Covid lingering symptoms/Long Covid support thread

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2021 11:11

Hello

As agreed with a few on the double vaxxed and feeling ugh thread, I am starting a supportive thread for those still suffering delta related symptoms. I don't want to tread on any toes as am aware there is a longstanding thread but some of us are newer to this horrible business.

I'll kick off : tested positive on 6 August. Initial symptoms were nausea, anxiety and impending doom, followed by short lived cough and then vomiting and nausea. Seen in A and E around Day 6 and then admitted to hospital on Day 14 with a flare up of gastric symptoms. Now in endless cycle of fatigue, night sweats, broken sleep and nausea with twitching jelly legs. I have missed out on every planned event for my summer holiday and very frustrated and sad. Had my second jab 16th May.

Come and join me for general moral support, kind words, anxious moments.

How is everyone?

I now have that sodding horrible 'not Covid' virus that's going round...no masks at work, no distancing = everyone is ill.

Worse cough than I had with covid, a temperature and aches and pains. No gastric stuff, thank God.

Why me,she wails.

GP investigating stomach stuff and blood pressure.

Hello @Piggywaspushed
That sounds horrible. Teacher DS has had the filthiest fley cold.
Does your GP think BP and stomach problems are all covid related?

I am feeling great. This week I feel almost all my lingering symptons have cleared. The only thing left is stamina, I am trying to up my exercise day by day.

CatAlice · 26/09/2021 11:08

Name change fail there!

Sonata13 · 26/09/2021 11:41

@Piggywaspushed I hope you feel better soon. Sending healing vibes!

Piggywaspushed · 26/09/2021 11:57

Ha! I spotted you anyway! Smile

I think the GP is just cancelling a load of stuff out before proceeding with anything.

Thanks for the link @Piggywaspushed

Please can I join?

Had both vaccines but tested positive on Sept 18th after dd2 brought it home from school.

Dd1 and dd2 had it and recovered quickly.
My isolation ends tonight but I still feel terrible. Coughing, very short of breath, fatigue etc.

I'm supposed to be going back to work on Wednesday but I can't see how I will manage (Reception class teacher). How have everyone else's conversations with work gone?

I really hoped I would be feeling better this week but if anything I feel worse. I have just ordered a pulse oximeter from Amazon. Has anyone else found one of these to be helpful at all?

It's been a really tough few weeks (including lots of unrelated hospital trips for dd2 - MRI scan etc). I would happily fast forward the next 3 months right now.
It looks like dh and dd3 might have covid now too (just waiting for PCR results).

Piggywaspushed · 27/09/2021 13:50

I am a teacher too!

I didn't go back to work on the training day and staggered return although it was all at my own behest. I have had several days off since, including today so it fluctuates. I seem to have picked up a flu type bug : not sure whether I can link this to Covid or just bad luck.

Pulse oximeter very good for settling mind if you think you feel breathless - or obviously telling you of you need to be concerned.

Teaching is one of those jobs where it is so hard to take time off, so we feel guilty - but if you rush back you will have a relapse. You don't sound well enough, so start those conversations today.

Hope DH and DD3 are OK!

@thirdistheonewiththehairychest
I was about to post on this thread when I saw your post. Don't rush back, take a few more days or a week if possible. I'm a SEN 121 and went back the day after isolation ended, I felt guilty. I made a huge mistake. I hope your DH and DD are OK.

I am CEV group 6, caught covid from my DC, I tested positive 3/9/21, and have been out of isolation two weeks. I don't feel any improvement from day 10. One DC has appeared to bounce back, the other has odd bruising and aches and pains. I have awful fatigue, muscle and joint paint, particularly in my hips, legs and knees. I'm resting as much as possible, going to bed early, taking all my usual supplements plus a high dose vit D. But nothings helping. Any advice or tips? Please

Hi everybody, can I join?

I am 48, female, had Covid 3 weeks ago, caught off my son from school.

Covid floored me, took me to my bed for days, although thankfully nothing more serious! I am double AZ vaccinated, last dose June.

