CEV removed from children

Any one else had a communication today that their CEV child is no longer classified as CEV?.

So no longer going to get the correct access to vaccinations etc?

Just wondering if it is our GP who previously tried to block our CEV child's vaccination or if it is everyone?

@bumbleymummy

Maybe increasing data showed that certain conditions that originally classed them as CEV don’t actually put them at higher risk from the virus?
This seems likely but it must be so hard for the children and their families who’ve been through such a tough 18 months. :(

The evidence is that children are much less susceptible than first thought so the vast majority flagged as CEV initially are not actually CEV. Age is the biggest risk factor. However, if your child is one of those flagged by JCVI as being eligible for vaccination they are at increased risk and should be offered vaccination. ‘CEV’ was never a criteria for child vaccines, just the conditions listed.

We have been fighting to get our 15 yr old vacinated ( hydrocephalus, autismin unsafe swallow lung damage ,severe learning disabilities etc ,). Thankfully they rang this morning to book it this afternoon. But he has never been on shielding list unlike our 7 yr old who has been taken off it as of today. So relieved he is getting it to be honest but still cant quite believe our younger one is not at increased risk if he gets it as he has much more complex needs and relies on a bipap machine and oxygen when asleep and has all sorts of other issues going on . A normal infection is life threatening as it is !
I hear what they are saying but it wont compute in my brain !

@flapjackfairy I’m sure I would feel exactly the same as you, there should be a bit of leeway with the really complex needs for clinician assessment. Does the shielding letter have much of an advantage, as presumably you have to be very careful all of the time. Is it mainly the issue of vaccination?

Coming back to say what a colossal waste of GP and consultant time to have to review and assess these medical records of unwell children aged 12-15 years when in the rest of Europe and US, plus other places, all 12-15 year olds can just turn up and get vaccinated whether or not they are at risk.
And what a load of unnecessary stress and anguish for the parents and DC.
Why is the UK either unable to source the same levels of vaccines as the rest of Europe or the US and/or why is the UK government so anti-vaxx when it comes to children?
And why are some GPs (not all) so intent on making sure no-one gets the vaccine except if they meet the very highest and strictest criteria, as evidenced with the CV group 6 adults and then the 16-17 year olds when they had to be medically vulnerable, and now again with 12-15 year olds.
It is contrary to the 'do no harm' and expected patient-first attitude we expect of the medical profession.

Totally bizarre, surreal and dystopian to be the UK when we look at what is happening with regard to vaccines in the US and Europe.

A little island restricting vaccine access and/or having pissed off enough of the world that we cannot source enough vaccines (e.g. Pfizer coming from the EU) and/or simple incompetence.

Any of the above may apply, who knows?
