Close contact with friends who tested positive today

Hello hello!
I'm a bit confused - saw 3 friends yesterday. Outside in the park, then sat outside cafe.
2 of them tested C19 positive today. Just done a Lateral test which was negative but travelling to Manchester tomorrow to see relatives with my son age 9.
Should we test again tomorrow?
Would you just stay at home & self isolate?
Not sure what to do?

Think you still need to isolate. Have they given your details to test and trace? Although in England it changes from Monday if you're fully vaccinated

Lakeshore6 · 13/08/2021 22:50

Definitely test again tomorrow. I know how I caught it, and it didn’t show up until 48 hours later - it can take longer too

ToomuchHeat · 13/08/2021 22:51

How irresponsible of them meeting you knowing they had taken a PCR test!

I would isolate

PurpleDaisies · 13/08/2021 22:54

I would look at the definition of a close contact and see if you fit it. If you do, I wouldn’t be visiting relatives if they’re vulnerable or not double jabbed. Technically you don’t have to unless you’re contacted by test and trace but I wouldn’t wait if there’s a greater risk for those people.

Be super careful with social distancing and who you’re meeting.

My friend was positive and passed it on to another friend from taking a 30 minute distanced walk with her in a park. It can definitely spread outdoors. I would isolate.

iloveredpandas · 13/08/2021 23:57

If you saw the yesterday and they got positive tests today then they must have had symptoms or done the test on the day they say you Hmm

Biglioness · 13/08/2021 23:59

Thanks all. Really helpful. @ToomuchHeat they did a Lateral F test today - we hung out yesterday. One of them only developed symptoms today so they did the test to check.

So, if we continue to test negative, we don't have to isolate from Monday because I'm double jabbed? My son obvs isn't though...
Obviously if we're positive it's ten days @ home then.

If they haven’t had pcrs then technically you don’t have to isolate but I’m your shoes I’d be wary of seeing relatives and probably lay low until Monday Under 18s also exempt from SI from monday so that includes your son
Biglioness · 14/08/2021 00:20

Thanks @Frazzled2207 - so helpful 🥰

@WindyWindsor this is highly unlikely and your friend doesn’t know for sure that’s how she caught it.

Overthebow · 14/08/2021 07:32

You have to self isolate for 10 days, as it’s before the 16th you both still need to isolate, the new rules don’t cut it short (although how many actually stick to that stupid rule is another matter!)

ifonly4 · 14/08/2021 07:41

If you were sat within 2m, then I'd certainly be doing the right thing and isolating. Even though you were outside, you were together a reasonable amount of time with not just with one positive person. Ideally you'll get a PCR test. I really wouldn't risk passing Covid to my loved ones, but if you're still going, then at least phone them and let the know the position.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/08/2021 07:42

I've read the new rules do cut it short..seen it in a few places so assume its right unless all wrong.

Caliexpidocioussuper · 14/08/2021 07:44

The new rules do cut it short. Someone posted the actual officially written new law on here the other day.

FloFlower · 14/08/2021 07:50

My workplace have told us that even if we are self isolating now, we can leave it early when the new rules come into force.

PeonyTime · 14/08/2021 07:55

Read the background info at the bottom of this government press release @Overthebow. Isolation ends for all double vaccinated at least 14 days ago and under 18s on Monday.

Biglioness I dont think I'd be travelling far to meet people for the next week. We were probably responsible for passing covid onto a family we visited before DS was told to isolate. I still feel guilty for it. But if test and trace haven't contacted you, or you going after the weekend, there is no legal requirement to stay away. It just depends on if you feel its sensible given the planned activities.

Primrosejoy · 14/08/2021 08:14

One thing to be sure to do is run it past the family you are due to be visiting. I'd personally say I'd rather you didn't visit.

RuthW · 14/08/2021 08:37

Lateral flow usually show up between day 3-5. You need to do a PCN test and isolate it

Sorry, no idea where the it came from
ttcsucks · 14/08/2021 09:10

As the rule changes on Monday if you've been double jabbed OP and take negative PCR I personally wouldn't isolate

rainbowunicorn · 14/08/2021 11:08

This is incorrect information. The correct information can be found on the government website. www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-removed-for-double-jabbed-close-contacts-from-16-august

@dementedpixie

But that's only for contacts from Monday. If your isolation starts before Monday (i.e. today for OP) it still needs to be the full length. Bizarre, but there we go.
DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 14/08/2021 11:24

How are you doing, OP?

What a bummer ☹️

dementedpixie · 14/08/2021 11:27

@LindaEllen no they don't need to continue an existing isolation. They can cut it short when the guidance changes

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/08/2021 11:28

@LindaEllen includes ones before the 16th as well.
