Is it just me or has anyone noticed that there isn’t much news on tv about Covid anymore. Also find it strange that some news online report that the schools going back hasn’t caused a spike. I find it odd as schools haven’t been back long…. Surely these people know it takes time for cases to multiply.

OP posts:

Reasons here re energy prices

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/energy-crisis-why-gas-prices-have-soared-and-left-uk-facing-prospect-of-food-shortages-12412951

But still o think the op meant moving away from death and case stats as leading news

@NannyAndJohn

Well given Covid (and our government's response to it) has completely fucked our economy, I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest it as a cause of multiple companies imploding.
No, those companies went bust because of their business model and they hadn't purchased supply far enough in the future to ride out the bumps. So it is unreasonable to suggest it is because of the govts handling of covid.

@User135644 restrictions increased and so did cases much much earlier in august / Sep 2020 - they have actually been falling recently.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/09/2021 19:05

What people don't have a good degree of protection against is rising food and fuel prices, food shortages and cuts to UC

Especially if the mania over Covid has cost them their job Sad

But no need to worry about those who've driven it being unable to catastrophise now ... they'll just swap to any or all of the above issues instead

Covid is here to stay and we have to accept that, just like flu kills people, covid will kill people. And on an individual level that's utterly crappy but the world simply cannot afford lockdown after lockdown.

Another one who misses the point and can’t understand basic logic or pay attention to things which have been repeated over and over.

  1. There is no choice “just to live with it” doing that comes with inherent risks which are worse than you seem to suggest. Hospitalisations go up, non Covid treatments are stopped or reduced and the overall health of the nation suffers. We will be dealing with the current waiting list for at least a decade.
  1. There are a whole load of options in between lockdown, and removing any mitigation’s. Other ways to manage those risks. It isn’t simply a choice between “normal” and “lockdown”

Just wait till Evergrande hits the general media. That'll definitely push covid off the top spot.

@Stasiland

Read the thread on here for NHS workers. Have some bl*y compassion. It's nowhere near over.
No one is suggesting it's over.

However it's not news compared to recent events.

Schools have gone back and number if cases has risen in schoolchildren as you'd expect.
But they have started to show a small decline overall.
Secondary children will be receiving a vaccination soon if they want one.
This will help with the school cases.

Meanwhile we have empty shelves, rising food prices, issues with gas, protests blocking motorways and causing death, Afghanistan.

Right now these are more new worthy and new and changing situation compared to covid.

Covid is still bad and the pandemic still exists. But currently nothing new has happened.

Our local TOWN ran out of petrol yesterday. That wasn't on the news either!

herecomesthsun · 22/09/2021 17:43

well I'm listening to a lot of information on Radio 4 PM as I'm writing all about how the vaccine is "a very very good idea" for children "for your future life chances" and " for your mental health"

Vaccine was definitely amazing for my mental health after 15 months of avoiding people and activities.
herecomesthsun · 22/09/2021 18:17

I have to say, I really enjoyed going out & shopping to get bits and pieces for the family after all the shielding, knowing I was relatively safe as vaccinated.

It's not entirely the same as kids aren't high risk, but it is so important for them not to have disruption especially if studying for external exams (as JVT was saying this afternoon). It's also really upsetting (and potentially life changing) for them when family get ill (and also much loved teachers)

Isn't there? That's a relief, I stopped watching the news well over a year ago as it was all doom and gloom, according to them no one ever recovers if they get covid, so sick of the negativity.
SpringRainbow · 23/09/2021 02:39

@redimpulse it’s still doom and gloom, just they have remembered there are other big bads out there. Not just Covid.

Nidan2Sandan · 26/09/2021 18:53

So much worse things going on than bloody covid!

People are going to die from poverty. People will be freezing and going hungry. I can imagine suicide may well increase.

Poverty is by far one of the biggest, if not the biggest issue this country faces. Covid isnt even in the top 3 of "issues we should worry about" in my opinion.

I, for one, am glad that the hyperbole we have had to listen to over the last 2 years is coming to a close. We know covid isnt leaving, but it is not the be all and end all of everything.
