Fitness class overcrowded

Zig27 · 14/09/2021 20:34

I went to an aerobics class as the instructor said places were limited. When I got there people just walked in without putting any sanitiser on. There were 26 people in the hall and not all of the external doors were open for ventilation. I just feel people have become complacent now they have had the vaccine and things have reopened. I won’t be going again as I felt uncomfortable. Especially with so much movement, sweating and breathing. Anyone else avoiding indoor classes?

I am, yes - but I realise I'm likely not in the majority. I'm happy to go out to eat, walk among people, etc. - but a venue where there are lots of people in an enclosed room who are exhaling heavily does not appeal.

Againstmachine · 14/09/2021 20:40

Heaven forbid that people do this at fitness classes it's kind of the point.

Chillychangchoo · 14/09/2021 20:41

No, I’ve been going to bootcamp and HIIT classes at my local gym. What do you mean by complacent? People are less scared after the vaccine for sure, but we are not stupid.

I sanitise my hands after the sessions, but really common sense tells you if you’re worried about catching covid then the gym isn’t the place for you.

Personally I’m not worried and I’ll continue to go. Fab for my physical and mental health.

Frederica852 · 14/09/2021 20:42

No. Been to mine as usual

lannistunut · 14/09/2021 20:43

I would not be keen to be in a fitness class, no, unless ventilation was very good.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/09/2021 20:43

Stay home.

Katie517 · 14/09/2021 20:46

I go to 4 classes a week, they are now back to normal capacity. It doesn’t worry me in the slightest, the classes do wonders for my mental health and keep me fit and the risk of not going is greater for me than the risk of covid. You can’t expect everyone else to conform to your standards to ease your anxiety, that is a problem you need to fix yourself.

RunningStrong · 14/09/2021 20:46

I haven't gone back but I don't think we can ask people to restrict numbers anymore, now there aren't any official restrictions. It's up to individuals to decide if they're comfortable

nc4565 · 14/09/2021 20:47

Haven't you heard OP, all official restrictions have been lifted some time ago.

Do a home workout if you feel uncomfortable.

OliveTree75 · 14/09/2021 20:52

Don't go then.

Ellarain · 14/09/2021 20:53

I have returned to the gym everytime the restrictions have been lifted. Plenty of sanitiser, anti bacterial wipes and sprays for wiping equipment, well ventilated, smaller class and gym is covid disinfected once a week. It's actually cleaner than before Covid.

I agree. I go to the gym and it’s much cleaner and well ventilated.

Doesn’t sound ‘restricted’ Confused

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/09/2021 20:55

I've been back in an indoor swimming pool and gym on the day restrictions have been lifted. Usually takes a couple of months for everyone else to get back into it - those couple of months were ace!

User5827372728 · 14/09/2021 20:58

Sanitiser won’t do anything in a fitness class to prevent an airborne virus!

I’ve been avoiding indoor fitness classes for all the reasons you listed, heavy breathing with no ventilation… I Kind of miss the limited places! And no I’m not a covidphobe I’ve worked as a teacher in a huge secondary throughout

Fellrunner85 · 14/09/2021 20:58

Don't go if you're not comfortable with it. Personally, I have no issue - I do spin, body pump and weights, and feel safe enough as I'm double jabbed and there's lots of cleaning/sanitising going on.

Mojoj · 14/09/2021 21:01

Don't go then. More space for the rest of us who want to get on with our lives.

PurpleDaisies · 14/09/2021 21:02

I don’t want people to stop exercising. Mental health is so important. So is staying a healthy weight. If you’re not comfortable, don’t go but I’ll be carrying on as long as everything stays open.

That’s what I thought! 😂

You are doing the sanitiser wrong OP. You are supposed to drink some before the class not put it on you. Then you’ll be absolutely fine and dandy.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 14/09/2021 21:19

Why would they put sanitiser on pre class? What are they going to be touching at a fitness class? Is it one with shared equipment? Otherwise not sure why it really affects you. I do put some on reflexively when I walk past it at the gym entrance but I expect I sweat it off before too long. I also obsessively wipe anything that I touch despite knowing that airborne transmission is the main method of spread.

I have gone to the gym as much as allowed as it really helps my stress levels. I am double jabbed and have had Covid (pre jab) so I guess I do feel a bit complacent. With justification I think.

If you don't feel comfortable don't go but you can't really expect other people to accommodate you being scared and wanting more measures than are actually recommended.

Sherrystrull · 14/09/2021 21:22

Good job you don't work in my school...

WTAFFF · 14/09/2021 21:29

Is there any need for some of you to be so rude? Why is the only option carrying on like covid doesn’t exist or be told to stay home?

I go to the gym all the time but there is decent ventilation and plenty of room. There are a lot of easy steps that could be taken to make things a lot safer and make those who might be nervous more likely to exercise.

Ugzbugz · 14/09/2021 21:37

I would still go but I still go to work, Ds in school, go to football, been to packed pubs. This isn't ending anytime soon.

Don't get the obsession with hand sanitiser either. Touching a pot that every other sod has touched anyway, just wash your hands Confused

Thank you for recognising the rudeness. Some of them are like that on here if you have a differing opinion.
