Concerts

Decisions decisions.

Would you go to a concert at an indoor venue, a big arena in Birmingham if that makes any difference in the next month or so?

We have tickets for a concert that was rescheduled from June 2020 and now the date is getting near, not sure we want to be in close proximity to that many people.

Both adults are double jabbed but some minor health issues and 2 teens, 16 yr old has had 1 vaccination and 13 yr old none.

I know the chances of being really ill are lower now the adults are vaccinated but is it worth the risk of being ill/ isolating.

Any thoughts welcome

Yes.

I live in the city and went to a busy Moseley Folk Festival, three other outdoor festivals and around 8 indoor gigs in the city.
I'm off to the NEC next month.

I'll be honest, the gigs have been busy and no SD, but I'd still go....until we can't.

middleager · 11/09/2021 00:36

@LilyPond2

I wouldn't feel comfortable with that at the moment (-double jabbed, early fifties). However, I am also thinking that the chance of your kids catching Covid at school this coming term is very high. So unless you are planning to isolate from your kids if you realise they have been in close contact with Covid, maybe it makes sense to accept you're highly likely to be exposed to Covid at some point between now and Christmas and that therefore there's not much point in avoiding the concert due to Covid risk.
This is my rationale.

I'm 48 with two kids in secondaries where cases are high. I also work in education. One child already caught Covid so I figure the other will too, so I may as well get out and about.

With Covid, it'll be when, not if.

Stuffin · 11/09/2021 07:07

Not keen on concerts but if I had tickets I would go.

Life is for living. I have been in enclosed buildings without a mask since things opened up and will continue to do so.

I would rather have an enjoyable shorter life with all its risks than stay avoiding the things that bring pleasure to me.

How long are you going to put those things off for? If you aren't bothered about cancelling then cancel but that is something that only you and your family can decide. How 'risky' other people view it shouldn't factor into your decision.

Pootle40 · 11/09/2021 07:20

Live for today. Thinking about all the lives cut short in 9/11 I really can't get worked up about Covid.

SwordfromtheStone · 11/09/2021 07:27

In the past week I’ve been to a festival, to see a comedian and to a 5000 capacity sold-out gig, all rescheduled. It’s been the best week after such a shit time and the enjoyment far outweighed the risk for me.

I’ve taken reasonable precautions (eg travelled early to avoid the tube), all events required a COVID pass - having (almost) normal life back, even if only for a week has given me a very much needed boost.

User875906 · 11/09/2021 07:36

I'm more concerned that I might have to wear a mask throughout as masks keep getting mentioned in the papers, now that would spoil my enjoyment

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/09/2021 07:46

Yes I absolutely would.

MsSquiz · 11/09/2021 07:52

I would. In fact, I went to a sold out show at Newcastle arena on Wednesday night (so around 10,000 people)

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and double jabbed and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn't wear a mask at all as I'm struggling with sickness and being too hot all the time. And although it felt very odd to be close to so many people, it also felt very normal.

There were about 20 people I noticed wearing masks on entry and when queuing for food and drinks, which hopefully made them more comfortable

No masks at any of the 12 or so gigs I've been to over the last six weeks.

We are not going until November which will probably be the worse time for any extra restrictions to be put in place, also got a couple of gigs rescheduled to next year but in summer so they should be all ok.

suredsun · 11/09/2021 08:56

I guess it depends how much you like the artiste and how likely it it that they will tour your way again. I have tickets for a music event in November which were purchased long before the pandemic and then rescheduled twice - to be honest I would not be buying new tickets for this now but as I have them, I expect we will go. Statistically, the chances are we will be fine and not catch anything.

Exactly this.... It seems many people still think they'll be able to avoid Covid forever, which is misguided..

The question is "if not now, when would you go?" We can't hide from Covid forever. By not going you're just delaying the inevitable for no gain/

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/09/2021 10:24

Absolutely no chance in hell.

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 11/09/2021 13:33

@Thewiseoneincognito

Absolutely no chance in hell.
Now there's a shock Grin

OP, yes, I would. I've been to a couple of smaller gigs over the past couple of months and they were wonderful - I had a little cry at the first one, even the band was a bit emotional (it was their first show since January 2020).

Who know when/if there'll be more restrictions - live life to the full now, just in case.

TheKeatingFive · 11/09/2021 13:39

Yup, wouldn’t hesitate.

ShowOfHands · 11/09/2021 13:39

@middleager how was Moseley? The festivals I've got tickets to were all cancelled again this year sadly. I saw Passenger last night and I think he played Moseley? I'm really missing festivals but have loved going to gigs in the last couple of weeks. I got quite emotional.

Kite22 · 11/09/2021 20:05

No masks at any of the 12 or so gigs I've been to over the last six weeks.

I've had an e-mail from the theatre this week asking that everyone (unless medically exempt) wears a mask throughout their time on the premises unless they are eating or drinking.

QuornStarMartini · 11/09/2021 20:19

Yes, we have tickets to a few in the next few months. I’m not vaccinated so as long as test is negative I’ll be there. I can’t wait, I’ve really missed live music.

SixthformSuzie · 11/09/2021 20:25

I've been to a fully packed Royal Albert Hall, it was fine.

whatswithtodaytoday · 11/09/2021 20:33

We've been super careful up till now, but it seems inevitable we'll get Covid by Christmas anyway as we have a child in nursery, so we're more or less back to normal. My partner is out playing a gig now in a crowded pub. We have tickets to a comedy gig (rescheduled) for October, and we're doing indoor activities if they're not super busy.

We're 40 and double vaxxed. My parents are still being really careful, waiting for their booster to see them through winter.

Floralnomad · 11/09/2021 20:38

I’d go , we went to the theatre in London last night . I’m CV , double jabbed and IMO COVID isn’t going away so we need to crack on with normal life .

olivethegreat · 11/09/2021 21:10

Yes have two musical theatre tickets for November and December . DD can work at home if she has to if we get exposed - arts are important as well as school

Restinblue · 11/09/2021 21:16

I have been to the cinema but wouldn’t be overkeen on the theatre or an indoor gig at the moment.

Having said that I would love to go to the Stereophonics and Tom Jones concert in December but the £95 ticket price put me off more than anything.

Badabingbadabum · 11/09/2021 21:25

Restinblue don't whatever you do then think that you can book some tickets for the Foo Fighters next year! You'll need a while to get over the price. I was surprised even before I realised I was looking at the price of one ticket, not two!

Redhotchilis · 11/09/2021 21:36

Go, enjoy yourself! We were at a festival Bank hol weekend(me,DH, both double jabbed, 2DCs , below 16), and have also been to 4 other gigs(2 indoors, 2 out) over the past few weeks. Due to attend another indoor gig(smallish venue )tomorrow night and my DH has just booked for him and DD to go the another the following week. We've tickets for indoor sporting events over the next couple of months too and DD and I are booked to see a show in London next month.

We do lfts a couple of times a week, have been fortunate enough to avoid covid until now due to following rules throughout. Now we're legally allowed to live again, we are. My DCs have been through enough over the last 18months.

The first gig we attended felt strange for the first 5 mins, after that we relaxed and had fun.

I am sure you won't regret it Smile
