Change in heartbeat after second Pfizer jab

BasinHaircut · 14/09/2021 09:43

Had my second jab about 5 weeks ago.

I am usually a regular gym goer and yogi. Throughout the summer I haven’t been working out much, a session here and there rather than 4-5 times per week.

On the rare occasions that I’ve done some exercise, I have had a significantly harder heartbeat. I can feel it, I don’t know whether it’s beating faster than normal but it’s deffo pumping harder as I can feel it when I’d never noticed it previously.

Last night was the third time I have noticed it (I’ve probably only worked out 4-5 times). Just wondered if anyone else has had this and if they have been seen about it and what’s happening now etc.

Thanks

Hi i have had issues with my heart rate after my 1st pfizer jab. I have had ecg and also a heart monitor for 24 hrs which i havent yet received the results for. Im due a phonecall with my doctors tomorrow as my heart rate has been all over the place the last few days. I am meant to be having my 2nd Jab on saturday as well

TSJ19 · 16/09/2021 09:42

Did the nurse tell you what your heart rate was?

BasinHaircut · 16/09/2021 10:11

No to be honest I didn’t ask - I should have.

They are writing to my GP to recommend a 24hr heart thingy and also a thyroid test to rule that out.

But I already have a consultant appt tomorrow anyway.

TSJ19 · 16/09/2021 10:25

I hope you get on ok at the consultants tomorrow. Will you let me know how you get on?

IncredulousOne · 16/09/2021 12:16

@Sweetpeasaremadeofcheese

My 60yo mother had her first ever heart attack after hers. But the doctors said heart issues can't be related to the jab and shrugged it off.
To quote Mandy Rice-Davis "Yes, well they would say that wouldn't they?"
BasinHaircut · 16/09/2021 14:46

@TSJ19 thank you, yes I’ll update Smile

And people want to give their healthy children this!! I really cannot comprehend this

BFrazzled · 16/09/2021 22:41

Interestingly I had this kind of strong fast heartbeat after first Pfizer jab. I could especially feel it at night. It was way back in February so didn’t consult anyone about this. I felt nothing after the second jab though…

BFrazzled · 16/09/2021 22:44

@Nerdygirl

The reason I was given the jab is to protect the vulnerable population and the hospitals, not myself and this is also true about absolute majority of people under 50…same will be true about children. I think you misunderstand the purpose of vaccination.

Hi,

I've been having loud heart beats and also really intense palpitations. It felt as though my heart was trying to burst out through my chest a couple of weeks ago.

I've had alpha long covid last year, then very bad side effects from the AZ jab, and then Delta long covid, so I have no idea which caused this heart thing, but I can tell you what the GP said and what helped it get better in me.

I talked to 111 on the phone and then the next day I had an ECG at my local GP surgery and the GP listened to my chest and talked to me about it all.

She said they're seeing a lot of autonomic nervous system glitches in people after covid (that may also be true about the vaccine, I'm not sure).

She said that autonomic nervous system glitches are like stress-related ilness++. She said normally if we have a minor stressful situation like a social even to go to, usually we might get a fight or flight response activated in our body, which causes stress-related illness. The fight or flight response is meant to activate our body to help us run away from predators, but there are no actual predators, so instead of fighting or fleeing, we stand still, get all knotted up inside and then get stress-related illness.

In the autonomic nervous system glitch, instead of the stressful event triggering flight or flight response, she said the body goes straight to "play dead" as a safety feature. This is basically an even more extremely behaviour that is intended to stop us from being eaten by whatever predator our mind thinks is causing the stress.

So the things that they are seeing in people post-covid are things like people getting light-headed and needing to lie down, and apparently also now palpitations, which she seemed to group along with that.

She said the important thing to remember is that it's "play dead" not "drop dead". So we don't need to worry about it being serious, we just need to obviously check with the GP or 111 to make sure all is well, and then chill out really hard until our body and mind feels safe again.

After she explained that, I went home and tried just lying down and trying hard to relax. It was hard as I was really really tense and couldn't lie still. However, I did manage to do it and after a week of real determination I felt a lot more human again. Just lying still or at least lying down and wriggling a lot seemed to help.

With me, it also helped to eat stuff with vitamin B12 in it, but I think I had a deficiency to start with.

I have just had one vaccine and I had epic side effects. I'm really torn about whether to have a second one. I did catch covid for the second time after having the vaccine, and that was a thoroughly unpleasant business too, so I really feel quite confused about what to do. Which to have next - covid again for vaccine side effects. Not sure!?

