelous that's my astute observation

Islandcircle4 · 20/09/2021 22:41

Hmmm. I’d like to know more. It can’t be swept under the table

Maybe other news has become more important, we're not in an emergency anymore

lynntheyresexpeople · 20/09/2021 22:44

Why do you need to know more? It's always the bloody same anyway! It's lovely to not have it shoved down your throat constantly for a change!

TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe · 20/09/2021 22:45

The data is still available in all the places it usually is if you're interested. Most places seemed to be decreasing last week, though I suspect we'll see a Freshers' Spike by October.

TheKeatingFive · 20/09/2021 22:46

Well we had to move on from covid being the only thing of any importance eventually.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/09/2021 22:46

Thank goodness.

So many other important issues that have received no coverage at all in recent months.

Ted27 · 20/09/2021 22:47

I’m far more concerned about tax hikes, rising prices, the fuel crisis, and food shortages.
I’m fortunate in that I have some big outgoings finishing in the next few months, I can weather this storm.
Many families are in for a very tough winter

NannyAndJohn · 20/09/2021 22:48

Well the official government line is that the pandemic is "over".

Mantlemoose · 20/09/2021 22:49

Well it's because furlough is a about to end so we have to get back to normal. Funny that!!

Ted27 · 20/09/2021 22:49

@NannyAndJohn

can you give me a link to the announcement that the pandemic is over, I seem to have missed that one

LuluJakey1 · 20/09/2021 22:50

@Innovationstandard

Maybe other news has become more important, we're not in an emergency anymore
That is very naive. We have the highest infection rate and death rates in Europe and the highest level of double vaccinations. If we continue on last week's average figures 58,000+ will die of Covid in the next 12 months. I am not a covid panicker but we should not be ignoring these figures.
TheKeatingFive · 20/09/2021 22:52

and the highest level of double vaccinations.

That’s not true. Quite a few countries have overtaken the U.K.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/09/2021 22:53

NannyAndJohn

Well the official government line is that the pandemic is "over".“

For the majority, it is.

gardeninggirl68 · 20/09/2021 22:53

let it go....covid is no longer a big news issue

chaosrabbitland · 20/09/2021 22:54

i along with more than half the country id imagine are fed up of the doom of covid dominating our headlines . instead we now have the doom and gloom of rising taxes and food /gas bills , but at least its new and we havent all been reading about it for the last 2 years
beyond me why anyone would want to read about covid anymore

vdbfamily · 20/09/2021 22:56

Lulu, if hospitalisations are going down then I would assume in a week or two the death rate will follow. We are down to 4 patients in our hospital from over 40 a couple of weeks ago.

BrilloSolar · 20/09/2021 22:57

Thank God!

When the government needed to keep us all in lockdown and to get vaccinated, the media was needed to cause fear.

Now the government need us to live with Covid, the media is needed to report it like any other risk in life- only the extreme stories get shown.

^the above is not a comment on my feelings of the rights or wrongs of government policies regarding Covid, it's just how the media has been used to control society as a whole, how we feel about Covid and respond to lockdown and easing.

HungryHippo11 · 20/09/2021 22:58

Schools have been back 3.5 weeks. In that time, the numbers of cases has gone down. So at present it is correct to say that schools haven't caused a spike.

Beyond that I imagine it's because prior don't want to read it. Papers write what they think people will want to read. Case numbers aren't interesting any more.

Innovationstandard · 20/09/2021 23:02

I am not a covid panicker but we should not be ignoring these figures.

I'm not naive, what do you suggest we do exactly?

NannyAndJohn · 20/09/2021 23:04

@MrsSkylerWhite

NannyAndJohn

Well the official government line is that the pandemic is "over".“

For the majority, it is.

I disagree.

And besides, why should we only care about the majority?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/09/2021 23:11

What do you base your disagreement on, NannyandJohn

The vast majority of vaccinated people are extremely unlikely to become unwell, there is simply no disputing that.

I care very much about the minority, my husband is one of them. What we don’t expect, though, is for the majority to forego their liberty on his behalf.

This is all quite laughable, actually. We have always had to take precautions to protect my husband from infections, any one of which could lead to ICU. That was our life. Covid is no different 🤷‍♀️

SpringRainbow · 20/09/2021 23:37

The amount of Covid news has been declining for ages now.

Right now they need us to live our lives and start mixing again.

I agree with others, it’s been nice having something other than Covid shoved in our face all the time.

TableFlowerss · 20/09/2021 23:39

Brilliant. Heard on the radio a day or two ago that 36,000 new cases of covid and 57 deaths that day. When you think it was hundreds of deaths per day and thousands at some point dying, it really is like flu cases and they’re never reported.

People die day in day out. They’ve got other things going on at the minute such as the gas prices, not enough lorry drivers to keep the shelves stocked up

NHS is also trialing a new drug in vulnerable patients that Donald trump was given. Now kids can be vaccinated. There’s nothing more to be done. This is it.

TableFlowerss · 20/09/2021 23:42

Exactly- some families will really really struggle financially so closing the country down again won’t happen as it would be financial suicide. That’s why there’s a nice seat from covid covid covid
