Is Pfizer less of a clot risk than AZ?

AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 17:06

I’m looking for some answers but too scared to go down the rabbit hole

Also
what are the chances of surviving a brain clot?
Finally does AZ cause low platelets or you already have low platelets therefore there is a risk of blood clots?

Thank you in advance

Hi OP, I haven’t rtft so sorry if this is repetition. There was a lot of discussion (3 threads worth) on here a while ago by people nervous about AZ due to the VITT risk - including me.

In summary:

 • Risk of VITT (the more dangerous brain etc clots) is higher with AZ than with pfizer
 • you can find the rates in the yellow card reports. From memory it’s something like 1 in 100,000 for first dose and 1 in a million (or less) for second dose.
 • yes you can get Pfizer, fine a walk in!

If it helps your decision I’ve heard anecdotally that people who’ve had Pfizer are less likely to need a booster than those who’ve had AZ as it’s a bit more effective again Delta.

Any vaccine is less of a clot risk than catching Covid, but Pfizer is lower than AZ.

AnswerPlease1 · 12/08/2021 08:30

Pfizer has more allergy reaction causing ingredients- am I correct?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 12/08/2021 08:37

But are you usually allergic to anything?

AnswerPlease1 · 12/08/2021 08:43

Food - no
I’m not in regular medication - but not been allergic to anything so far

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 12/08/2021 08:51

Why do you suddenly think you'd become allergic to the vaccine then?

dementedpixie · 12/08/2021 08:51

Being allergic to it wasn't on my radar as I don't have any current allergies

AnswerPlease1 · 12/08/2021 09:01

@dementedpixie it’s my anxiety speaking- I feel ill go into an anaphylactic shock

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 12/08/2021 09:03

Nothing we can say can help then
We can't change the way you feel
I very much doubt you will suddenly become allergic to the point of anaphylactic shock when you've had no signs of reactions before

PurpleDaisies · 12/08/2021 09:06

I agree with demented. No one on this thread will be able to help.

You need real life support with your anxiety. Your gp would be a good bet.

@AnswerPlease1

Pfizer has more allergy reaction causing ingredients- am I correct?
Pfizer and Moderna use a specific ingredient Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) that some people are allergic to. Many of those people should know this from having eaten food or used cosmetics and then getting a reaction to it. If you haven't had that reaction then you needn't worry about it. Astrazeneca uses polysorbate 80, again you should know if you have an allergy due to its use in food, vitamins etc.

That's not how allergies work. If you are anxious then you may have a panic attack. Your anxiety is not able to cause an allergic reaction.

AnswerPlease1 · 12/08/2021 09:41

@PurpleDaisies I spoke to the gp- two intact. They were not much help. Both said park the vaccination and go on therapy

But I’m scared that I’ll catch Covid and the longer I leave this the bigger it’s becoming

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 12/08/2021 09:47

Two GPS would not independently tell you not to get vaccinated unless they had serious concerns about how you would cope with it.

Slayduggee · 12/08/2021 09:49

I’m 40 and I had Moderna. It’s just what they had on the day I turned up. I had a sore arm after.

If you google NHS vaccination walk in centre it should give you a list of vaccination centres and what vaccines they have.

My understanding is that they risk of anaphylactic shock is if you have a severe allergy already.

AnswerPlease1 · 12/08/2021 09:50

@mrex is it the same as listed below from a foundation I use?

Ingredients: Water\Aqua\Eau, Cyclopentasiloxane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Amodimethicone/Silsesquioxane Copolymer, Laureth-7, Dipropylene Glycol, Dimethicone/Peg-10/15 Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Peg-10 Crosspolymer, Peg/Ppg-18/

@PurpleDaisies it was over the phone but I was very ready and jittery - so they said park it for now

OP posts:
MRex · 12/08/2021 09:55

Yes, it is. If that's your regular foundation then you are not allergic to polyethylene glycol, so you would not get anaphylaxis from Pfizer nor Moderna.

PurpleDaisies · 12/08/2021 10:13
@PurpleDaisies it was over the phone but I was very ready and jittery - so they said park it for now
Ok, if you want to be really picky about it, you’ve had two phone consultations with two different doctors who have both told you they think your mental health isn’t good enough to cope with being vaccinated right now. That is not something a doctor says lightly. They are used to dealing with regular levels of vaccine anxiety and supporting people through that to get vaccinated. You have been told not to go for it right now. They must be very concerned about you.

You need real life with this.

AnswerPlease1 · 12/08/2021 10:55

@PurpleDaisies no not being picky - just explains that it was a phone consultation

OP, are you currently on anxiety medication? It sounds like this may help.
