Would you have still had the vaccine if it didn't affect travel?

Please, no virtue signalling, just after honest opinions. If you could travel abroad without the vaccine, would you have had it?

Bearing in mind the current scientific information I.e. transmission is still possible, immunity wears off in months etc.

What about the booster? Will you have three vaccinations in the space of one year? Or be willing to be called an anti vaxxer, conspiracy theorist or COVID denier if you don't? Will you give up overseas travel or have a third vaccine?

I had it because of travel and vaccine passports for other events etc. I will not be having a booster I don’t think it’s necessary and I wonder when it will end, will we be having boosters forever?

I have never been in the slightest bit concerned about catching covid even when I was pregnant throughout the first lockdown and have been out and about mixing and going to what ever is open. I am fit and healthy and never ill, I look after my body with exercise and a healthy lifestyle and didn’t feel like I needed the vaccine to protect myself from covid. I am fully supportive of boosters for vulnerable people but not for everyone.

Watapalava · 01/09/2021 22:11

im with katie 100%. I had vaccine purely for covid passport

PandoraP · 01/09/2021 22:11

Well unfortunately the fit and healthy also die from Covid 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes to all the jabs from me too

Cyrsethatballoon · 01/09/2021 22:15

All the jabs here and not particularly because of travel.

You flew off the handle very quickly didn't you.....

ilovesooty · 02/09/2021 01:25

Yes, any jabs on offer please.

MareofBeasttown · 02/09/2021 07:07

Yes

Yes. I will have any boosters necessary. I had minimal.side effects as did every single person I know, so I dont see it as a big deal. I worry as much about side effects as I do about getting killed when crossing the road. I know you find this hard to accept but off MN, I am sure plenty of people think like me.

HungryHippo11 · 02/09/2021 07:10

Yes I don't even have a passport

HelloMissus · 02/09/2021 07:16

I’ve had both jabs to be able to do anything and everything, including travel.
Yes, I’ll have a booster if I’m offered.
As far as I can see they’re the only way out of restrictions.

VanCleefArpels · 02/09/2021 07:22

I don’t know anyone whose only motivation for getting vaccinated was related to travel. It was primarily to prevent serious illness and hospitalisation should we get Covid. A nice secondary effect is the lower chance of transmission to others especially vulnerable family members. A very distant last motivation was the possibility that without the vaccine the ability to do a variety of activities including travel might be more difficult without it. And yes if invited for any number of additional jabs, I’ll be there with my sleeve rolled up in a heartbeat

PluggingAway · 02/09/2021 07:22

I had the vaccine because I want all this shit to be over with so we can get on with our lives. I see antivaxxers as a huge hindrance to this. I would hate to be part of the problem.

PandoraP · 02/09/2021 07:25

@PluggingAway

Amen!!

Watapalava · 02/09/2021 07:25

OP

You won’t getcrealistic answers on the covid thread

In reality many people I expect for their vaccine for travel or convenience especially those younger

The covid board is full of those on the far extreme of covid - those who are more anxious etc so will likely of got it for protection

Whereas real life does not reflect these boards hence why festivals pubs and shops are full

89redballoons · 02/09/2021 07:27

Yes, I don't want to get badly ill from Covid and the vaccine reduces the chances of that substantially. I've had two Pfizer jabs and had barely any side effects so would definitely have a booster if offered. In a normal year I get the flu jab privately too.

MareofBeasttown · 02/09/2021 07:48

Actually, I think MN is full of people incredibly anxious about getting the vaccine; in real life most people I know aren't worrying all night about blood clots given the chances are so tiny. They are just getting on with it.

I don't know where you would put me; I got the vaccine and continue to take public transport and go to restaurants/shops, so I would not call myself anxious.

balkanscot · 02/09/2021 09:14

YES!! As it happened I was in the CEV (chemotherapy) group at the time of my 1st and 2nd jab, but I would have had the vaccine even if I wasn’t. I get annual flu jabs via work.

I haven’t travelled abroad since August 2019, have got an 84 year old mum in a nursing home abroad who in the meantime broke her hip. And I had to deal with cancer recurrence in 2020. So, a pretty shitty situation and I cannot wait any longer - I am planning a visit during October half term.

The country that I am from has introduced 270 days expiration date (starting from the date of your second jab), so the more I postpone my long overdue visit, the more it’s likely I won’t be let in from January 2022 (had my 2nd dose in early May).

No idea what’s happening re: booster. I am no longer on the CEV list as I have finished active treatment in February.

gogohm · 02/09/2021 09:36

Yes, it's to protect me, protect others and reduce the spread. It works - if you look at the distribution of cases currently they are far more common in younger groups who are unvaccinated

Whitney168 · 02/09/2021 09:38

@clemensiadove

Well fuck me. Congratulations to you.
What a very weird response when people answered the questions you asked LOL.

Yes to all for me too.

Whitney168 · 02/09/2021 09:40

@herecomesthsun

The Telegraph have are doing a poll of its readership and 82% would accept a booster, if that's of interest?
Would be fascinating to see the differences in responses if all the different levels of paper did this poll across the different readership demographics.
MumsBiscuits · 02/09/2021 09:44

Yes to all.

Admittedly i'm travelling soon (to see family) but that's just a bonus. I am fit and healthy and have no real concern about catching it myself but others aren't so fortunate so lowering transmission is a priority.

VikingsandDragons · 02/09/2021 09:50

Yes, 100%. If not for my CEV relatives then because I've just watched a friend loose her 32 year old husband (with no underlying health conditions) to covid. Their kids are younger than ours. Am I heck not doing everything in my power so my kids can grow up with both parents living.

I suspect the OP was hoping for an anti - vax leaning pile on. It turns out people have a variety of reasons for choosing to be vaccinated, some of which are unrelated to travel. For some reason the OP is annoyed by this.

zafferana · 02/09/2021 10:27

I'd definitely have had the vaccine anyway, because I don't like getting ill with anything. I willingly have, and pay for, the flu jab every winter for the same reason.

I've actually already had a booster, because I got one in my other country this summer (different vaccine to the one I got in the UK).

I am the complete opposite of an anti-vaxxer!

Benjispruce5 · 02/09/2021 10:50

Yes . My decision was to do with my health and that of everyone else’s protection.
Hearing about Portugal allowing non vaxxed travellers in has made me mentally cross it off as a destination as that’s where all the anti vaxxers will go to!

BeenAroundTheWorldAndIII · 02/09/2021 12:10

Honestly, I had the vaccine because I thought it would buy me the freedom to go on holiday (booked pre covid) for a special event with the family. The holiday didn't happen. I'm not an anti vaxxer, and I'm not a covid conspiracy theorist but I don't think I'd be willing to have endless boosters. I very much doubt my democratic would be included in any booster program anyway which does leave me asking what the point was really (or the point in effectively forcing the young into submission for it) when we will likely not be offered the booster and immunity wears off.

LineofFruity · 02/09/2021 12:15

The ability to travel was a huge motivating factor but I’d have had them anyway.

As it stands most of where I want to travel is still on the red list anyway.
