I'm so nervous about DC going back to school

I'm really trying hard not to be but I just feel like it's a ticking time bomb and I'm going to be on high alert for any cough, sneeze or sniffle. I kind of wish they would hurry up and catch it so I can stop thinking about it! Anyone else?

@Newgirls

We’ve just tested the whole secondary school so anyone with it isn’t coming in. And then twice weekly tests for all so we are in a much better position than in the past. Far more handwashing and gel everywhere - school has never been so hygienic!
Very sorry to burst your bubble but LFT's are fairly inaccurate and it only takes one to spread it.

Also since the isolation rules are so shit, you will be in a worse position shortly.

I'm from Scotland and already we have had 1/2 of the children at a local secondary off school. Literally HALF of the school role.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/09/2021 19:11

That is 200 out of 400 children. I like your positivity though :)

SyIviescup · 02/09/2021 19:13

They need to do this so as many people catch it before the winter flu bug starts going round.

Surely that's exactly the same position as before.

We’ve all had covid so I’m less worried than I was before we had it.
I’m still trying to keep us as healthy as possible - vitamin d daily for everyone, lots of fresh fruit and veg for vitamin c and some exercise. Trying to get the immune system working as well as possible will help.

Not given it a second thought.

Is Scotland doing the same as England is with isolation do you know? The plan for England schools is children only isolate with a positive test. Classmates continue going in as usual. That in itself suggests it's going to spread more than before. I suppose it's inevitable we'll all catch it at this point.

To answer the OPs question though, yes I'm feeling a little nervous since the long covid figures in children have been in the news. I've had a child suffer post viral fatigue. It was awful. Hardly feeling a little unwell and being very tired. They were very, very poorly.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/09/2021 21:49

In Scotland if someone tests positive in a family @Popcornriver then eveyone needs to have a PCR test to prove they are negative. You cannot go into work or school or do anything until the test has come back. Once it has, the family members who have tested negative can go back to work provided the are under 18 and/or have had two vaccinations and 3wks have passed post vaccination. If an adult has only one jab they need to self isolate as usual. If it is a child, they can go back to school despite members of the family being positive.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/09/2021 21:52

So technically you could have 30 children in a class, each having a member of family testing positive at home isolating, I think the children need to have a negative PCR too though before going back to school. However as we know, it takes time for covid to sometimes show up in tests so the spread will be of huge proportions at school.
