Are they looking into vaccinating young children?

Like babies, toddlers, kids and adolescents?

Surely if this went ahead they could give the vaccines out in schools to speed it up?

@BillieSpain

It's not "trial vaccine"

What do you mean there are "no proper trials done on this?" For children or for anyone? The vaccines have involved some of the largest trials in vaccine development, and regarding children, were only rolled out in other countries when appropriate trials had been conducted in the same way they would be for other vaccines.

It's a choice but no need to imply they haven't been rigorously tested. That's good your own menstrual hasn't ever been impacted by a virus, but it is an established effect of infection, and has been reported specifically for COVID. And as I said above, changes to menstruation do not equate to changes or harm to someone's fertility.

It's my opinion and answer to the OP[s question

It certainly has not been looked into enough IMO Smile

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but saying "there are no proper trials done" on the coronavirus vaccines isn't in any way true..
BillieSpain · 13/08/2021 18:36

On how it effects fertility in children.

I will leave you to your opinion and you leave me to mine. Thank you.

Backofbeyond50 · 13/08/2021 19:00

I really am not sure about vaccinating my children tbh. Will have to fo more research.

whatswithtodaytoday · 13/08/2021 20:27

Once it's been through the trials I would be happy for my two year old to have it. I'm pretty sure he'll have it by the time he goes to school, given the way trials are going.

My periods are often affected when I'm ill. Your uterus is part of the body's immune response, which makes sense as the body wouldn't want to get pregnant while ill.

Ostagazuzulum · 13/08/2021 20:33

My 9 year old it last year at peak, despite us being really careful. Both me and dh are frontline workers though. She had bad headache that came on suddenly then fever and then coughing. 111 told us to take her to a&e at one point as she was lethargic and floppy. They confirmed it was Covid ans sent us hone and has to wake her up every couple of hours for a response. It went on about a week. Worst week ever and then she had irritating cough for about 5 weeks. She was super fit and sporty. Eats reasonably well. However she was amazing through it, utter trooper and pretty cheerful all things considering. Afterwards she was convinced she was super human as she'd beat the pandemic!!! It was awful at time but somehow reassured me it's beatable. Kids can get it but are better fighting it off I believe

Getawaywithit · 13/08/2021 20:41

I wouldn't want my 8 year old to have it

So no child should have it? Some of us think differently, particularly those of us with clinically vulnerable children. You don’t have to have your child vaccinated but that doesn’t mean those of us who would like it shouldn’t be able to make that choice for our children.

Please point me to where I said no child should have it?
Wellbythebloodyhell · 13/08/2021 21:45

The pressure to vaxx if you are an unvaxxed adult is enormous and heavy. I would be in bits if this translated to my kids

This 1000%! The pressure to vaccinate my DC scares me far more than covid does.

BillieSpain · 13/08/2021 21:59

Yes, you can see it on this thread... people giving THEIR opinion and being challenged as if it were a Universal fact.

Pathetic.

People should be allowed to make their own bloody choices ESPECIALLY when it comes to their own DC's

JaninaDuszejko · 13/08/2021 22:33

There are currently four vaccines approved, two mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) and two DNA (AstraZeneca and Jansen). There will be more traditional types of vaccines approved eventually: protein subunit and attenuated virus. I would assume those who are not enthusiastic about new vaccine technologies being used on their children will be happier using established vaccine technologies? I can't see us as a country never vaccinating children, as we gather more data on the severity of long Covid and the spread of Covid by children vs the side effects of the vaccines we are likely to find a vaccine where the balance of probabilities is in favour of vaccinating children.

FoodieToo · 13/08/2021 22:43

We are in Dublin . My 13 and 14 year old will be vaccinated tomorrow ! Thrilled .

MissCruellaDeVil · 13/08/2021 22:46

I would want my DC to have it, we have already seen how fast covid spreads around schools (including primary and nurseries) we already vaccinate them for the flu etc to protect the elderly, this can be the same, children are super spreaders.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 13/08/2021 22:56

That's great that any child who wants to be vaccinated can be, no qualms with that whatsoever, but, I hope societal pressure does not take over like it has done with adults and families are able to make their own choices without the underlying coercion we are seeing in adults

wondersun · 13/08/2021 23:44

Yes, think only a matter of time before all children are offered it.

Personally I can’t wait for my kids to be protected. Just been watching a bbc video from America about the increased adverse affects on kids. Where else will the virus go if only kids unvaccinated? What other virus do we only vaccinate 12 and overs for?

Just a waiting game, they won’t be transparent because then everyone would quite rightly be asking about the complete lack of mitigations in schools.

There is this petition about mitigations in schools, I’ll pop it here in case anyone would like to sign it.

ilikecheesecake · 13/08/2021 23:48

the problem is if they allow children to have it although they will say it isn't mandatory and it is your choice whether you child has it or not they will take

ilikecheesecake · 13/08/2021 23:51

Sorry hadn't finished.
Will they take away freedoms from our children who haven't had it the same way that they are doing with adults and teenagers. it's likely so which is a very scary thought.

everythingthelighttouches · 14/08/2021 06:53

Yes.

Here is a very recent article about it in America. I expect we will follow but I don’t know when as I don’t think we have enough supply.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/619729/

I don’t want my primary age child to get Covid this autumn but it seems inevitable.

It is a tiny risk but we go out of our way to avoid tiny risks with children all the time, it is a risk I’d rather not take. I would go for the many times tinier risk of a vaccination for him if MHRA and JVCI supported it.

You know that the government takes no interest in these petitions at all.

wondersun · 14/08/2021 08:55

They take notice when people start to vote differently and look sufficiently discontented to put their seats at risk, ie if it gets to the press etc.

I do know exactly what you mean though.

People voting with their feet would concern the gov too.

They are in phase three trials until 2023

What do you think we're all taking part in then?

They are in phase three trials until 2023

It amazes me that the majority of people I talk to don't know this or ignore this fact to the point of choosing not to know. We are all part of an ongoing trial.

My 15 year old is having hers next week due to her sister having a health condition
