What about individuals with 1 dose

Are we classed as unvaccinated? Saw a post from an ICU nurse about unvaccinated- I’m 41 with 1 dose of Pfizer- second one in a few weeks. Am I classed as unvaccinated?

Are my chances if surviving Covid when I catch it, looks inevitable with no safety measures and child in school pretty low?

people are counted as vaccinated 2 weeks after the second jab.

You have some protection but not the full amount. But at 41 your chances of needing hospotalisation are pretty low anyway.

ifonly4 · 10/09/2021 10:20

Although, you've had once dose which will certainly give you some protection, in terms of a covid pass for travel, certain indoor events, I believe you need to be two weeks after your second vaccine to be classed as vaccinated.

Not sure about chances of surviving, but you're I'm sure you're far better off than someone who hasn't had the vaccine. It isn't necessary inevitable you'll catch covid as you have a child at school. I've worked in a school pre-covid, we've had children in bubbles but you really can't distance and masks/vizors usually come off after about an hour as some children can't understand us. As far as I know I haven't had covid. I had an antibody test in the summer and that showed I certainly hadn't caught it in the first part of the year.

What you can do is limit your own risks if you're concerned, shop at quiet times, try and distance, wear a mask and keep away from those that don't.

Confused10101 · 10/09/2021 10:39

@ifonly4 as of now or immediately- no travel plans and I don’t go out to socialise much. I go for walks etc but not to restaurants/cafes

I still wear a mask and work from home

My only exposure is via my daughter through school- her school didn’t have many cases last time but then there were safety measures in place - now with all that gone and the weather turning there is very little doubt in my anxious mind that she will catch it and bring it home

Husband is 47 and double vaccinated- so it’s me and her who are vulnerable

Hopefully a 7 year old won’t get it too badly

Which just leaves me..,it’s making me very nervous now

Are there no studies which show the effectiveness of 1 dose? Is that why it’s not discussed as much as 2 doses as there are more studies after dose 2?

Mindymomo · 10/09/2021 13:04

You are vaccinated, but not fully vaccinated. You have some protection but will have more once you are 2 weeks after second vaccination. I think those who refer to unvaccinated are those that haven’t had any.

BillyJoe111 · 10/09/2021 13:19

I’ve had one dose and will only have one dose - I’ve had some lasting effects that I’m now under neurology for, so there won’t be a second one (of anything).

So that leaves me in limbo I guess!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/09/2021 13:21

I caught Covid after one dose of Pfizer and I was fine.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/09/2021 13:22

Have you posted about this before under a different name?

Same here pretty much. Was ill for 2 days.
Chillychangchoo · 10/09/2021 13:57

Why have you left it so late to be double vaxxed at aged 41?

placemats · 10/09/2021 14:12

My son, 20, has to wait another week to have his 2nd jab as he had Covid in August. He is singly vaccinated with Pfizer.

TheWoleb · 10/09/2021 14:16

How are you 41 with only one vaccine?

You're not totally protected until you've had 2 but really, if you catch covid and at your age, you should be OK with just the one but no on can guarantee anything.
You've got the best chance getting the 2nd shot, and we will probably all need boosters every year too.

If it's the poster I think it is they suffer from major anxiety and was concerned about the blood clot issue so was initially scared to have the jab.
MossyBottom · 10/09/2021 14:52

Some newly released figures here on effectiveness of each vaccine after one or two doses.
Spectacular results for Astra Zeneka in particular.

I think this is misleading, and I wouldn't pick you up on it, but there's been a number of posters recently saying things like, "How come vaccinated people are still dying?"

You're never going to be totally protected. One vaccine will give you some protection, two will give more. Even if you had a million vaccines, you wouldn't be totally protected.

Confused10101 · 10/09/2021 15:23

@MossyBottom thank you- I’ve never seen the efficacy laid out like that..,
That helps a lot

I was due to get my AZ when the blood clot news broke out- it took me a long time to fight my anxiety to get the jab

OP posts:
Confused10101 · 10/09/2021 15:49

@BillyJoe111 I’m sorry to hear that- I’m not totally over the fear myself. I get this ‘cold’ feeling running down my leg (right) every now and again since I got the vaccine/ don’t know if it’s related but haven’t felt that before

I’m scared of the second dose- heart inflammation, Guillione Barr and plenty more if you read the yellow card- but we are stuck between a rock snd a hard place…

@BillyJoe111 do you mind me asking what sort of neurological probs you have had and was this after Pfizer by any chance?

AZ. Short story - the severe post vac headache has never gone away, even with all the combinations of drugs they try it only ever dulls it.

Quite debilitating living with a never ending headache.

Confused10101 · 10/09/2021 16:14

My first dose was Pfizer to be clear…

Wondering the same here!
I'm now 8 weeks past my first dose (Moderna) and although I've chased it, apparently no one in my neck of the woods is doing the second jab. I'd have to travel 47 miles to my nearest place, I don't drive and I have have child in school plus I'm rural, there is NO public transport here.
I guess I wait until there is a centre I can access.. or I stop with one jab. 🙄

A friend of dh is having the same problem with Modena

Are you people really this bored and have nothing to do in life that you post utterly pointless questions on here waiting for a qualified person to give you an answer or you just take anyone's random thoughts on this topic?!?
You should ask your GP this question!!!

HermioneWeasley · 10/09/2021 19:04

When nobody was vaccinated the UK mortality rate was around 1%.

You are 41 and have no underlying health conditions.

The AZ complications were very rare and you were not in an age demographic where there was any elevated risk.

You need some help with your health anxiety.
