3rd dose vaccine

Anyone had one? Or know anyone who's had one? There's nothing on our GP website, and I don't like phoning as I know how hard it is to get through and how busy they are.

I think I may have answered my own question.

So-anyone having trouble getting a 3rd vaccine?

I can't get a 3rd one. GP says nothing to do with them, hospital say nothing to do with them and 119 say they aren't allowed to book 3rd jabs. I'm completely lost as to where to do. Apparently all GP and hospital centres were written too on 2nd September to offer jabs and theyy should invite people on their books elegible so I'm just hoping my GP which is useless has not been able to sort through their lists yet!

ALaDameLaisseTaPlace · 13/09/2021 21:50

That's crazy. I tried asking receptionist when I was having flu jab and she said it wasn't approved yet. I told her it definitely is, and she said they'd not heard anything. You'd think it would be a good idea to avoid more hospitalised cev people. Although I don't have high hopes for it working if 1 and 2 didn't. School being back just makes the risk even worse Confused

The Times is reporting tonight that the booster jab programme is only being launched from next week.

Booster programme is following the same priority system as previously so care home workers, over 80s and NHS staff first with everyone else eligible after that.

It also sounds like you only get your 3rd doses six months after your 2nd.

So I don't expect most people will be able to book in for some time yet.

Most of my friends in the over 50s group booked as quickly as they could. They had their second doses in mid-May so it will be November before they get it if they are eligible.

Thatsveryniceofyou · 13/09/2021 23:14

@ALaDameLaisseTaPlace I agree. Every time I pick up from school I'm anxious.

@RedToothBrush that's interesting. As my renal team told me the 3rd jab is srperste to the booster I.e specific for immunosuppressed people only. As it is being CEV I had my 2nd jab on 20 March so I'm at 6 months already.

To be honest it sounds like their isn't clear enough instructions yet

Salaman · 13/09/2021 23:54

My GP sounded baffled when I mentioned it to her but it is mentioned on the practice website!

ALaDameLaisseTaPlace · 14/09/2021 04:28

RedToothBrush yes I mean 3rd dose, not booster. Was approved on 2nd September for severely immunocompromised. General boosters are a separate offer being announced tomorrow maybe.

Just phoned gp again and receptionist just denies all knowledge. I asked for a call back from someone in charge.

I’m in the same boat - bit frustrating that it’s been announced but no one seems to be actually taking it forward

@RedToothBrush

I have LPA for elderly relative in a care home. Got a phone call earlier to say she'd had her booster this morning. I said I was surprised and was told it was being announced today (has been now) and the doctor was there so he has done them.

Fantastic news.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/09/2021 12:12

I'm eligible for the third dose (not booster) according to the JCVI guidelines. Its for people sufficiently immunocompromised that they may not have mounted an antibody defence with the first two doses. But my gp says they are only guidelines and he's not been told yet.

I've left a message for the clinic at the hospital asking them about it.

We are then supposed to get a booster after our third dose.

Pissinthepottyplease · 14/09/2021 12:16

It’s only been officially announced today so GP wouldn’t have been approved yet.

VictoriaBun · 14/09/2021 12:19

On t.v. now that all over 50s, healthcare workers, and those aged 16-49 with certain illnesses will get the booster. Full dose Pfizer or half dose Moderna.

NotMyCat · 14/09/2021 12:20

I'm immunocompromised and haven't heard anything yet, second dose for me was 1st May

ancientgran · 14/09/2021 12:23

@Pissinthepottyplease

It’s only been officially announced today so GP wouldn’t have been approved yet.
My relatives GP apparently knew about the announcement so he has done the elderly people in the home.
NotquitewhatImeant · 14/09/2021 12:25

It’s separate to the booster right? I though the third dose was supposed to be because we won’t have necessarily made enough antibodies from the two doses. And then we get a booster too? So 4 doses?!

onemouseplace · 14/09/2021 12:25

I'm immunocompromised and got the text to book just now - booked for this week.

ALaDameLaisseTaPlace · 14/09/2021 12:46

This thread already demonstrates the problem and confusion. 3rd dose is only for severely immunocompromised, but announcement today is about other cev, elderly, etc. I'm talking about 3rd dose for the most vulnerable 50 000 in cev

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/09/2021 13:12

Notquite. Exactly.

Worrysaboutalot · 14/09/2021 13:19

My GP is on the ball. Smile

They said once they have details of when they get the meds, they will contact those eligible. She said it was only given 6 months after the first two doses, that it was NOT a booster and it was given IN PLACE of the booster. I am to keep looking at their webpage for more information, as and when they get it.

Seeing as they missed me off the priority lists last time, I will keep an eye on it. But I feel comforted that they are up to date.

She also said they (GP?) were hoping to give the next Covid jabs with the flu vacs but looking less likely this will happen.

Motorina · 14/09/2021 13:28

Can anyone point me to the research base for booster doses, please? I'm NHS so will be in the category of people eligible for a booster dose.

I'm aware research was being done (I volunteered for it but wasn't selected) but am unsure if any results have yet been released.

I'd like to be in a position to make an informed decision on whether or not to have it, especially as I'm having monthly blood tests (another trial!) so know what I still have antibodies.

Thank you!

BIWI · 14/09/2021 13:30

What is the difference between a third dose and a booster?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/09/2021 13:36

The third dose is part of the primary vaccine schedule and isn't subject to waiting 6 months after the first course. The booster is a top up 6 months after the first course.

The vaccines are the same, it's just the timing and quantity. Those who have to have a third dose, will then have their booster 6 months after. (unless I guess there are more findings about this that alters recommendations.)

BIWI · 14/09/2021 13:39

Thanks OYBBK - I didn't know that.
