If DS tests positive on PCR which I suspect he will - would you isolate?

Both DS have a cough and feel unwell, LFT coming back negative but took them for a PCR today as they have symptoms, both have had a single vaccine. Hopefully PCR will come back negative and they just have a different bug. I am a worrier and if they test positive will keep a very low profile even though I do not need to isolate as double vaccinated. But my question is that I work for myself and should be working at the weekend where I will be working with other people -staff and customers. If I continue to test every day negative as I have been so far would you continue to work outside of the home. It is not a job I can do wfh. I'm torn. please be gentle my anxiety is bad at the best of times

I am likely to be in a similar situation soon as I am self employed and have two sons returning to school.
Personally if one or both is positive (I am vaccinated) I will do at least one PCR as advised and daily LFTs and as long as all negative and I am well I intend to just carry on.

Dghgcotcitc · 31/08/2021 15:28

I can wfh anyway I wouldn’t socialise I would pop
Out for a walk or something though in that situation so not complete isolate but more than normal

lannistunut · 31/08/2021 15:30

I would isolate as much as actually possible, yes. I do not agree with the policy change.

PurpleDaisies · 31/08/2021 15:31

I wouldn’t isolate but I’d be as careful as possible when out.

ineedtocalmdown · 31/08/2021 15:42

I'm happy not socialise but working is different - morally I feel terrible if I work but it is allowed if I test regularly - just don't know what to do !

You just need to follow the rules as set out. There is no need for all this hand wringing and drama. You can go to work. Go to work.

whiteonesugar · 31/08/2021 15:55

We are in this situation now. We are not isolating but not socialising, also testing every other day. I feel less guilty about it than I did a couple of days ago.

carlywurly · 31/08/2021 16:12

Colleague had this. I am bloody glad he didn't follow guidelines and did actually isolate because he was then really ill a couple of days later and would have spread it all round work.

My work don;t want us to do this because they don;t want us to infect colleagues, causing a wave of isolations!

I hope more places think like that.

It really is a stupid change of policy, presumably it was written pre-Delta and the government are being stubborn?
Siameasy · 31/08/2021 16:40

Yes I would do tests and continue to work

Whiskers4 · 31/08/2021 16:51

If you've been double vaccinated, then you can work as long as you don't have any symptoms. If it's not essential for you to work, then some would certainly understand if you choose not to. If I have contact, my employer requires me to take a PCR test within three days, and I then have to have take LFTs for seven days following. Providing each are negative, I can go in every day - you might feel the latter is a sensible option.

lunar1 · 31/08/2021 17:09

DH and I are in agreement that if someone in our household tests positive we will isolate. I don't agree with the policy change on this.

whiteonesugar · 31/08/2021 17:09

Our work have said if you come into contact with a positive case to wfh if you can and if you can’t to do LFT before coming in. I’m taking this approach with school and nursery too.

JustABloodyMinute · 31/08/2021 18:23

Can you do a PCR? They're more accurate and would give you more peace of mind.

brownmouser · 31/08/2021 18:34

I’ve been in this situation and haven’t isolated - but have done the pcr and daily LFTs. I’ve also told anyone I’ve needed to meet, so they had the choice about whether to meet or not. I’ve also worn a mask and been careful about hygiene.

People in shops etc have been so obnoxious about not wearing masks and aggressive about it, that I can’t be overly bothered to comply now it’s clear that the government really just accept Covid will be endemic.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/08/2021 18:57

Ds is positive and both dh and I are keeping a very low profile although we did go for a walk the other day. Both of us are negative PCR and daily LF tests. Dh went in for a meeting, he told work the situation and they said come in.

bonbonours · 31/08/2021 18:58

That's true but it's hard to judge when to do one. You could do it too soon and be negative then test positive later. I would do PCR about half way through the 10 days and LFTs every other day, and go to work.
holidaynearlyover · 31/08/2021 19:38

As a teacher I have no choice and will have to continue to work 🤷🏼‍♀️

ineedtocalmdown · 31/08/2021 19:54

@brownmouser did you manage to stay negative, ive banished DS upstairs !

So far!! And I’ve been really cuddly with dd who’s been so upset. All double jabbed apart from her. Fingers crossed…

ineedtocalmdown · 31/08/2021 20:40

@brownmouser how far in are you, mine is a fear of spreading it unintentionally but by not isolating I wouldn't be breaking any rules and of course if they do test positive I will be able to a PCR with no symptoms, im doing LFTs

OP posts:
brownmouser · 31/08/2021 21:04

Tomorrow is final day or dd isolation…. So I guess I need a couple more weeks to be sure. But nothing yet on LFTS and feel fine except when I think about it and instantly imagine all the symptoms…

Schools won’t. I’m a teacher and think it’s madness that I can have 3 people at home with Covid and go into work where I’ll have close contact with hundreds of people a day.
