Hi, what would be your opinion if your teenager didn't want to have the covid vaccine ??

I have a really stubborn teenager who doesn't want to go and have the vaccine. Would you tell your child to have the vaccine if they didn't want it ?

No I wouldn’t. It would be completely their choice as it should always be.

I hope the staff there would see her distress that you have forced her, and refuse to give her he vaccine. All you are doing in setting her up for more phobia misery years on.
If you want her to have the vaccine, you need to build up her confidence.

Well yes I'm doing all I can to help her with her fears now and it hasn't been approved for over 12s yet alone 11 year olds so its a moot point but I wasn't planning on marching her in and holding her down. There is a middle way between that and just saying no don't have it if you're scared.

This is your child's choice as long as they are very educated on the pros and cons then it will be up to them to decide and understand the reppussions of having and not having it.

I wouldn’t force anyone to have
Everyone’s personal choice
In our family group of 12 no one has had it

We hold children and babies down for vaccines all the time, otherwise no pressure school vaccines would be given

Pre school not pressure school ffs

Babies and small children very different to teens and pre-teens though.

This is true. However, if a needle phobia was getting in the way of my child making a rational decision, I’d want to over rule then the same as I would for other important medical treatment. I appreciate that other parents might feel differently. I wouldn’t want to hold them down and wouldn’t do so lightly but the covid jab is important and worth it IMO.

@GeorgeAnneAndTimmytoo shouldn't your ds be falling the example of the Pope? I didn't know you were allowed to say the Pope was immoral, which is basically what you're saying if you think the vaccine is unacceptable (due to foetal testing I presume) when the Pope himself has said getting it is an act of love!

Popitdontstopit · 29/08/2021 00:47

Mine has said he doesn't want it (not on offer to him yet though, this isn't the end of the matter) because he doesn't like needles. No sense of long term gain. In fact if I offered him the day of school for it he'd jump at the chance. Young teens do not always look at long term consequences when making their choices.
