the need for other family members to isolate has been removed. In this scenario, would you be sending your children back to school next week? Although it's allowed under the rules, it doesn't seem right?! Surely it's going to spread like wildfire, but I guess that's what the govt is going for now?

Interested to see if anyone will be keeping their DC at home if only parent(s) are infected.

I couldn't find any guidelines on that, I guess if they're double jabbed it's fine. I told our builder though and he chose to push the work back rather than be in the house with positive cases.
@lulu1919 - you go in to work. You go in as all the other teaching staff, hospital staff, supermarket staff, care home and restaurant staff will with a positive case at home.

We all know its a shit idea, but as they don't have to pay you if you dont go in when your family member has covid, you and all other people with jobs that can't be done from home, will go into work and probably spread it.

Do not feel a moment of guilt about this, you have no choice.
It's rubbish isn't it ...
I worked all through the lockdown with vulnerable and KW children ...even through holidays for no extra pay ...can't do my job from home !!!! 😊

Lulu1919 · 27/08/2021 20:08

@BluebellsGreenbells

I think if positive case in household we should still isolate ..but I know that's now not the rules...so I could help transmit to 100s of children and staff !!!

So I assume you’ll do LFT twice a week?

Can you be certain all parents will do the same for you?

I guess so but how reliable are they ?!? Not sure what the DfE are saying about LFT It's school hols Ive been in denial about going back ha ha ..not cos of covid....just usual end of summeritus
SilverGlitterBaubles · 27/08/2021 20:10

Honestly it's all such a mess Sad

VaccineSticker · 27/08/2021 20:14

Morally it’s wrong on so many different levels to go to work when one has a positive case in the house.
But- what can people do? Their employer will expect them to turn up to work so they have no choice.
This is seriously messed up!

swimmingdory · 27/08/2021 20:27

My son tested positive last week. All 7 of us are now positive, me first 3 days later and the rest up to 7 days after. Crazy that there is no need to isolate for close contact.

CampaignToo · 27/08/2021 20:27

You're over simplifying though. It's not only that I don't have to isolate.

If family member tests positive, I (as double vaccinated) will arrange a PCR test, as per guidelines. If the test is negative, I don't have Covid, so don't need to isolate. You can't pass on something you don't have.

swimmingdory · 27/08/2021 20:28

Should add. Both grown ups double jabbed, 3 of the 7 are 6 years old. Caught on holiday, no close contact.

PreacherTeacher · 27/08/2021 20:29

@RubyJam I don't think that my situation is unique at all. My point was if someone in my household tests positive I will still have to be in school and could potentially infect my students before I either get symptoms or a LFT picks it up.

It just feels like a shit situation to be in and there is no real answer for. 🤷‍♀️

underneaththeash · 27/08/2021 20:31

No, they’re no way I’d send the children in if one of us is positive.

I’m also a (volunteer) brownie leader,I’ve made it clear that I will not allow girls in if the have a positive case in their household.

PreacherTeacher · 27/08/2021 20:39

Potentially you can be testing too early. Hence the former 10 day isolation period due to the range of incubation periods.

Say my DH has a positive result on Saturday from a Friday test, I have a PCR test Sunday. It can come back clear because of the incubation period. There is not enough viral load being shed yet.

This also worries me. Just because an early PCR test comes back negative you can go about your business as usual, until you realise oh shit I do have it and I've been around 100s of secondary school unvaccinated children that will be taking it home. I'm not too worried about getting it myself it more the passing it on. Believe it or not teachers care about their students.

BogglesAndBots · 27/08/2021 20:53

I'm a pregnant primary school teacher, just entering my third trimester and not yet fully vaxxed.

Next week I'll be heading back in to a class of 5 year olds, where any one of them could have Covid in the household and we wouldn't even know about it. Potentially having morning cuddles in bed with a Covid positive parent and then straight into class 🤷‍♀️

Seems mad considering all summer I've been bombarded with headlines about the risks of Covid in later pregnancy as there's been a big drive to get pregnant women vaxxed.

If me or DH tested positive, I wouldn't want to send my own Y1 child into school and risk him passing it on to the adults or children in his class. Would that result in an unauthorised absence and potential fine though? Who knows!

ChocolateFace · 27/08/2021 20:55

Yes I would follow the rules exactly. Some of the rules have been so stupid for me- not allowed to walk around the block for exercise one day, but friendly whose teen tested positive the next day allowed to go to work and concerts. I had to be sneezed on by DC at work before I was offered the vaccine.