IncredulousOne · 17/09/2021 05:08

Bfrazzled: regarding your comment about "I think you misunderstand the purpose of vaccination", (for some reason I am unable to quote this in the usual way.)

I think rather it is the case that it is you who fails to understand the futility of vaccinating non-vulnerable individuals with a leaky vaccine to a highly mutable pathogen...

So you had Covid (alpha), you had the vaccine, and you managed to catch Covid (delta) again!?

That's seriously unlucky.

IHateCoronavirus · 17/09/2021 05:28

I had moderna and frequently feel as if my heart has a caged bird fluttering inside it since.

Whatever9999 · 17/09/2021 07:27

I had a really nasty "mystery" respiratory virus Christmas 2019. Went from running marathons to my hr going up over 100 just by walking. Took 3 months to get back up to full fitness but I got there.
Do you have a garmin or similar?
If so you can set it to alarm if your hr goes beyond a certain level while exercising. My PT had me doing this and for a while I had to stop and rest every time it went above 160. As the weeks and months went on I was able to push much harder before it got that high so we increased the hr it would alarm at until we got it up to 180 and then turned it off. 20months on and I once more have to push super hard to get it above 170

Allwillbefine · 17/09/2021 08:03

I had myocarditis after my first AZ jab. It was frightening - heart thumping and really rapid. I also had chest pain, was light headed and very very tired. The vaccinations can cause these heart issues but I read a report on it the other day which showed that recovery from said heart issues after a jab is nearly always quick and doesn’t leave any lasting damage.

TabbyStar · 17/09/2021 08:09

I have the same thing OP. I've kept a record and given it to the GP, waiting to see what happens next. I'm finding mine is sometimes faster but sometimes just thumping. My BP doesn't seem affected. I'm also fit but it's doing it now after just walking upstairs and I'm finding it happens particularly in the night if I get up to the loo. I had the AZ.

TabbyStar · 17/09/2021 08:11

I should say though that I'm not 100% sure I can attribute it to the jab, I ignored it for a while thinking it was menopause related, i have had palpitations but they were very different than this, so it starting was around the time of the jab but I can't identify precisely.

Sweetpeasaremadeofcheese · 17/09/2021 08:35

@Confused10101 yes she has Pfizer

Sweetpeasaremadeofcheese · 17/09/2021 08:37

*had
She had the first jab. They won't let her have the second (even though apparently it had nothing to do with it) she is going to have Moderna.

I’m glad I found this thread as this is something I’ve been Googling.

I’m very pro vaccine and I’m glad to be vaccinated and I think as a public health measure that’s been absolutely the right call.

But something has been going on with my heart since my second Pfizer jab. 5 days after it I had pretty nasty palpitations which left me short of breath and finding it difficult to talk. I also had chest pain. Since then nothing as dramatic but my heart rate is higher than it used to be at rest, and has gone through periods of being raised to about 110 just for basic standing up and walking about. It feels to me like it’s sometimes irregular and it feels like it’s beating harder than it should be. I think it’s also giving me headaches.

Unfortunately I do also have anxiety and so I’ve not gone to a doctor as I’m sure it will all be dismissed as part of this. I’m actually really not sure what to do. I’m wondering about getting a Fitbit to monitor it better so that I can give a doctor more concrete data. Otherwise I can’t see me being taken seriously.

I agree with this. I’ve had issues since my two Pfizer jabs (dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia to name a few- all common long covid symptoms). I’ve tried hard to reset my parasympathetic nervous system - deep breathing exercises, singing and cold showers. I think it really helped. Nearly six months out and symptoms 90% better. I also second vitamin b12 supplements
JS87 · 17/09/2021 09:34

I know others with issues like this. I suspect the rate is far higher than thought as most people don’t yellow card it. I’m sure most people recover but I think the spike protein has a number of vascular effects so it’s not a particularly great vaccine choice. I wish they’d chosen a different part of the virus to generate the vaccines against.

ATieLikeRichardGere · 17/09/2021 09:41

Does anyone know what type of Fitbit or similar would be best for monitoring heart health?

Confused10101 · 17/09/2021 10:53

That’s just lovely- so my choices are

Get second dose - get heart issues or possibly die

Don’t get second dose - get Covid and possible die but get vilified for your choice

Brilliant

@ATieLikeRichardGere I dug out my inspire 2 Fitbit and wearing it now- do if/when I get this second dose injected into me I can atleast show the Sara to a gp (not sure they listen tbh) and get some medical help…and not get dismissed by saying I’m ‘imagining’ or it’s my anxiety
