I’m 33 and I have a high BMI. Other than that I have no other health conditions.

Recently had a full set of bloods & a private medical check including my vitamin levels checked, and all was okay.

I’m fully vaccinated and I really want to book a holiday to the Canary Islands.

Obviously this will include sitting on a flight for nearly 4 hours which I know may put me at risk of Covid.

I’ve had an Invitation to a christening in a few
weeks (all indoors) and my mum wants us to go to the theatre, to see Heathers.

All of these things I would do without a second thought prior to Covid.

How cautious should I be because of my BMI?
It’s 40.1…

Ps - I have already reduced my BMI from 44 and am continuing to reduce, no fat shaming please :)

I'm still very cautious, defo would not go on a plane (exact BMI you are). We have our wedding very very soon and am externally scared about mixing for that.

theycallmeuser · 13/08/2021 16:23

@squiddybear

Is it your BMI that prompts to you to be as cautious as you are?

Congratulations on your wedding. Flowers

I'm a bit higher than you are but double jabbed so we are back to normal now. I went to the theatre last week!

Dandy008 · 13/08/2021 16:28

The fat shamers will certainly be along to the party very soon… 😵‍💫

BMI 35 trying to be careful, choosing outdoors where possible etc.

fat13 · 13/08/2021 16:32

Hmm I had a BMI of over 40 until last year but I wasn’t bothered tbh … maybe I’m unusual!

NeverTalkToStrangers · 13/08/2021 16:36

A quick play around with Q Covid puts you at the same level of risk as a 36 year old man or a 40 year old women of optimal weight. Speaking as a 50 year old woman with a BMI of 25ish, so at much higher risk than you, I’d have no problem doing any of those things.

I was BMI 35, now I'm 33. I've been on a coach (everyone had to wear masks), been in hotels and restaurants and stately homes. Most of the places I like to go still ask you to wear masks. I wear masks in shops etc to be courteous to others and because caution can't harm me. I do glare 😕 at people in shops not wearing masks but it's more that I feel like they are being rude rather than I'm worried about my health. I fully accept, though, they don't have to wear masks and at some point I will let my mask go too. If all masks exploded and there, were no more masks, I'd be ok going maskless.

Well done in lowering your BMI. 😁

@theycallmeuser

Thank you. ☺ I slipped that in nicely, didn't I? 😀 Had pizza AND pasta yesterday and pudding. I'm a suckered for p food. It's a constant battle. 🤕

notasillysausage · 13/08/2021 16:51

My bmi is 36, I’ve lost just over a stone and trying to keep on losing. I have carried on with my life though, I’m double vaccinated and feel nervous but wear a mask and use hand gel. I’m godmother at a christening in the next few weeks.
I try and proceed with things I can do while social distancing. Not sure I would get on a plane yet. Maybe next year when hopefully my bmi will be much closer to a healthy range.

Yep it is due to weight. I'm terrified of the risks it brings etc

AntiMaskersAreTwats · 13/08/2021 16:54

I have a BMI of 50 and fighting a losing battle getting it down. I’m still petrified I’ll die if I get it despite being double jabbed with Pfizer.

Flowerlane · 13/08/2021 17:06

Nothing changed for me through the pandemic, I was still working and have a high BMI.

Am working on getting the weight off, it’s going slowly 🙈

Boredmotherofone · 13/08/2021 17:10

Yep! I'm also disabled and CEV but back to normal now

Boredmotherofone · 13/08/2021 17:11

Also double jabbed

CPDubs · 13/08/2021 17:48

I’m nearly 22 weeks pregnant, double jabbed and my bmi was 40 a while ago (I’ve put on maybe a stone since then?). I’ve been back to normal for a while now, heading off to a weekend festival at the end of the month 😃

BMI of 33 here.

Nothing much changed for me tbh - I worked in social care throughout with vulnerable young people in a PPE exempt work place, had an extended household from the start and have 2 children in school but all been fine.

Double vaxx'd since April and follow guidelines on masks/social distancing when out and about.

Backofbeyond50 · 13/08/2021 18:36

My BMI is hovering just under 40 despite my best efforts. I also have an ECV DH but we are fully vaccinated. Obviously not rushing to the theatre or anything but living pretty normally. Off on family holiday etc etc

LionGiraffe · 13/08/2021 20:12

I have a BMI of 39, despite having recently lost 3 stones after hiring a personal trainer. I’m double vaccinated and pretty much back to normal - the odds, even unvaccinated, are overwhelmingly in my favour. Whilst it has prompted me to address my weight (not just for covid reasons), I’m not particularly concerned about getting it.

whatswithtodaytoday · 13/08/2021 20:18

BMI 36, age 39 and still being careful, but doing a bit more than I was It's only now I'm vaccinated I feel less anxious and have done brain space to address my weight - hoping to be back to my 'usual' BMI 30 by Christmas.

Tbh I think it's inevitable I'll get it soon anyway with a child, but I don't think I'll be going on a plane any time soon. I have to do a half hour train journey in 6 weeks and am really quite scared about that.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/08/2021 21:27

Been back to normal since last September. It's how I have a roof over my head, after all.

EssexLioness · 13/08/2021 21:40

Was a BMI of 34 at the beginning of the pandemic and now BMI is 26. I haven’t really avoided real life throughout, although we don’t go out socially that often normally anyway. Followed all lockdown rules but happy going about my business now. Been double jabbed.
My SIL is morbidly obese. Not sure of her exact BMI but it is far higher than 40. She was a bit nervous at the beginning of the first lockdown but has gradually relaxed. She has worked throughout and been out to restaurants, shopping centres etc since restrictions eased. They aren’t going abroad on holiday this year but this is more to do with the risk of getting stuck abroad or being put in quarantine on their return.
Well done on your weight loss OP!

Earlydancing · 13/08/2021 23:38

My goodness @EssexLioness, that is fantastic to be practically a normal BMI. Well done.

I love all these inspiring stories (not the point of the thread, I know). It encourages me to do better. Thank you all. 👏

Lemons1571 · 13/08/2021 23:46

BMI 40 at the start of this. Now BMI 22. Lost the weight as a bit of a race against catching the virus. 4 others in the household who work in education/go to school, and I could see with the governments appalling mismanagement of covid in schools that we were sitting ducks.

Finally had covid on the house when I was BMI 24 or so, double jabbed, and didn’t catch it.
