3rd Jab

tootiredtospeak · 10/09/2021 17:48

My DP has been for his 3rd jab today text from the doctors and had it done there says there was a big queue. He is immunocompromised but not seriously ie cancer. He takes medication for inflammatory arthritis. My grandad who is 87 also takes medication for rheumatoid arthritis and he has heard nothing. When you search the news it says 3rd jabs haven't been signed off yet. Has anyone else had a 3rd one?

We've not had a sniff of news about when out highly vulnerable family member can get theirs.

Which is pretty annoying, and with booked flu jab fast approaching, it's looking likely it won't be safe to receive it until nearly October.

Which I'm sure wasn't the plan, but I'm ready to bet good money that no-one has checked with any patient groups about how to make this work round their existing appointments (not just jabs the whole shebang that some need). If they could have had it within say 5 days of the announcement, there could still have been 7+ days separation between Covid 3 and the flu shot

Lollyds · 11/09/2021 14:29

I had mine this morning too, also had a text from GP yesterday asking me to go. On immunosuppressants for RA

PheasantsNest · 11/09/2021 23:31

Not heard anything yet. I am immunosuppressed.

Percypigsareyummy · 11/09/2021 23:41

Received a letter this week to book 3rd jab, as immunosuppressed due to a heart transplant:

Wellbythebloodyhell · 12/09/2021 07:33

The vaccine centres I work within are starting the 3rd jabs this week very limited amount of people are selected for it, its not the whole of previous cat 4 CEV who are eligible. Text and letter invites have been sent by the GPs of those eligible. This is NW.

SpindleWhorl · 12/09/2021 07:46

I'm eligible (on immune suppressant) and have heard nothing.

I need notice as the medical advice from my Rheumatologist is to miss a dose of my medication, and have the vaccine in that gap.

I also have a flu jab booked, and I see others saing they have to be kept apart?

GoodnightGrandma · 12/09/2021 07:47

Different GP’s will start at different times.

GoodnightGrandma · 12/09/2021 07:48

At the moment there needs to be 7 days between Covid and any other vaccine. I’m expecting that to change soon.

nether · 12/09/2021 07:56

Yes, and with flu jab booked for next weekend, it looks as if the vulnerable person in my household won't be done until late September at the earliest.

But they could have been done in the days following the announcement, and then both jabs would have been done and had time to take effect by the end of the month.

It can't be shortage of jabs that's holding this up, and I really can't see why, for those with clear qualifying diagnoses, they could not have the further jab immediately, maybe by taking latest hospital letter with them?

GoodnightGrandma · 12/09/2021 07:57

My GP surgery put out a statement that flu vaccines are delayed, and those with appointments will be contacted.

nether · 12/09/2021 07:59

I'm just waiting for that to be the next boot to drop!

(Though our jabs are all booked at a pharmacist who does NHS shots, not at GP)

tootiredtospeak · 12/09/2021 09:30

Thing is though my DP isn't classed as CEV he was initially then got a letter in June 2020 to say he had been told to shield in error and it was a mistake. Not shielded since. Cant believe my 87 year old immunosuppressed Grandad wasnt before him but we are in different districts I guess.

I thought at some point they were considering doing flus and boosters for people on the same day? Our chemist has had flue jabs since at least tuesday. I think its a little known fact if you are eligible for an NHS flu jab you don't have to wait until your doctor asks you to come - you can pop into any chemist which offers them and sign a form. I know Boots and other chemists are offering flu appts - if you are worried maybe try and get a flu appt earlier and then when that's done cancel the GP flu appt? It was not well known our chemist had flu jabs and they had loads of spaces this week literally loads free.

If that's the case, then they really ought to have told the affected 3rd jab 500,000 by now. It's been ten days. It took 48hours to issue shielding notices, and the 'qualifying' condition is just as recognisable from the records now as then

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2021 21:58

My gp says they haven't been given any guidance yet.

RuthW · 12/09/2021 22:01

I call patients as part of my job. We haven't been asked to call anyone yet and no timelines have been given.

tootiredtospeak · 13/09/2021 10:53

Non of it makes sense my DP has had his third vaccine and was told it's not a booster it's because he is immunosuppressed and he will still have a booster as well. No mention of the flu jab yet.

Still waiting to hear about the '500,000 most vulnerable' shot

Any one know if that's just an autumn booster, or if thus group gets two shots thus autumn?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/09/2021 09:18

Argh, even my GP doesn't understand the difference between the primary dose and the booster dose. I had a very curt message back saying they didn't know about booster doses yet.

It's not a bloody booster dose!!!
I don't know what to do. I can attempt to get an appointment, except they won't make appointments to talk about the vaccine. And it would be at least two weeks away.

SpindleWhorl · 15/09/2021 09:40

@OhYouBadBadKitten, for now I'm just cracking on with my flu jab on Saturday (earliest I can get it). Thank goodness I got the pneumonia jab over with last year.

God knows what's happening with the 3rd covid jabs for the 500,000 immune-compromised. Now it's all about 'boosters' for 30 million over-50s.

My GP surgery won't discuss covid jabs either. Might try my prescribing consultant's advice line - there's an email address I think.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/09/2021 10:17

I can't get a flu jab either . No appointments available. Confused

8MinutesToSunrise · 15/09/2021 10:28

I'm immunosupressed.. Still waiting on news of the 3rd jab. In Norfolk.

SpindleWhorl · 15/09/2021 10:41

Oh bummer. Probably a stupid question, but have you trawled websites for appointments at Boots and other pharmacies, including local independent pharmacies and/or phoning the latter? I learned the hard way last year, after making the mistake of relying on my GP practice, that it was in fact a small pharmacy in my area who could fit me in after I fell on their mercy. (I couldn't start my prescribed biologic until after I'd had my flu and pneumonia jabs.)

There are sometimes cancellations that do then pop up as free appointments, so you could ask to go on an urgent waiting list?

But you've probably thought of all this.

ILookAtTheFloor · 15/09/2021 10:50

My nan is 94 and had her 2nd jab in January (3 week gap) she better be at the front of the queue!

MossyBottom · 15/09/2021 11:06

People are confusing booster jabs with 3rd doses of primary vaccine.
Those who are severely immunosuppressed (not everyone on immunosuppressive drugs) will get three doses as part of their initial vaccine.
Boosters are for everyone over 50 six months after their 2nd (or 3rd) doses.