Three weeks on and I am still exhausted, not sleeping of a night, headaches, sinus issues and brain fog/dizziness.

I'm currently signed off, but even the simplest task is stressful right now. I have a pretty demanding stressful job and have no idea how I'll cope.

How is everybody else doing?

cakeflower · 12/10/2021 15:04

@middleager hope you feel better soon. Just to reassure you - I felt much the same at three weeks post first symptoms and worried I was getting long covid. But after about 4 weeks I started to feel back to normal as that sinus congestion and dizzy/fog feeling finally cleared and after 5-6 weeks i finally felt completely fine again.

middleager · 12/10/2021 15:44

Thanks @cakeflower that is reassuring!

Glad you are feeling better. It is worrying in the thick of it, so I have some hope of returning to normal health.

dianec401 · 13/10/2021 07:57

Hi middleager, I posted earlier in the thread and have been meaning to come back and update. Your post has prompted me.

I thought I was recovering in the very early days after the initial dose wore off a bit but I too had lingering quite debilitating symptoms for some weeks afterwards. I felt I was making no progress for 3-4 weeks but then I gradually started coming out of it. I still don’t feel quite right but am able to function and back to about 80 percent wellness. Although my stamina isn’t what it was I’m doing pretty ok now and for the past two weeks have felt like myself again.

I think a lot of us think once we’re out of bed and over the cold/flu like part we will just recover normally but it’s not really like that in my experience. But that doesn’t mean you won’t make progress.

I too was worried about long Covid but I didn’t try and be ‘strong’. I listened to my body, didn’t push myself, kept what energy and focus I had for the absolute priority jobs and rested the rest of the time. Standards were let slip (not easy) but I do think that paid off for me.

Obviously I know not everyone is that lucky and my heart goes out to anyone who continues to experience symptoms. But hopefully you too will be out of this within the next week or so.

Take care, try not to worry and rest!

middleager · 15/10/2021 00:19

@dianec401

Thanks so much for taking the time to post.
I'm so glad that things have improved for you - it gives me hope.

Rainydays55 · 14/11/2021 19:10

Hi, how’s everyone feeling now? I’m on day 12, first day out of isolation and ive had a rubbish day because I’m feeling worse than yesterday :-( so tired, headache , body ache, really freaking out it’s not getting better and getting upset about the thought of long Covid.

jimbobalot · 24/04/2022 17:05

have you all improved?

trying to find an LC support
thread…

Still ill…

Piggywaspushed · 24/04/2022 17:52

Hi jimbob. Any thread that is started seems to vanish after a while. I almost feel like @MNHQ could set us up with a board as we can be overlooked on the bunfight Covid board.

Sorry to hear you are suffering. What's the main thing?

There was a story in the Guardian I think about ow long people's symptoms linger.

I'm 8 moths on and still very tired, still weird sense of smell, insomnia, occasional high BP, and palpitations. But, since more women suffer this, it is very hard to separate from eg perimenopause. I wonder who these mythical people are who have tests run and participate in trials. No one has contacted me since I left hospital , apart form an invitation form a uni to participate in physio/exercise trials, which I don't think I need.

Thanks @Piggywaspushed Its been 18 months and I’ve shed many a random symptom - thankfully- and I’m left with just extreme fatigue and post exertion malaise and very low BP, plus a bit of ear pain, occasional lung pain, poor word finding.

I am too ill to exercise and each time I try I have become far worse than before the exercise…

As time goes on it’s hard not to be a little jealous of all my friends and associates who have just bounced back and who now have their lives back!

are you managing to work or exercise at all @Piggywaspushed ? I really miss both. They kept me ticking.

Piggywaspushed · 25/04/2022 19:23

Yes, I go to work, although it wipes me out, even more than usual!

I am afraid I hate exercise so it hasn't affected that bit.

The reaching for words thing I hate. I find it frustrating. And my typos have got even worse.

Toast still smells like poo...

Are you all finding your work places supportive? I'm 2 nearly 3 months in and think mine are a bit surprised it's still affecting me
