Covid lingering symptoms/Long Covid support thread

Hello

As agreed with a few on the double vaxxed and feeling ugh thread, I am starting a supportive thread for those still suffering delta related symptoms. I don't want to tread on any toes as am aware there is a longstanding thread but some of us are newer to this horrible business.

I'll kick off : tested positive on 6 August. Initial symptoms were nausea, anxiety and impending doom, followed by short lived cough and then vomiting and nausea. Seen in A and E around Day 6 and then admitted to hospital on Day 14 with a flare up of gastric symptoms. Now in endless cycle of fatigue, night sweats, broken sleep and nausea with twitching jelly legs. I have missed out on every planned event for my summer holiday and very frustrated and sad. Had my second jab 16th May.

Come and join me for general moral support, kind words, anxious moments.

The ME Association website has a section on Long Covid as many aspects, it being viral in origin. are similar to us ME/CFS sufferers,

Well worth a read; also Action for M.E

Piggywaspushed · 12/09/2021 14:34

Just did my antibody test I was sent. I am assuming I will have plenty!

@Piggywaspushed I did my monthly test last week for VirusWatch. It was positive for N and S antibodies Grin
I was actually hoping DH would have covid ABs meaning he had been asymptomatic but no, he was negative.
We don't get a number with these tests so I'm going to pay for one to see what the actual numbers of each type are. I know it's not all about ABs but I'm curious as to whether my vaccine ABs are really low.

Piggywaspushed · 12/09/2021 19:08

I think the one I did just does the N antibodies so am guessing it will be positive. I too would love to know amounts.

Good news! My first day out with friend for pub lunch after feeling ill since last week in July. I almost felt normal but we didn't do much walking and now I feel seriously exhausted.
It's cheered me up so much. I've been going so stir crazy staring at the same walls everyday. Best wishes to all of you.

@Itis6oclocksomewhere

Hi everyone. Been back at work over a week now and thought I was doing ok. However, today I feel that I've taken a step back. My throat is sore, I'm coughing (the cough wasn't a major issue for me before), my chest feels tight and I feel as if I'm coming down with a cold. This might be TMI but I had a bout of diarrhoea today too. Wondering if I've pushed myself too hard or is it another illness? Yes to losing a bit of hair too. I've certainly noticed more on my pillow and in my hairbrush.
I don’t know if this is reassuring or the opposite but I have had the same symptoms for the past 4 or so days. I feel DREADFUL. My chest and lungs are sore, I feel coldy and fluey, I’ve had diarrhoea a couple of times, I’m off my food, my concentration is completely off. I’ve had long covid for over 18 months but this is a particularly awful week for me. Maybe we’ve both picked up another virus and it’s not really the long covid at all this time.
Sonata13 · 13/09/2021 20:02

I'm wondering if there is a relapsing then remission nature to long covid as there is to M.E.
Allwillbefine I wonder if you have been pushing yourself too hard and caused a nasty relapse of symptoms. Or does the general immunity get compromised and then you pick up every bug going? Is the flu jab a good idea? Will that cause another relapse? I'm not sure what to do for the best. I seem to catch everything! And everything I catch always lasts for ages. Wish you all better.

CatAlice · 14/09/2021 09:51

@Piggywaspushed. Got my antibody test result back. The range is >0.8 U/mL for a positive result. Mine came back as exceeding 2500 Grin.
I'd really love to know what it was before, since a positive result could have been as low as 0.8.
Over six weeks now and I feel so much better in many ways. It's just the walking. More than a slow 15 minute walk and my legs are like jelly and I'm exhausted.
Taste and smell is still about 50% as it was from about week 2.

@Itis6oclocksomewhere how are you now? Do you think it was a covid relapse or another bug?

@Sonata13 that's good to hear. I know what you mean about stir crazy. Trying to find stuff to do that is not physically demanding.

Piggywaspushed · 14/09/2021 13:24

Oh, wow, you are all antibodied up!! Good news!

@Itis6oclocksomewhere someone at work today was complaining about a virus he’s got today - off his food, mild diarrhoea, achy all over etc. It’s making me think that you and I have caught whatever this is. It really is making me feel terrible. Of course, it could be Covid again but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Piggywaspushed · 16/09/2021 17:02

I have antibodies. Not a huge surprise but yay anyway!

