Symptoms in primary school child

Please just bear with me.

Child in my sons class had a high temperature and cough on Thursday - mum kept him off but he was better Friday so she sent him into school and did a PCR on Friday before she dropped him off. Child was at school on Friday and doing sports club on sat and as ‘he felt better and fine’ - he’s now tested positive and she’s posted this in the what’s app group. I thought a child had to isolate if they had symptoms until the PCR came back?

She’s breezily posted about her child now testing positive etc and they are now isolating. Have I misread the guidance I thought unvaccinated you keep them off until negative PCR if they either have a positive lateral flow or have had symptoms she said as his symptoms were better Friday she sent him in

It's ten full days AFTER symptoms? I thought. So if he was fine Friday so 10 full days is Monday.

But his symptoms were on Thurday, hence him being off then? So in all likelihood he is/was most likely to transmit Covid from last Tuesday to now.

Test and trace will tell the parent the official dates.

You are correct in thinking your DC has been exposed on Friday and Saturday. Have you booked your DC a PCR today? They won't need to isolate for the result.

Why is it such a big party??

His symptoms were Thursday though weren’t they?
dementedpixie · 19/09/2021 12:20

Thursday is day 0
Sunday will be day 10
Release from isolation on Monday

Bobholll · 19/09/2021 12:22

You won’t be the only one cancelling on the party OP. I can’t imagine many people will be keen!

Covid aside. Who on earth has a party for 100 kids?! 😱 it’s insane! I thought the one for 45 kids my DD went too in summer was big!

IAAP · 19/09/2021 12:31

She is saying thursday is day 1 Sunday is day 11?

Walkaround · 19/09/2021 12:31

Isolation is 10 full days and therefore counted from the first day after symptoms started. The party therefore falls on the last day of isolation, so should not go ahead.

Please someone help me I don't want to cause a problem -if I'm in a wrong here!

Test and Trace will tell her the correct dates.
Walkaround · 19/09/2021 12:33

Sunday is only free from isolation if symptoms started on the Wednesday, which she will probably pretend is the case.

SpringRainbow · 19/09/2021 12:33

My children’s school require proof of a negative PCR or else they will not be allowed passed the school gates.

They have been incredibly strict about this throughout.

Quite amazed the school let them in to be honest.

Who says they told the school their child had a cough and high temperature? Parents tend to be more evasive than that and say their child is feeling under the weather, or has a bit of a cold. They know not to mention temperatures, coughs or changes in sense of taste or smell if they don’t want to be asked to get a pcr test.
Howmanysleepsnow · 19/09/2021 12:38

She has to isolate up to and including the Sunday. Day 1 is the first day after the day symptoms start. I’ve just double checked this with test and trace as my son had a positive pcr.

Silkiescatz · 19/09/2021 12:42

Definitely supposed to be off until PCR back negative or 10 full days from start of symptoms. She may have put first day of symptoms as Wednesday but if he was in on Friday he has probably spread it to some of the party goers.

IAAP · 19/09/2021 12:56

She didn’t put anything on the group
Chat until Saturday. She didn’t tell
The school he was ill Thursday, she didn’t tell
The school she had done a PCR.

I’ll screen shot the lot and emailed the head - let her deal with it! She can explain to Mrs G why her DC had a cough and high temperature on Thursday and she sent him in on Friday and Saturday and out their staff and parents and kids at risk - the head can have that conversation. Mum is a queen bee and has her minions so I’m thinking the damage is done for my dc. Obviously she’s happy if she isolates as she wfh and bugger the rest of us who would need time off!

As to how the isolation is calculated - DS developed a runny nose on the Wednesday, sore throat Thursday, occasional wet cough on Friday. PCR test on the Friday, confirmed as positive on the Saturday and told to isolate until Monday (tommorow). Based on that the date of test was day 1 and today is day 10.

It's been a bloody nuisance as the were supposed to move into Uni halls today but on the other hand they were only slightly ill.

I've just Checked with DS and he's pretty sure he put the first day of symptoms as Wednesday so I'm not helping at all!
Clutterbugsmum · 19/09/2021 13:19

To be fair one of the other parents is a GP and is totally anti them being isolated even if they test positive and did say on a previous chat -and refuses his to do a LFT at secondary as he doesn't want them isolating. (Different school). But he has made his feelings clear.

And yet as a GP he probably still isn't back at work seeing people face to face either and using Covid as an excuse.

I wouldn't be taking my child to the party.

A mum did this at a local private infants school and got her kid permanently excluded as a result!

Poor child, they shouldn’t have to suffer for their parents idiocy Sad
IAAP · 19/09/2021 13:32

I’ve emailed the headteacher and will be ringing on Monday - safeguarding is the key term here she’s put 300 off kids at risk and all their families. I’m going to ask them
To intervene re party and mention that they now know so it’s up to them to sort it

@User5827372728 what a good strong move by the school. Most schools would be too scared to do that.

The parent is putting staff and everyone in the entire school at risk not just my children - damn right don’t want to follow the rules then home school your kids

TheGrumpyGoat · 19/09/2021 13:42

But the child is the one suffering 🤷🏻‍♀️. Glad we don’t punish children for their parents behaviour in all walks of life.

RumblyMumbly · 19/09/2021 13:56

@IAAP sorry to badger but have you arranged the PCR for your DC yet? You know they have been a close contact and you don't want to be putting the rest of the school community at more risk.

Why is the birthday party so big? Is it for the whole school??