I've followed all the rules, even the daft ones, except meeting up on Christmas Day. I love my DM and in-laws too much to risk infecting them, and back then it was highly likely.

Hairyfairy01 · 27/08/2021 21:04

Bobblesandbots do you not have to work from home or anything from 28 weeks? I'm sure nurses etc do? Without PPE etc I would think you are at higher risk! I'm so sorry if that doesn't apply to you.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/08/2021 21:09

I’d send them in- honestly are we supposed to put lives on hold forever- will you still isolate in 5 years time because Covid isn’t going anywhere. We have no further protection than the vaccine, it is what it is now- the vulnerable need to isolate if needed and financially we need to support those but the rest of us have to crack on- imo.

BogglesAndBots · 27/08/2021 21:13

@Hairyfairy01 I don't think there's any automatic right or even guidance to that effect any more. My midwife suggested it was now a case of just crack on as normal.

The wording in the gov documents is about ensuring you can "adhere to any active National guidance on social distancing".....but now all restrictions have been lifted there is no active National guidance so that's moot.

Hairyfairy01 · 27/08/2021 21:18

Bogglesandbot I am so sorry. I genuinely didn't realise that even pregnant teachers 28 weeks plus, and not yet fully vaccinated, were expected to teach face to face. That is truly awful. I think I would be tempted to go off with stress or something until my maternity leave started. I'm not a teacher (thank god) but you seem so under protected : supported compared to the majority of NHS staff. And I say that as nhs staff.

ohthejoysoftoddler · 27/08/2021 21:19

I tested positive last week and sent both my kids into nursery after negative tests. My husband remained negative throughout and so was able to leave the house to take them.

mistermagpie · 27/08/2021 21:21

I had a positive lateral flow yesterday and still waiting on results of the PCR but it's very likely to be positive based on my symptoms.

I have three kids who all go to school/nursery and am very uncomfortable about sending them in (if they are negative obviously) but they are allowed to go and the school at least are expecting that. It feels weird but it's allowed so I suppose I'll do it, frankly because I can't really look after the kids while I'm ill and DH is working.

MrsMayFly · 27/08/2021 22:31

@Lulu1919

I'm a TA I think if positive case in household we should still isolate ..but I know that's now not the rules...so I could help transmit to 100s of children and staff !!! But if I don't go in I'll not be paid plus can't claim sick pay cos I won't be sick ... What to do !?!?
It seems like madness.

I'm a supply teacher, so sometimes visiting a few schools each week 😬

When Ds had Covid at the end of term, we didn't catch it, but I know many families where everyone got it in the end although sometimes it took until day 9/10...

worriedatthemoment · 27/08/2021 23:16

Will have a pcr and if negative continue to work etc , this is my works policy anyway and government recommend a pcr
Would then do lvt everyday know not perfect but better than nothing , would also isolate as much as practical from family member

TheSunnySide · 27/08/2021 23:17

I am currently isolating with Covid, my isolation ends 2 days before school starts. DS has no symptoms and refuses to do the test. Potentially he could get Covid from me at any point in the next 10 days but be asymptomatic.

I will send him in on the 6th if he is well. If he won't do an LFT then I just have to assume he is ok but, yes, I do think it is a risk and this is how schools will see pupils dropping like flies in the first few weeks of term.

Hellotoallmyfans · 27/08/2021 23:19

Yes, my ds is currently positive, the rest of us are negative. I'm going to test us all again the day before we return to school/work next week and whoever is negative will be carrying on as normal.

This is the way forward now - treat covid like any other illness.

Hellotoallmyfans · 27/08/2021 23:24

I’m also a (volunteer) brownie leader,I’ve made it clear that I will not allow girls in if the have a positive case in their household.

You do realise you have absolutely no authority to do that? Only the positive person needs to isolate, everyone else goes about their business. You have no right to make up your own rules. Most people will just stop testing now anyway for reasons like this.

You do realise around a third of people who have Covid are symptomless anyway so will potentially be spreading it around your brownie group unawares?

People need to get a grip now, seriously.

hellsbells99 · 27/08/2021 23:27

The manufacturing company my DD works for has said everyone should continue to work if they are a contact - whether they are vaccinated or not. They should do a pcr test and if negative then come in to work with lft tests daily for 10 days.
They have ignored close contact rules at work all the way through - so if a work colleague tests positive, they should ignore it and continue to work (although do daily lft tests for 10 days) as their safety rules mean ‘they cannot catch covid at work’