CatAlice · 16/09/2021 17:27

@Piggywaspushed congratulations 🤣. At least there's some bonus from it all.

Still here!

I'm still feeling rough. I typed out a long response yesterday and then lost it.

Hope everyone is ok and beginning to improve.

CatAlice · 17/09/2021 13:41

Hi @Itis6oclocksomewhere. Sorry you're still feeling rough. I think you started around the same time as me. I am lucky to be retired, I certainly wouldn't be able to work.
I feel fine now at home. It's only when I try to go for a walk I struggle. My legs have had enough after about 500m. I also get out of breath. The wierdest thing is that I normally have a permanent cough due to a lung condition and I have no cough now. DH thinks it's a miracle but I'm sure it's something temporary as my lungs do feel odd.

Piggywaspushed · 17/09/2021 13:51

I'm off work today. Was sweating all night and had stomach pains . This may be advancing age, though...

Hello there, I'm new to the thread but this is the first time I've found anything describing my symptoms and am so relieved - misery loves company! :)
I'm mid fifties and overweight but not classed as vulnerable. Have had a pretty stressful and busy year so immune system probably not at its best. AZ jabbed back in May.

Contracted Covid on 3rd August (assuming it's Delta), symptomatic from 7th and unwell for a week with cold symptoms, fever, cough, fatigue. Recovered partially although still had fatigue, sweats and tender tummy. But I was able to function.
From 27th August I had intermittent but quite nasty bouts of diarrhoea and ongoing nausea. On 1st September I broke out in a rash/hives all over my body which were addressed effectively by antihistamines.
For the next two weeks I felt like my digestive system has been impaired, I thought I was getting a UTI /kidney infection (which thankfully didn’t materialise but I was tender and had lower back pain etc) was very fatigued, with night sweats and waves and waves of nausea. Sense of taste and smell comes and goes but is currently gone and I'm left with a funny stale/burning smell all the time.
Nothing normally puts me off my food and I also love a glass of wine but I have no appetite and haven’t had a drink since all this started. Not like me at all! Every cloud…
Began to feel better yesterday and had walk for the first time in weeks. Am crossing fingers that this will not be short-lived and that I'll gradually feel better and better as the weeks go on. But am not going to push myself. Listening to others on here I think over-doing it or leaping back into everyday life too quickly will only bring set backs. I’m normally a very busy person with a full active life so this won’t be easy.
Doctor has been sympathetic but puzzled. Not sure if it's a viral infection, after effects of Covid or hormone related. I'm on HRT and awaiting blood test results. And hoping to see gastroenterologist at some point.
I have never felt anything like this and do feel it's Covid related but until now hadn't come across people with nausea, kidney issues etc. Thank you for setting up this thread. It’s good to know I’m not going mad and other people are having similar strange side effects.

Piggywaspushed · 17/09/2021 15:38

Oh, that does sound just like me. And as women in our 40s and 50s, we question every symptom!

OP posts:
Sonata13 · 17/09/2021 16:09

Just to add that the first time I had covid I had a persistent uti and pains in my kidneys. Had kidney scan and all was well.
I think that there is a definite connection. Still feel achy round neck and back. Still feel like I'm running on empty!

CatAlice · 17/09/2021 16:30

I'd forgotten this but I did have pain around the kidneys and when I was in hospital I was convinced there was something wrong with my bladder as it hurt and I needed to go every half hour. They tested and said there was no infection. That particular symptom cleared up after a couple of weeks.
TBH nothing now surprises me about what covid does to people.

JS87 · 17/09/2021 17:04

I’m in my forties and had my first ever uti a few weeks after my first covid jab. Maybe it wasn’t coincidental then.

PurplePumpkinDream · 17/09/2021 17:50

How do you get an antibodies test if you are not in any trials? Do they sell it in the chemist/on line? I’m finally back to normal after about 4 weeks, thanks for reassuring me when I thought I should have been OK in 10 days! Glad some of the others are back to normal too.

Piggywaspushed · 17/09/2021 17:52

I think Lloyds Chemist sells them online.
