Anyone Refussing a Booster?

Kendodd · 20/09/2021 16:26

I don't feel comfortable having a third while so many people in the developing world haven't even had one dose. I think I'll refuse and let my MP know why.
This is no criticism of people who chose to have a booster BTW. I'm in good health in my 50s, if I was older or vulnerable I very much doubt I'd still refuse the booster.

@Ginandfantalemon

I think we need to be told clearly whether the vaccine passport as it stands at the moment, will be deemed ineffective with just 2 vaccines. Is the booster an 'added optional extra' or will we be classed as non vaccinated if we refuse it? I have had health issues since I had my first pfizer, took my second one and am still having horrid side effects. But if I do refuse, will I then be excluded from things in society and classed as unvaccinated? I feel it's happening so quick and I dont think things are being explained properly. It shouldn't be so black and white. (Take it or leave it).
I agree. I'm worried I won't be able to travel or participate in society if I don't keep having boosters in the future. I'm even worried about my 17 month old being told she has to have it in the future and being excluded from clubs, events, nursery etc if she doesn't.
BoomChicka · 21/09/2021 20:21

I've just thought- if other countries make 3 x jabs a condition to travel, are the govt going to make under 50's pay for the booster, and pay for the 2nd and 3rd jab for teens? Hmm.

pontypridd · 21/09/2021 21:28

I’ll refuse if ever offered. I’m sure under 50s will be soon. It will be forced on us one way or another.

The first two have wrecked my body. I don’t care what is banned or out of bounds if I no longer comply. My health and freedom is more important than comparatively trivial entertainments.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/09/2021 18:41

What an absolute trial it is and just to save lives.

As someone who is needle phobic a 40 mile round trip would be a trial for me. I wouldn't be able to drive myself and so DH would have to give up his day to take me.

Despite everything I had my covid vaccines and will have the booster if it became available for the under 50s. I'm not going to pretend it was for the greater good though, it was for me and DH a) because he's 20 years older than me and b) because I want to travel

londonmummy1966 · 22/09/2021 19:04

I've had my first two AZ jabs - I am coming up to six months for the booster but would really like to see the results of the university of Southampton trial on the Pfizer booster after non Pfizer jabs. I know the earlier trial found AZ followed by PZ was the most effective combination but that wasn't about boosters whereas the SOuthampton trial is.

WaterAndRichTea · 22/09/2021 19:06

I cant wait to get the booster

Dragonpox · 22/09/2021 19:08

I'll get it but after the effects it's had on my cycle (bled constanstly for months and had flooding so bad I can't leave the house for 4 months afterwards) I'm not looking forward to it!

SparkyTheCat · 22/09/2021 20:32

Probably not, after being ill with both previous jabs (far worse than with actual covid) and receiving appalling 'care' from Drs who refused to acknowledge that side-effects were even possible.

Kendodd · 23/09/2021 11:31

I seem to be the only person refusing because they want to draw attention to the lack of coverage in the developing world.
I have written to my MP about it, I know he won't give a shit though. I think if mass refusal for this reason stifled booster and under 16 rollout action might be taken though.

Has it got any better for you? I find this incredibly concerning that period changes like this are just being swept under the rug like it's nothing.

If there was no vaccine and you just happened to start bleeding like that out of the blue I'm sure Dr's would have been more concerned. 😕

PinkTonic · 23/09/2021 15:14

I’m having mine on Saturday.

Excited101 · 23/09/2021 15:41

Oh Lordy

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/09/2021 15:50

As soon as the residents I look after have their booster, then the staff will be next.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 23/09/2021 16:01

Wouldn't bank on it. My periods have been gradually disappearing for years and it took most of that time to get them to do even the most cursory investigations. Which didn't show anything, so they've just gone "meh, one of those things I guess".

TheVolturi · 24/09/2021 10:34

I don't think I will have a booster no. Dh either. We had our first two and have just been really poorly with covid, I am still not well. I was quite under the weather for a couple of months after my second vaccine. So I am hoping that currently actually having covid will act as my booster.
I've had my flu vaccine for years and years, and never caught flu. Why have we caught covid?

CiderWithLizzie · 24/09/2021 11:26

DH and I have just booked ours for next week Smile

Horst · 24/09/2021 12:56

My parents have said they won’t get the booster and that if they had the choice again they wouldn’t of got the jabs at all.

Not sure I’d do it again but with my age I’m the last group before children again.

AliceS1994 · 24/09/2021 13:19

I'm a pregnant nurse so yes I did!

Seesawmummadaw · 24/09/2021 13:26

@cptartapp

I'll have it this year but I don't want a booster every year for evermore. Same with the flu. I've been eligible since I was 18 as a nurse for that, which would mean being vaccinated with around 60 different flu vaccines in my lifetime. Now to start with Covid too in my 40's? Whilst I'm low risk? No thanks.
You could turn it around and say that you are lucky enough to have been offered it around 60 times. You are now lucky enough to be able to have the covid booster.

I’ll be having it. I am glad that I am able to.

Multicolouredsequins · 24/09/2021 14:29

@RobinsReliant

Yes I will be having a booster. Reason? Because if I end up in hospital or unwell with Covid I take up valuable NHS resources which could help others.

The issue of vaccines in other countries is a separate one but the sooner we are back on our feet the better position we will be in to assist other nations with their programme.

Exactly. Need to look at the bigger picture. If the NHS becomes overwhelmed again, people will die, and not just from Covid. Those refusing the booster have similar arguments to the anti Vax brigade. They're very aware of their freedoms and rights yet benefit from the herd immunity offered due to others having the jab yet are potentially causing an increase in the spread of the virus. Very selfish in my opinion. This shouldn't be about what you prefer to do or not to do, other countries are very unlikely to benefit from you not accepting the jab, if you're genuinely considerate about the health and wellbeing of others then have the booster. There are people who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons, you owe it to them not to refuse it.

It honestly sounds like you are rubbing your hands in glee at the prospect of standing on your pedestal and yelling 'selfish' at anyone not wanting to have what could end up being a yearly (or more frequent) jab. Already, you are classing people not wanting the booster as ant-vaxxers (when that is impossible.... if they have been offered the booster then then they have already had both their jabs. Doesn't sound very anti-vaxx to me).

Multicolouredsequins · 24/09/2021 17:21

Xeno - 'It honestly sounds like you are rubbing your hands in glee at the prospect of standing on your pedestal and yelling 'selfish' at anyone not wanting to have what could end up being a yearly (or more frequent) jab. '

Erm, not at all, no reason for rubbing hands with 'glee' if people start dying again or NHS gets overwhelmed again. Too many horror stories about bad reactions to jabs online, these are incredibly rare, but I think they're giving people a skewed idea about booster jabs. The majority of people have a sore arm. I think a lot of reasons given here got refusing the booster aren't very convincing and do sound like those currently refusing the jab. Immunity is though to wane after 6 months, so next year could be a shit show if there's a low up take for boosters. Not gleeful at all at the thought of that 🙄

Parker231 · 24/09/2021 17:25

I’m in my late 40’s so don’t think I’ll be offered one but I would 100% take it.

Steelesauce · 24/09/2021 17:34

Mines booked for next week! I intend to take whatever is offered so I can continue to live my life.

Kendodd · 24/09/2021 20:08

In an aircraft emergency, they say don the mask yourself before helping others.

I've had both jabs, my mask is already on. The head of the WHO has described boosters as giving people with two lifejackets a third while others have none.
