Catching within your household

If one person in your house tested positive and other household members have gone on to catch from them - how long until they/you got symptoms and a positive (and lateral or PCR?)
Thanks X

Our DC caught it and one week later l tested positive. DH, then tested positive two weeks later. Interestingly, our younger DC has been fine!

REignbow · 07/09/2021 14:46

I should add, that my symptoms have been more akin to a bad viral infection/cold (no fever and no lose of taste). Whereas, my DH is very poorly with it (we are both double vaccinated).

ParadiseLaundry · 07/09/2021 14:48

It took a week of living in a house with DH to catch it off him (and 11 days after we'd both been in contact with a positive case) before I caught it. I'm unvaccinated too and DH was double jabbed. The kids were testing negative until my first day out of isolation when they both tested positive.

minimecantrollerskate · 07/09/2021 15:03

Family friends - their DC had it first, then 10 days later his mum got it and 10 days after that, his dad got it. So a very long time in between each positive test.

Blackopal · 07/09/2021 15:06

5 days between positive tests for us here

idontlikealdi · 07/09/2021 15:06

Dh tested positive first, I got a positive lift 12 hours after his PCR and me and the kids all had positive PCRs within 24 hours.

lucymagoo · 07/09/2021 15:07

A friend of mine lived with her partner who was positive, she tested positive 11 days after him. I'm currently isolating from my partner (not easy in a one-bed flat with a baby) who tested positive 8 days ago. I'm still negative on lateral flows and a PCR on Saturday.

WillaWeatherspoon · 07/09/2021 15:10

It took me 4 days to catch delta from DH, and he stayed away from the rest of us as much as possible. Neither DC caught it despite being in close contact with both of us for the isolation period.

stripedbananas · 07/09/2021 15:24

Good question.

One family member I live with has covid - I tested pcr negative with no symptoms - am about to get another household member to take pcr test but wondering now whether to wait a couple more days or not as neither of us have to self isolate

Probably best to do today really

stripedbananas · 07/09/2021 15:26

Not sure whether to carry on with daily LFT and then if positive do pcr and once 10 days are up definitely do the pcr on final member

How did you know it's delta?

Wonder if this as it's hugger viral load to catch from partner

Wow that's huge gaps and a long stretch of disruption!

We are 5 in two bed flat - impossible to isolate - not even trying... but then it's one of the kids that has it - DD who has it was in bed wit me all night - but husband went to couch...

Two days in between our tests but, to be honest, DS1 had had symptoms for about a week. We tested him once DS2 exhibited more classic symptoms and failed LFT 4 to 5 days later . Then me, symptoms about 4 days after DS2. DH never developed symptoms.

REignbow · 07/09/2021 16:45

@PlateSpinnerJuggler my DC are 9 and 3.

I’ve been sharing a bed with the younger DC prior to being tested and now as my DH is quite poorly.

When my DN had it last year, my SIL didn’t get it. She has it now and my DN is testing negative.

Badgerstmary · 07/09/2021 17:00

My dn caught it at a festival. Came home, felt ill next day. My db felt ill 2 days later. It can be pretty quick.

LSLLM · 07/09/2021 17:03

I caught it, locked myself in my room but kids still got it roughly 10 days later

LongBlobson · 07/09/2021 17:06

DH and DD both tested positive 10 days ago - DH had mild cold symptoms a few days before that. Ds and I have tested negative on 2 PCRs and I've had multiple negative lateral flow tests too. Thought we were in the clear but after reading some of these maybe I shouldn't relax just yet...

lucymagoo · 07/09/2021 17:27

@PlateSpinnerJuggler yeah I've been living in the living room with the baby, sleeping on the sofa, my husband has locked himself in the bedroom and we have been alternating in the kitchen and bathroom with frequent hand washing. We have started to relax a bit today but now reading this I'm worried Grin
