Anyone Refussing a Booster?

124 replies

Kendodd · 20/09/2021 16:26

I don't feel comfortable having a third while so many people in the developing world haven't even had one dose. I think I'll refuse and let my MP know why.
This is no criticism of people who chose to have a booster BTW. I'm in good health in my 50s, if I was older or vulnerable I very much doubt I'd still refuse the booster.

All the people refusing boosters... do you know how many vaccinations are needed to provide full protection against tetanus? It's five.

And with a virus particularly prone to mutations such as influenza, if you need protection from it then it's a yearly jab.

Covid is very likely to need an ongoing program. This isn't being decided on arbitrarily but based on evidence. Do any of the people on here who think two is 'enough' have any relevant qualifications?

takemetocedarpoint · 20/09/2021 18:58

@ErrolTheDragon well said. I’ll be getting mine when invited, though I’m not yet in the priority group (45).

Kendodd · 20/09/2021 19:41

I know the vaccine won't then be sent to someone in the developing world.

I would hope that if enough people refuse for this reason though more effort will be made to get poorer countries vaccinated. Promises aren't enough, actual vaccine in people's arms are what counts. I also know it's not easy. We can do better though. And as people say, nobody's safe until everybody's safe. I have no concerns about the safety of the vaccine and will happily have a covid booster every year (as seems likely). The head of the WHO thinks we should get others safe before boosters. I know my little protest will make zero difference to policy. I just don't want to take a third 'lifejacket' while others have none.

I will write to my MP about it, I doubt he'll even write back (he rarely does, fucker!)

You can go whistle. I'll have my cev booster shot the moment it's available.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/09/2021 19:45

@LIZS

Your refusal won't pass it to those in developing countries though.
This.
Mojoj · 20/09/2021 19:45

No. I've had Covid and been doubly jagged. I think I'm good ta.

Kendodd · 20/09/2021 19:48

@FourTeaFallOut

Did you even read my op? I said if I was vulnerable I would think differently. I'm not. I'm fit healthy in my early 50s and double vaccinated, very low risk. My teenage children are also all fit, healthy and very low risk.

I'll have it this year but I don't want a booster every year for evermore. Same with the flu.
I've been eligible since I was 18 as a nurse for that, which would mean being vaccinated with around 60 different flu vaccines in my lifetime. Now to start with Covid too in my 40's? Whilst I'm low risk? No thanks.

RobinsReliant · 20/09/2021 20:03

Yes I will be having a booster. Reason? Because if I end up in hospital or unwell with Covid I take up valuable NHS resources which could help others.

The issue of vaccines in other countries is a separate one but the sooner we are back on our feet the better position we will be in to assist other nations with their programme.

See a post like this makes me think we need to somehow change the whole narrative around vaccination. You - and others - speak as though vaccination is some sinister double edged sword that causes you as much harm as good. What the fuck is wrong with having had 60 flu vaccs? is it any worse than having ploughed through a couple of hundred packs of ibuprofen by the time you're 80? Or any other medication that mitigates, prevents, or manages illness? Or having taken vitamin c every day for fifty years? Why this horror of vaccines? Is this all from that MMR eejit whose name escapes me right now? Just because something's administered via a needle it provokes all kinds of irrational fears in people. The illness is statistically way, way, way more likely to harm you than the vaccine, for the bazillionth time. I get so frustrated that people don't get this. Be scared of the virus ffs, not the vaccine!
CoffeeWithCheese · 20/09/2021 20:15

I really really don't want it but suspect I'm going to be essentially coerced into needing to have it as I have to do a healthcare placement this year. My body's not been right since I got the AZ early on in the vaccines and I don't want to fuck it up more than it is already in terms of allergic reactions going batshit insane and the eternal fucking period of shit.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 20/09/2021 20:17

I won't be getting the booster. I have been double jabbed and I am fully regretting it. Since I had my first vaccine my menstrual cycle has been all over the place to the point where I am very worried that it has made it impossible for me to have any more children. I am mid 30s. I know that the GP will dismiss my worries but I have been on the pill for years and have never had a period while on it but since my vaccine I have been getting irregular bleeds. Sometimes twice a month.

ilovesooty · 20/09/2021 20:50

I'll have it when it's offered. If there's an annual booster I'll have that as well.

fluffi · 20/09/2021 21:04

I'll be taking booster if offered. Very happy to have yearly like the flu vaccination. Refusing isn't going to benefit anyone and I'd rather not end up very ill or worse in hospital using NHS resources.

Davros · 20/09/2021 21:53

I've been offered it, I'm so excited. I had AZ for the first two and it says booster is Pfizer. I could book this week but I'm away so will go next week.

User45829057 · 20/09/2021 21:54

I most likely won't be having it.

thewhatsit · 20/09/2021 22:02

@lockdownmadnessdotcom

I don't qualify for one (just too young), but some countries are making them compulsory (Croatia and Austria) so if you want to go overseas you may need one.

And of course if we have the lovely vaccine passports imposed (in England) it may not be sufficient to be "fully" vaccinated anymore.

Oh yeah, I’m fully assuming that we will all be asked to have them and 2 vaccinations will become “partially vaccinated”.
Billandbob · 20/09/2021 22:03

I definitely will, I’m in CV category and work in Social care.

ilovesooty · 20/09/2021 22:05

If you decline a booster you're offered you're not fully vaccinated, are you? Full vaccination status surely depends on accepting the offer when you become eligible.

User45829057 · 20/09/2021 22:22

Full vaccination with booster domestic passports won't happen unless under 50s are vaccinated as well as it will be far too complicated to check everyone's age and whether they are CEV or CV and should have had booster I won't be travelling overseas anyway. Some countries are putting 9 months expiry on Vax passports so that will stuff up the under 50s if they are not having booster

BoomChicka · 20/09/2021 22:26

I won't have it unless I'm prevented from travelling without it. I've had the first 2 and covid, not worried about getting covid again so nope.

plinkplinkfizzer · 20/09/2021 22:32

I will have my booster jab when it is due, the wonderful Nurses and Doctors deserve an easier winter this year . They work so hard in really hot conditions ❤

postingfortraffichere · 20/09/2021 22:38

@NailsNeedDoing

I’m not going to be offered a booster yet, but if it comes down to my age group I won’t be accepting it. I’ve already had two injections I didn’t really want for the greater good so I’ve done my bit and had my turn, now we need to give our vaccines to people that need them instead of giving them to children and the already vaccinated.
I agree with this. A booster is now going too far. I did my bit - got the jab when I didn't really need it for the greater good. I'm not going every few months to get more of it when it doesn't actually prevent from getting Covid only death.
User45829057 · 20/09/2021 22:43

I wonder if I will be expected to trot off to a vaccine centre 20 miles away every 6 months for a booster like I had to for the first 2
